WELCOME TO THE MELBOURNE FOOTBALL CLUB - JAYDEN HUNT

Recommended Posts

Posted
Hunt is from Brighton Grammar. He played in the APS v AGS representative match. Hunt is a quick midfielder/half-back. He is a good kick both sides.

He has a light frame with plenty of development to build into a good size frame. He is good overhead and has a powerful, good leap.

Hunt was a gun junior with the likes of Josh Kelly and Christian Salem.

He had a growth spurt in last couple of years and is a big talent.

Quote from Melb website.

If you're gonna draft someone with a late pick, it's not a bad idea to draft a late developer. Upside etc.

Looks like an exciting type! tall midfielder that sounds a bit like Fyfe...

@jamesfrawley8 @jesseBhogan boys look out for the Brighton Grammarians ;)

Think we may have known early about this one.

I know a little about Jayden. Missed a year of footy in year 11 due to a back injury but returned this year and is seen as having significant upside having starred in APS all star type game. Smooth mover and smart bloke. Was captain of the school tennis team and mother was an athlete of reasonable note. Driven.

Six players drafted from Sandy Dragons and given Hunt was from BG you get the sense he would've been in their zone but not good enough to make the team in earlier years or start of this year. I read he had a big growth spurt so might have been considered too small at the start of the year and then played with a point to prove.

Apparently played in the alternative young talent (local leagues, ammo's etc) game that was held at the end of the year against other very decent prospects so I wonder how he went.

The athletic traits sound good for a rebounding flanker or outside midfielder so who knows. The draft sure gave way after pick 40 in terms of the big name prospects.

There you go. Tipped me as some kind of injury or alternative talent story that's obviously caught our recruiters eye. Better to get him now than when he dominates the VFL or TAC as an unlucky 19 year old then goes in the first round of the draft. Fingers crossed hey!

Was originally playing off a half forward flank, came back and was playing off half back before moving to the midfield. Made a relatively late decision to opt for the draft

Robert shaw is a brilliant coach of young footballers.

He is churning them out at BGS.

Must be something in the sea air for sure.

Somehow, Brighton Grammar didn't win the APS premiership, despite having three draftees (2 - Kelly, 9 - Salem, and Hunt) two more who played for Vic Metro U18 (Le Grice and Hayes) and another who played in the Vic U16 team a couple of years ago. That's six guns, and they were all playing the majority of matches.

Shaw:

- very small in years 7-9

- talented, played as a small forward

- grew a foot in year 10-11

- moved to half back and was a revelation - played him in the under 23's Young Guns game

- coordination and dexterity - captain of Tennis

- ran 11.01 in APS sports for 100m sprint, likes to run and carry

- light on, not much work with weights or running laps.

- considers it a clever selection (compared him to Paul Seedsman)

They booted him off to take more feedback.

Finey on SEN currently absolutely singing his praises.

Claiming him as the steal of the draft.

Said he watched a game he played in that had Kelly and Salem in it and said Hunt was BOG by an absolute mile.

Shaw currently on singing his praises too.

Dare I say we may have drafted well again!

Exactly right. More excited about Hunt's development than Salems.

UP IN LIGHTS by Whispering Jack

Those who watched the 2024 Marsh AFL National Championships closely this year would not be particularly surprised that Melbourne selected Victoria Country pair Harvey Langford and Xavier Lindsay on the first night of the AFL National Draft. The two left-footed midfielders are as different as chalk and cheese but they had similar impacts in their Coates Talent League teams and in the National Championships in 2024. Their interstate side was edged out at the very end of the tournament for tea
