2014 Fixture: Hopes and Expectations?

Redjacket

Recommended Posts

With the 2014 Fixture being released on the 31st of October, what are your hopes and expectations for the coming year of matches?

Will the AFL hand us a dream draw so that we have the best possible chance of successful year? Will we be given any Friday night games? How many interstate trips will we have to make? Do we still play a home interstate game? How many Sunday vs Saturday games will we play? What is your preference of playing days? Will we be shafted with more Sunday twilight games?

I know we don't have much of a leg to stand on in regards to making demands but what do you hope for and what do you expect will happen?

Hopes 14-15 games at the G very few at Etihad, No games sold. Only one excursion to qld, nsw, SA, and WA respectively. 2-3 friday nighters. No Sunday evening death games. Half a dozen Sat ARVO games ( like they used to f'n be ) . No games at Skilled

Expectations ? None of the above

Got a feeling we might be off to Perth in round 1.

Can't complain as we haven't travelled interstate in round 1 since 1998.

That would work for me

Hopes: never again at Doglands, or at least no home games there - Expectations: 2 home games at Doglands, against teams who play their home games there ie Saints, Dogs, Norf

Hopes: no more WA / SA / NSW / QLD games than Collingwood get - Expectations: >6 games at those venues

Hopes: bye after any Darwin game (and, showing my evenhandedness, any team who plays there should get the same relief) - Expectations: Norf or Saints at Doglands the following week

Hopes: no late Sunday games, especially at Doglands - Expectations: at least two

I just don't want to play at Geelong next year and have more Saturday than Sunday games. I'd also like some home games against other Vic clubs and not play on Easter Sunday, Mothers Day or Greek Easter (we copped the trifecta last year)!

Dr G I reckon that wish is batting "a Duck"

You are going to be very disappointed.

Remind me it is so long ago I have no memory of it.

Just watch the old games on you tube

You know, when the MFC had an AFL standard players list

Wait was You Tube around then?

Would love to play a home friday night opener against St. Kilda

Seeing as i'll be getting my membership renewed at christmas, this would be the number one game that would lure me.

Prepare to be disappointed - rumours I've read (mainly on BigFooty) reckon we're playing Freo in Perth round 1.

That would do the confidence wonders - Start the year in Perth against one this years grand finalists who are only going to get better

A traditional round 1 shellacking with a cherry on the top 25 possession, 5 goal breakout game by our Col

And I'm an optimist

From a selfish point of view I'd love us to have a couple of interstate games around Easter as I'll be overseas.

From a non selfish point of view, my one hope is that we don't play down in Geelong. But we will.

I seem to remember Roos had a very good record at Skilled against Geelong with the Swans. Perhaps one of it will rub off.

Fook it if it is Freo at Subi, it's Freo in Subi. We were all happy the last two years thinking Brissy & Port at the G and how did that turn out.

I was there in Round 1 98, we lost but were fairly good for most of the day, it was really hot and we just struggled on the big ground with the heat. We got better as the year went on and I seriously don't mind us getting a hard game first up in 2014 either. The list needs to learn to play against the best and the odd belting of mediocre sides in the last 7 years wont cut it anymore.

Todays Hun is saying there maybe no games at the G for the first two rounds of 2014 and with the Cricket World cup there in 2015 the same will apply.

Looks like a return to the past where we used to go to the first game in early April.

So Gear up for a min. of an interstate game in the first two weeks and a game at Geelong or the dome of death.

    WILDCARDS by KC from Casey

Casey’s season continued to drift into helplessness on Sunday when they lost another home game by a narrow margin, this time six points, in their Round 13 clash with North Melbourne’s VFL combination. The game was in stunning contrast to their last meeting at the same venue when Casey won the VFL Wildcard Match by 101 points. Back then, their standout players were Brodie Grundy and James Jordon who are starring in the AFL with ladder leaders, the Sydney Swans (it turned out to be their last

    LIFE SUPPORT by Whispering Jack

With Melbourne’s season hanging on a thread, Saturday night’s game against North Melbourne unfolded like a scene in a hospital emergency department.  The patient presented to the ward in a bad way. Doctors and nurses pumped life-saving medication into his body and, in the ensuing half hour, he responded with blood returning to his cheeks as he stirred back to life. After a slight relapse, the nurses pumped further medication into the bloodstream and the prognosis started looking good as the

GAMEDAY: Rd 15 vs North Melbourne

It's Game Day and it very well could be the last roll of the dice for the Demon's finals aspirations in 2024. A loss to the bottom side would be another embarrassing moment in a cursed year for the Dees whilst a win could be the spark they need to reignite the fire in the belly.

    THE HUNTER by The Oracle

Something struck me as I sat on the couch watching the tragedy of North Melbourne’s attempt to beat Collingwood unfold on Sunday afternoon at the MCG.    It was three quarter time, the scoreboard had the Pies on 12.7.79, a respectable 63.16% in terms of goal kicking ratio. Meanwhile, the Roos’ 18.2.110 was off the charts at 90.00% shooting accuracy. I was thinking at the same time of Melbourne’s final score only six days before, a woeful 6.15.51 or 28.57% against Collingwood’s 14.5.89

    FROZEN by Whispering Jack

Who would have thought?    Collingwood had a depleted side with several star players out injured, Max Gawn was in stellar form, Christian Petracca at the top of his game and Simon Goodwin was about to pull off a masterstroke in setting Alex Neal-Bullen onto him to do a fantastic job in subduing the Magpies' best player. Goody had his charges primed to respond robustly to the challenge of turning around their disappointing performance against Fremantle in Alice Springs. And if not that, t
