There are many different types of journalist in the world. Some report the facts as they see them and leave it up to the reader to interpret what's going on. Others write opinion pieces and it's clear most of the time where they stand on various issues. Others still will mix opinion with their reporting (eg the Caro type) which is something I dislike because their agenda takes over their reporting and often leads to misrepresentation about what's happening. Worse still are the journos who do often produce agenda based articles either to push their own barrows or at the behest of their mates. That's slimy reporting IMO.

I think the Denham's and the Barrett's are in the last category. They're very good at it though because they've caused a lot of discussion around here about their style and their reporting.

I once thought Denham occupied such a position with Melbourne as he always used to get scoops from the club. However, when the Stynes/McLardy /Schwab administration came into power he seemed to do a 360 degree turn and became hostile to the club. That hostility seems to have diminished somewhat since the changes to the club's administration earlier in the year.

I could be wrong but if his motivation was either a dislike of the people involved at the club or loyalty to mates then it doesn't say much for his credibility.

I once thought Denham occupied such a position with Melbourne as he always used to get scoops from the club. I second that idea. We've dominated the newspapers for the last 2 years with negativity, only being pushed out by the Bombers "whatever it takes" program. I'm quite happy for us to fly under the radar for a while.

As for Barretts opinion, that's all it is. An opinion by someone who I don't respect. At the end of the day most of us are pleased with what we've done, and we've got Roos leading the way for the next 2-3 years. Who cares what some [censored] "journalist" think.

Martin Flanagan. Has written extensively about the Demons, but is not a supporter, although he clearly has a great respect and affection for the club. He was indeed and enjoyed it very much I understand. He really likes the Dees, but even then could see the weaknesses.

The point of my last post was in response to WJ's question about finding a name of someone impartial to write the history of the MFC during the Cameron Schwab/Bailey/Neeld eras. Flanagan would be perfect.

I would say that if he did, he may become persona non grata with many at the MFC and indeed it may prevent him from doing similar stories at other clubs in the future. With a lot of journalism, connections and access are key. If Martin were to turn around and pot some of the jokers who used to work at our club and call them out by name (though there is a possibility he wouldn't and he hasn't in the past) and then were to approach another club for a story, they would be wary. Their thinking would be 'if he did that to Melbourne, why wouldn't he do it to us?'
