Posting unsubstantiated rumours on this website is strictly forbidden.

Demonland has made the difficult decision to not permit this platform to be used to discuss & debate the off-field issues relating to the Melbourne Football Club including matters currently being litigated between the Club & former Board members, board elections, the issue of illicit drugs in footy, the culture at the club & the personal issues & allegations against some of our players & officials ...

We do not take these issues & this decision lightly & of course we believe that these serious matters affecting the club we love & are so passionate about are worthy of discussion & debate & I wish we could provide a place where these matters can be discussed in a civil & respectful manner.

However these discussions unfortunately invariably devolve into areas that may be defamatory, libelous, spread unsubstantiated rumours & can effect the mental health of those involved. Even discussion & debate of known facts or media reports can lead to finger pointing, blame & personal attacks.

The repercussion is that these discussions can open this website, it’s owners & it’s users to legal action & may result in this website being forced to shutdown.

Our moderating team are all volunteers & cannot moderate the forum 24/7 & as a consequence problematic content that contravenes our rules & standards may go unnoticed for some time before it can be removed.

We reserve the right to delete posts that offend against our above policy & indeed, to ban posters who are repeat offenders or who breach our code of conduct.

WE HAVE BUILT A FANTASTIC ONLINE COMMUNITY AT DEMONLAND OVER THE PAST 23 YEARS & WE WOULD LIKE TO CONTINUE TO BE ABLE TO DISCUSS THE CLUB WE LOVE & ARE SO PASSIONATE ABOUT.

Thank you for your continued support & understanding. Go Dees.

Cale Morton now joins Jordan Gysberts as ex Dees delisted after only 12 months at there 2nd clubs. What a waste of pick 4 in 2007 :-( This kid never recovered from the humiliation of running away from Brendan Lade. Never had the build or work ethic to succeed in AFL.

Look, I'm as big a Morton critic as anybody, probably more, but this is a terrible post.

-He was expected to go at pick 4, it wasn't a shock selection.

-He didn't "run away" from him despite what you may have seen on YouTube, he was actually following the play when he ran off.

-How would you know what his work ethic was like? Was always one of our best runners and I never saw him slack off at training once.

I hated watching him play for MFC, but at least don't make stuff up about a guy whose career has just finished.

His skills went from being elite at U/18 level to sub-par in the pressure cauldron of the AFL. He was soft and skinny and only had average pace.

Who would have thought after his first couple of years that he'd be on the football scrapheap by age 23. A sad story. All the best Cale.

Just the wrong choice....fooled by his dominance at U18 level, but never had the body or hardness for AFL.

Given his abject failure at the Eagles too, I guess he was just one of those skinny guys who will never bulk up enough for top level contact sport...or at least not until middle age.

As pointed out though, many "experts" had him down as a great pick at 4.

Diagree with all your points Stuie. 1. We chose this kid before Dangerfield and Rioli based on his Larke Medal effort. 2. He ran away from Lade, pure and simple, you can put any spin you want on it. 3. I watched the guy live for 5 years, he had the odd game where he ran & created space but fair dinkum , he never got involved enough or layed a tackle of any substance ever. None of that is made up champ, it is simply my opinion on what I observed. Anyway agree with most lets Move On. Brad Dalzeil anyone?

Oh, you're one of those amazing hindsight draft experts.... great... That's as good an attribute as your obvious habit of watching YouTube footy highlights rather than being at the actual game.

Terrible weak player, but at least get your facts right.

Correct. It is dead set unfair that this kid is branded as a squib over a bit of selective editing. He ran to position for the continuation of play. I clearly remember the commentator jokes at the time but they were followed by the appropriate qualifiers. This continued "run away" story is pure nonsense.

Edit. Nasher is a faster typist than me.

He didn't run away from Lade. Watch the subsequent 20 seconds that have been removed and you'll realise that it was selective editing to deliberately paint the wrong picture.

pretty sure he also went on to kick or set up a goal in that passage of play!

You can bag out his on-field performances as much as you want, but you're flat out wrong about point 2. He did not run away from Lade, you clearly haven't seen the whole footage and you are like the scores of other bitter MFC people who just like paying out on Cale.

As for his being drafted at 4, that was not a shock selection by any means, so you need to learn to get over it. Unlike the Cook or (arguably) Gysberts picks, there was clear form for picking Morton at 4. West Coast was tossing up between him and Masten at 3. Picking Morton at 4 was absolutely fair and was not a bad decision by our recruiting panel. We can chalk this one down to Morton simply not being able to get weight on his body; whether that's his fault or ours, we may never know.

It's insanely frustrating, isn't it?

I mean, it's not like there isn't enough material with which to have a go at him. But people just keep making stuff up to suit their pettiness.

Morton was always regarded as a likely top 2-5 selection, no doubt.

That said, we got it wrong and he was a crap pick. There's no other way around it. Just because the football world's consensus is a player will fall in a certain range doesn't mean that all recruiters follow suit, or follow the footy world's group think. A great recruiter may have said, nup, pass.

Just another crap pick. Hopefully we start getting some right.

He was a physically and mentally soft footballer, but this incident is not evidence of same.

And I'm with cbf on the pics.

It's Game Day and the Demons are once again headlining another blockbuster at the MCG to kick off the round of footy. MELBOURNE BUSINESS by The Oracle

In days of old, this week’s Thursday night AFL match up between the Demons and the Blues would be framed on the basis of the need to redress the fact that Carlton “stole” last year’s semi final away from Melbourne and with it, their hopes for the premiership.  A hot gospelling coach might point out to his charges that they were the better team on the night in all facets and that poor kicking for goal and a couple of lapses at the death cost them what was rightfully theirs. Moreover, now was

UNDER THE PUMP by KC from Casey

The Casey Demons have been left languishing near the bottom of the VFL table after suffering a 32-point defeat at the hands of stand alone club Williamstown at Casey Fields on Sunday. The Demons suffered a major setback before the game even started when AFL listed players Ben Brown, Marty Hore and Josh Schache were withdrawn from the selected side. Only Schache was confirmed as an injury replacement, the other two held over as possible injury replacements for Melbourne’s Thursday night fixt

THE MEANING OF FOOTY by Whispering Jack

Throughout history various philosophers have grappled with the meaning of life. Aristotle, Aquinas, Kant, Nietzsche, Schopenhauer and a multitude of authors of diverse religious texts all tried. As society became more complex, the question became attached to specific endeavours in life even including sporting pursuits where such questions arose among our game’s commentariat as, “what is the meaning of football”? Melbourne coach Simon Goodwin must be tired of dealing with such a dilemma but,
