Colin Sylvia going ... going ... GONE!

Just on SEN.

From the mouth of Greg Denham.

Sylvia to definitely go Freo front runner Bummers are 2nd fav.

But definitely will not be at Dees

I am just the messenger

Were the Eagles mentioned at all?

If there's competition after his services, potentially the higher the contract. Freo must have some room to move for a large-ish offer having missed out on Clark and Cloke in recent times. Higher the contract, better the terms - perhaps a better compensation.

What did they achieve for us??

Well for starters we now have the worst midfield in the comp without these players (barring Rivers), and the last time they all played in our team we were half decent at least and capable of winning more than TWO GAMES for a season.

Seriously, the stupidity around here is pretty amazing sometimes...

Big loss - under valued player on here

Hope he is looking at a big contract (500,000) I want my compensation.

big bodied player who has refused to string consecutive worthy performances together throughout his career. Coaches aren't to blame, Viney proved that. Obviously offered a contract reflecting his true worth. I can't wait till he kicks 3 goals against weaker opposition and has 25 touches and people get on here and cry about another player mistreated. Col is a freeloader and as someone has already mentioned he has been part of the problem. Col, sodd off I won't miss you.

I bet you will be eating your words come round 1 next year.

Sylvia in a good midfield will be like the Moloney effect times 10.

I agree 100%. The media moneyball took on a life of its own and became a truth because it was stated so often. The recruitng last year was the best we have done for years. None of the duds we moved on got a game anywhere. Molloney was a loss as will Sylvia but if the player decides to walk then that is their call and there is only so much the club can do. Rodan and Byrnes were free ad cheap and were ot our worst performers and added critical seniority and leadership to the team. They allowed for the appropriate development of the youngsters at Casey without the need to play thyem in the AFL too early.

If we can get the same results this year as last I would be very happy.

Who is Molloney?

I think he is a good player but he just has nothing to play for.

Most of his career has been spent in the bottom 8. I think he would love playing in big games with midfield support.

It seems funny that Denham knows this when Col has not even spoken to Roos yet.....

It is his opinion.....It is not gospel.....

I am not saying he is not a part of the problem just saying that I think he is a big talent and that he will play very well at a decent club.

Although I thought he was pretty consistent through most of the year (dipped a bit at the end).

Actually this always tickles me...the notion of nothing to play for. its actually this that goes to the heart of Cols problem, his attitude. That he ( or indeed you summise ) he has nothing to play for suggest he is most definitely the wrong type of person to ever have.

THERE IS ALWAYS SOMETHING TO PLAY FOR

Ask the Vineys and the nuggets of this world , indeed this team, ask Garland , ask Trengove, Grimes, Clark Dawes the same question and be astounded by their response, that is after they get over the incredulity of the question.

There is pride. Pride in self, of the club and its jumper of the value your team mates instill in you. there is the accomplishment and satisfaction of adding to something, in building not just the participating.

even if these real values dont get yo there... I would like to think honouring a contract whereby someone is paying you a very large sum to perform to your ability might actually mean something.

but your'e probably right...Col couldnt find anything to play for.

hes a midfielder's a..... btw

Would be sad to see him go as he never achieved his full potential at Melbourne, but I don't think he's going to be what makes or breaks us next year.

And he also said Watts is going to Carltank.

This dude is very high on the [censored] meter.

Sorry to harp on an observation but as you note hes never achieved his potential, but you'll be sad to see him go ?

Wont you be better catered to by a player who will come in AND play to his potential .. wouldnt you rather that ? Seriously ..just asking

Would love to see how Col goes under Lyon, with his players needing to super disciplined. Lyon is the Colonel Kurtz of the AFL - Sylvia might be Captain Willard.

less Martin, more Charlie !!! ^_^

I don't mind him leaving for Freo, he has a chance to win a flag. If he leaves for Essendon I'll be staggered, what a poor choice that would be.

Regarding compo, I have said and rpfc has said, there are 6 bands:

1. After our 1st round (pick 3)

2. After the first round (pick 17)

3. After our 2nd round (pick 19)

4. After the second round (pick 33)

5. After our 3rd round (pick 35)

6. Not good enough to warrant compo

The above picks take into account Essendon and Adelaide draft suspensions but not other free agent compensation picks.

I think it's likely we will get band 2 or 3 compo which I would be happy with for sylvia.

I can't see us getting band 1, and with 4th band I'd be disappointed because while on a competition scale he may not be one of the elite, he is clearly one of our best players, one of our few senior players, and that should be a big part of the "compensation" process.

5th or 6th I'd be fuming and accusing the AFL of trying to kill us quickly.

Anyone claiming "late second or 3rd round as compo" doesn't understand the compo band process.

prediction...equiv of pick 34...depends on trades etc but on current basis of a known compo to Hawks and GWS activating a pick id put our compo at band 4

He wont be on a super contract at Freo..that arent that mad... He wants out at Melb I suspect .

He hasnt done that well in B+F to warrant a band 3

That my friends is all hes worth

He may well do great at Freo and to be honest I hope he does. May as well go out with a bang and play some finals footy.

It was just never going to happen at the Dee's. He was coasting far to much to ever get his finger out of his bum. He will most certainly have to do that at Freo to get any spot in that 22 and I truly hope he does.

I would just rather see a 23 year old mature aged mid from another club run at muck at Melbourne that Sylvia coast another year. Fed up with waiting for Sylvia to produce more than mediocre efforts.

I don't regard our recruiting efforts in 2012 as a disaster at all. We managed to get Jack Viney with a second rounder, got the player we wanted in Jimmy Toumpas at pick 4, picked up Jesse Hogan and Dom Barry in the mini draft, Dean Kent looks likely and mature age recruits Matt Jones, Dean Terlich and Mitch Clisby all showed a lot. Injuries aside, Chris Dawes provided leadership and will be a very handy cog in our forward line with a healthy body and a full pre season behind him.

Given the turnover of 14 players in a season, the players you get at the end of the line are always going to be a bit of pot luck. I think Pedersen was a fair swap for Gysberts who didn't get a game at North. Byrnes cost absolutely nothing and is there as much as anything for experience and leadership. That leaves us with David Rodan who we picked up for pick 88 (and a similar role to Byrnes) and Tom Gillies, a flop who came as a delisted free agent and cost nothing.

On balance, I think our recruiting at the end of 2012 was a plus given the necessarily high turnover in players. I'd be happy with more of the same with the rider that we should expect at least one high quality trade coming in if we let pick 2 go.

BINGO

    DELUGE by KC from Casey

The Casey Demons overcame their inaccuracy and the wet inhospitable conditions to overrun the lowly Northern Bullants at Genis Steel Oval in Cramer Street, Preston on Saturday. It was an eerie feeling entering the ground that in the past hosted many VFA/VFL greats of the past including the legendary Roy Cazaly. The cold and drizzly rain and the sparse crowd were enough to make one want to escape to the nearby Preston Market and hang out there for the afternoon. In the event, the fans

    INSANITY by Whispering Jack

Somehow, the Melbourne Football Club managed it twice in the course of a week. Coach Simon Goodwin admitted it in his press conference after the loss against the Brisbane Lions in a game where his team held a four goal lead in the third term:   "In reality we went a bit safe. Big occasion, a lot of young players playing. We probably just went into our shell a bit. "There's a bit to unpack in that last quarter … whether we go into our shells a bit late in the game."   Well

    UNBACKABLE by The Oracle

They’re billing the Brisbane Lions as a sleeping giant — the best team outside the top eight —and based on their form this month they’re a definite contender for September AFL action. Which is not exactly the best of news if you happen to be Melbourne, the visiting team this week up at the Gabba.  Even though they are placed ahead of their opponent on the AFL table, and they managed to stave off defeat in their last round victory over North Melbourne, this week’s visitors to the Sunshi

    WILDCARDS by KC from Casey

Casey’s season continued to drift into helplessness on Sunday when they lost another home game by a narrow margin, this time six points, in their Round 13 clash with North Melbourne’s VFL combination. The game was in stunning contrast to their last meeting at the same venue when Casey won the VFL Wildcard Match by 101 points. Back then, their standout players were Brodie Grundy and James Jordon who are starring in the AFL with ladder leaders, the Sydney Swans (it turned out to be their last
