Kim Duthie would make a good coach. At least the players would follow her lead.

Wow. I cannot believe this. I heard the IV this morning!!

Oh well it is the Aints. They are more amateur than us. (The old MFC that is!! :))

This really annoys me. Watters goes on a radio program with the clear and full agreement of club officials, and while he is there, all the strings are pulled together behind his back to form the rope to then hang the poor bugger!!! Absolute disgrace. And a reminder to Chris Pelchen - you are employed to work with the club UNDER the authority of the senior coach, not as an equal point of reference. I hate the AFL at times like this. I know it is a "fully professional environment" but so are the places most of us work at. If you are going to sack someone, have the guts to look them in the eye and tell them clearly and kindly what those reasons are.

The Saints leadership culture = horrible

The Saints coaching choices and development = horrible

Board-Coach relationships = horrible (think of Blight, Thomas, now Watters)

Interesting that another Pies coach is sacked with a horrible winning percentage. Perhaps the best thing the Pies did was to move Malthouse on.

But there is good news for us. Brisbane, Essendon and the Saints look all set for a season of [censored] and the spotlight is off the Dees.

I'm reminded of the old saw that in order to stab someone in the back it is first necessary to get behind them.

So Mark Williams will be coaching again?

The Saints are poorly run aren't they...

November firing of a coach.

How often would that have happened?

Conversely, if we perform poorly against those clubs (particularly the Saints in round 1), the blowtorch pointed at the MFC's belly will be turned up a few notches.

Unbelievable.

Even more so given the comments he made this morning on radio. This. Morning.

"St Kilda coach Scott Watters has maintained that there was "massive upside" and "a very optimistic feel" about the Saints team he was leading despite reports that the club's football department was fractured, with substantial conflict between Watters and football chief Chris Pelchen."

"Speaking on Radio SEN on Friday, Watters said suggestions that his relationship with Pelchen was strained were "almost laughable".

"Chris and I are absolutely perfectly aligned from a list-management point of view and that really was from day one," Watters said.

That is deadset incredible that he would be allowed to go on radio and essentially make an arse of himself.

If that's really how it played out then I agree that it's a disgrace, but I'd be amazed if that's the case. More likely that the Watters interview was unauthorized by the club and he instead made himself look like a goose.

Still, it's an amazing time to pull the rug out from under the coach. They're about to start preparing for the bloody season, now they're doing it without a senior coach. Unbelievable.

You would be extremely happy if you are Longer, Savage and Co that have just moved there, I wonder if Wellar still wants to go to the Saints.

I assume this is sarcasm? Hard to tell on the internet...

Very strange time to fire a coach; I'd be very interested to hear the whole story.

Maybe this has all blown up AFTER he got off the radio.

Otherwise it is just Comedy Central.

Who would want to come in to coach this mob now, after trade month???

Laidley or Williams.

Laidley or Williams.

The door is still swinging from Laidley's departure from there, to join Mick at Carlton.

No its just StKilda WYL... pretty normal stuff really for these guys !!

They are saying on the AFL website that Watters didn't have permission from the club to go on air this morning. He told those in charge he did. Didn't it occur to him he may come out the other end looking like a complete goose?
I look forward to the presser this afternoon when we get the full story from St. Kilda's side.

More likely Watters knew things were in flux and thought going on the radio might boost his chances. But he didn't realize how close to his neck the axe already was. Also, that seems more likely than him going on the radio with 'permission'.

To be fair BB, there hasn't been too much insanity from the club in recent years. There was of course the St. Kilda school girl stuff and Milney but I think admin. handled those dramas as well as could be expected. When they sacked Thommo, it was miles better than this. It was done ruthlessly and efficiently without a great deal of fallout.

This seems to be a return to the St. Kilda of the '80's.

Surely you don't sack a coach in November, because he goes on the radio and is interviewed? Did he say anything untoward about the club? I'd say there are other things afoot here and Harvey might be coming home.

Who would want to be a coach? I found it hard enough with the juniors let alone afl. I like being able to sleep of a night time

Demonland Trackwatcher Gator ventured down the freeway to bring you his observations from Friday morning's Match Simulation out at Casey Fields. Rehab: Jake Lever and Charlie Spargo running laps.  Lever was running short distances at a fast click as well as having kick to kick with a trainer. He seems unimpeded. Christian Petracca, Kade Chandler, Shane McAdam and Tom Fullarton doing non-contact kicking and handball drills on the adjacent oval.  All moving freely at pace.  I didn’

THAT WAS THE YEAR THAT WAS: 2024

Whichever way you look at it, the Melbourne Football Club’s 2024 season can only be characterized as the year of its fall from grace. Whispering Jack looks back at the season from hell that was. After its 2021 benchmark premiership triumph, the men’s team still managed top four finishes in the next two seasons but straight sets finals losses consigned them to sixth place in both years. The big fall came in 2024 with a collapse into the bottom six and a 14th placing. At Casey, the 2022 VFL p
