Bernie's pre season was totally disrupted, hasn't hurt him.

The difference is Bernie had the talent to make it as a top level AFL player, Col didn't...

Can't really see the point in continuing to bring up Colin on this forum.

Let it be, whatever it is.

Everyone knows he was a wasted talent so nothing more needs to be said.

Colin who?

Bernie's pre season was totally disrupted, hasn't hurt him.

col had the talent, he didn't have the application required to get the best out of himself

Nup, blinded by the perceived talent 'deflog'.

I think he got close to the best from himself, he might have eked out a little bit more with better application but not a lot.

we will just agree to disagree, because I see it differently than you

Im glad that it is just a rumour.

Like Trav and Liam, Col was interesting to watch. Ill always go with "His breakout season was stuffed because he got his jaw broken pre-season".

Im not asking for holes in my mantra to be pointed out, BTW.

Bernie is the player we all hoped Slyvia would become, but never did. One of the best trade results to ever transpire.

Was mentioned on Footy Classified as one of the absolute great trades in one of those 'the less said the better' moments.

While the deal in the end was Vince for Sylvia we infact gave up pick 23 for Vince.

The Crows picked Matt Crouch with pick 23 who from 6 games this year is ave 18 disposals.

Compare that to Brayshaws 15.

Vince is what we needed at the time but we did give up a 10-12 year A-B grade midfielder for him.

col was as good as he was, looked like a player ,we expected more, but he never had the ability, just the looks of a good player he was a NQR.By the way dont bag trav johnson he was absultley a champ for us

I see where you're coming from GT, but if we were to have kept the pick, would have we drafted Crouch with it?

Almost certainly would have taken Lewis Taylor. Would be nice to have Daniel McStay but I don't think it's possible to argue with any effect that trading for Vince was anything other than a masterstroke/best practice.

We would have taken Lewis Taylor. Fact is that if Salem been taken before our pick we would have taken Taylor hands down.

While Taylor will be a gun we needed Bernie Vince impact straight away. Put it this way we wouldn't have won on the weekend without Vince. At the time we needed midfield class and experience and thas what Bernie bring.

This alone tells you that Jason Taylor has an eye for serious talent. The fact that he rated him a top 10 pick and he lasted till 28 shows that either Salem or Taylor would have been a good pick,

Im calling it also but I think Jason Taylor will be the next Stephen Wells.

That's a bit contrived and if you go down that path, we did not give up a 10-12 year A-B grade midfielder for him.

We gave up pick 23, which could have been anyone and anything. I'm personally very happy with Vince, who is exactly the kind of player we needed - mature and hungry for the contest.

You've been a Dees supporter too long with "logic" like that mate.

A lot more risk with picking up a kid as opposed to Vince. We'd have to let him develop, we have to pick to right kid (no guarantee we'd pick Crouch), plus he wasn't what we needed at the time. We needed someone to be able to walk into the team with experience to give Jones another seasoned body around him.

The value of having Vince as someone to help with the development of Brayshaw, Petracca, Viney, ANB, Stretch etc is something you also have to consider.

I simply look at it as Sylvia for Vince, Crows got something good, we got something good, and Freo got a lemon.

  • REPORT: Western Bulldogs

The next coach of the Melbourne Football Club faces the challenge of teaching his players how to win games against all comers. At times during this tumultuous season, that task has seemed daunting, made more so in light of the surprise news last week of the sacking of premiership coach Simon Goodwin. However, there were also some positive signs from yesterday’s match against the Western Bulldogs that the challenge may not be as difficult as one might think. The two sides presented a genuine football spectacle, featuring pulsating competitive play with eight lead changes throughout the afternoon, in a display befitting a finals match. The result could have gone either way and in the end, it came down to which team could produce the most desperate of acts to provide a winning result. It was the Bulldogs who had their season on the line that won out by a six point margin that fitted the game and the effort of both sides.

  • CASEY: Brisbane

The rain had been falling heavily in south east Queensland when the match began at Springfield, west of Brisbane. The teams exchanged early goals and then the Casey Demons proceeded like a house on fire in the penultimate game of the VFL season against a strong opponent in the Brisbane Lions. Sparked by strong play around the ground by seasoned players in Charlie Spargo and Jack Billings, a strong effort from Bailey Laurie and promising work from youngsters in Kynan Brown and  Koltyn Tholstrup, the Demons with multiple goal kickers firing, raced to a 27 point lead late in the opening stanza. A highlight was a wonderful goal from Laurie who brilliantly sidestepped two opponents and kicked beautifully from 45 metres out.
