Two decades ago StKilda was the retirement home for past it Carlton players. Let's not be Geelong's or anyone else's.

Quick fixes rarely work

I think it's about time we started to learn from past mistakes rather than keep making them

Our past mistakes were not surrounding young talent with mature bodies.

Both Chapman and Corey could fill a need for 2 years while Aish and Kelly developed bigger bodies.

Not only Chapman and Corey, but there is a long list of blokes that could be courted with big money.

Chapman isn't a rodan, he is a serious high quality player, i'd have no hesitation in offering him a short term deal if they feel his body would hold up.

Highest regard for both players. What great careers they have both had.

Both players will be in their 14th years of AFL and naturally their bodies are creaking. Too long in the tooth for MFC as players.

I want to focus on senior players that will play 3-4 years of quality football rather than 12 month cameos with their bodies at risk.

I heard somewhere that Chappy played for our seconds (pre VFL period) for a time. Can anyone confirm this?
By the way, what ever happened to that case where he allegedly got those people throwing coins at him outside KFC? I never did hear the outcome of that.

This is a joke right?

we have a list of softc0cks so let's put an old hard nut on the list and watch the others somehow just absorb that from him and presto no more softc0cks

Well to go with some young hard nuts as well it could be worth a shot.

The way I see it we've got potential in Garland, Frawley, Dawes, McDonald, Nath Jones, Trengove, Grimes, Mitch Clark etc that if we get the culture right now it might work.

The problem was Neitz, Yze and White weren't really great leaders and that spilt down to Green, Bruce and Robertson and then on to Sylvia, Moloney and Davey. The MFC generation of players lost years may well just carry on if all of a sudden people start saying Nath Jones, Garland, Grimes and Frawley don't really care and are soft and then it will be 2020 and everyone will be saying that Jack Viney is unproffessional and soft as well (not at the ball but in terms of effort).

There's too many list spaces to fill that bringing in 1 more experienced and reliable veteran isn't a bad idea.

I'd be happy to have him as a playing assistant coach eg. Junior last year at GWS. We wouldn't be bringing him in as a long term proposition, more to teach the likes of Viney and Toumpas, and to help demonstrate what it takes to create a successful mindset.

we need 2 older players of high caliber & physically & mentally tough, to help the changeover with our culture. our culture is now cracked open & this is a chance to reshape it the right way... with real leaders from strong & winning cultures. it only needs to be 2 yrs n contracts if that gets them here...

... then Grimes, Trengove, & Viney, & others will all mature & absorb from them over that time, helping them & the club to grow.

One older player is not enough alone, to help swing attitudes.

He did, but probably only for one game as a top-up player http://demonwiki.org/paul+chapman

  • 2 weeks later...

He was just on Footy Classified. Geelong may not be giving him another contract.

Pros:

Hard as f***

Still racking up touches

Wins the ball

Finals and premiership player

Practically free pickup if hes a free agent

Cons:

He's 31

Rodan didnt work out

May not have the passion to play elsewhere

Spends great slabs of time injured. (Tony Tea)

    DELUGE by KC from Casey

The Casey Demons overcame their inaccuracy and the wet inhospitable conditions to overrun the lowly Northern Bullants at Genis Steel Oval in Cramer Street, Preston on Saturday. It was an eerie feeling entering the ground that in the past hosted many VFA/VFL greats of the past including the legendary Roy Cazaly. The cold and drizzly rain and the sparse crowd were enough to make one want to escape to the nearby Preston Market and hang out there for the afternoon. In the event, the fans

    INSANITY by Whispering Jack

Somehow, the Melbourne Football Club managed it twice in the course of a week. Coach Simon Goodwin admitted it in his press conference after the loss against the Brisbane Lions in a game where his team held a four goal lead in the third term:   "In reality we went a bit safe. Big occasion, a lot of young players playing. We probably just went into our shell a bit. "There's a bit to unpack in that last quarter … whether we go into our shells a bit late in the game."   Well

    UNBACKABLE by The Oracle

They’re billing the Brisbane Lions as a sleeping giant — the best team outside the top eight —and based on their form this month they’re a definite contender for September AFL action. Which is not exactly the best of news if you happen to be Melbourne, the visiting team this week up at the Gabba.  Even though they are placed ahead of their opponent on the AFL table, and they managed to stave off defeat in their last round victory over North Melbourne, this week’s visitors to the Sunshi

    WILDCARDS by KC from Casey

Casey’s season continued to drift into helplessness on Sunday when they lost another home game by a narrow margin, this time six points, in their Round 13 clash with North Melbourne’s VFL combination. The game was in stunning contrast to their last meeting at the same venue when Casey won the VFL Wildcard Match by 101 points. Back then, their standout players were Brodie Grundy and James Jordon who are starring in the AFL with ladder leaders, the Sydney Swans (it turned out to be their last
