Pleaaaaaaaase. Crouch looks ok, but so did Jordan Gysberts and Cale Morton once. If he was the 10-12 year A-B grade midfielder that you're so certain he will become, then he would have played more than 6 games. Hyperbole. We wouldn't have selected him anyway.

Vince was a classic Paul Roos trade and I don't see any reason why he can't play until he's 32-33 if the injuries stay away. He started his career later than most and doesn't rely on pace or athleticism to dominate games.

In terms of what he brings to the side in terms of balance, experience, and a bit of spark around the place, Vince is irreplaceable, and the trade was a master stroke.

Watch how many times Jones/Vince exchange the ball - a midfield that stays together, plays together.

There's rarely an obvious player to pick at pick 23 though. The Crows would've had him in mind due to the fact he's Brad's younger brother too. Vince is a bargain in anyone's eyes, very talented player who was too young to pack up shop after the Crows tired of him

And, we have/had enough kids, we needed Bernie Vince to alleviate the pressure on those kids, not add another one for them to have no-one (bar Jones) to look up to.

Vince is not only highly effective, he has virtually invented a new role, that of the creative stopper, shutting down a key opposition player while being a playmaker and finisher himself.

Equally important I think, is his work as chief morale officer. Clubs need blokes like Bernie - always up beat, likeable and ready for a laugh.

Anyone can make themselves a dour professional if they try hard enough (think a former number one draft pick who absconded north), but professionals who also lift everyone up around them regardless of what else is happening are invaluable. That's how I see Bernie giving us some X factor.
