If culture was just rubbish, why has Peter Jackson, our new President Bartlett, Neil Craig and others all focused on the need to have a better culture?

If culture was just rubbish, why are clubs like Sydney and Geelong lauded for their success, with credit being given to the culture within the club?

If culture was just rubbish, why is Paul Roos lauded as such a fantastic coach because of the way in which he set up a winning CULTURE at Sydney?

If culture was just rubbish, why is Port's form turnaround often credited to an improvement in standards driven by cultural change?

If culture was just rubbish, why is it's importance constantly referred to across the league????

Every club can have professional standards, but the culture is a big influencer in the achievement of those standards.

I'll answer one by one.

Culture is a buzz word, like synergy, one team etc etc..........it is a catch all.......we have it in work now, the modern workplace needs it, coz the standard of a fair days work for a fair days pay vanished years ago......so it has reared it's ugly little head in the footy 'industry' as well

Because they are successful, nobody mentioned the Geelong or Sydney culture in the 90's surely it was there then wasn't it?

Roos is not lauded by me, I regard him as overrated, he won one flag, Leigh Mathews, now him I laud

Port's turnaround is because of what I wrote in my post.......check it out

If Bailey or Neeld had come in and we had won 13 or 14 games and got in or got close to finals, nobody would be mentioning the lack of culture, but due to many circumstances, injury, drafting failures, illness, death, forced retirement and other issues and mistakes it didn't happen.......nothing to do with culture

A Strong Culture is the fabric of any successful organisation.

Out of the five teams below, tell me which one has has identifiable cultural issues and then tell me how they're performing now. If you can't see the direct correlation I'll be amazed.

Geelong, St Kilda, Collingwood, Hawthorn, Sydney.

It might be true, but it doesn't mean a thing and messes up any attempts to figure out the problem with your uncle's willie.

You are completely delusional Satyr if you think culture is a myth.

You write "if only Bailey or Neeld had 13-14 wins all would be good". That's like climbing the Faraway tree.

And you tell me to get into the future!!!! :)

Wins don't just happen.....but i am sure you will find a way to argue.

but its the first time I can remember the club having not one champion Now im not talking about nearly ,could be, sorta, maybe,soon ta be.

its without a doubt something that grates me, nearly every horrible time I can think of, weve at least had a champ to talk about and brag to our friends how good he is ,or how fair he is

atm weve got nothing and it shows,i hope the new prez is the starting point.but gee its a long drive home after a game atm

It is a buzz word, like most of the thinking in the modern world, thought up by some post graduate student for his humanities thesis who has never done a day's work in their life coz they are not capable of it

They are just winning teams, they are in their cycle, I never hear anyone mention Brisbane's culture, coz it wasn't a buzz word then, they didn't have one, just bloody good players and a great coach, my point

We are supposed to have a culture here in my place of employment, nothing has changed, the only reason the work gets done is because of the lower level workers, and thankfully we have an older demongraphic, middle and senior management spends most days talking about going forward and head counts.....inertia as an art form

I hear people say a culture takes a while to put in place and in the same breath they say, but in footy things can turn around quickly....which one is it?

My memory goes back to 1959 jazza and I agree.

In the second half of the 60's and 70's when we struggled to beat time with a stick we had the likes of Greg Wells, Stan Alves, Gary Hardiman and of course Robbie Flower.

Trying to compare one era to another is impossible but where are these players in our current list.

again, you look for blame.

this isn't about blame, right or wrong, its about understanding, whats happened, why, Learning & fixing the problems... I don't think you get it by your response.

the cosy attitudes around the north I think soften our boys & condition them to go easy & be soft... they are not helped to keep the fires burning, the MOJO rising, & the Mongrel in our play.

this does not stem from the southern side. our boards & admins all mix in the north & I think are infected by too much "nice"... this spreads wide & far thru our club, & into our young kids.

You get tired carrying around those chips on both shoulders??

What's your definition of organisational culture Satyriconhome?

Because to be honest, from reading your posts I actually don't think you have a clue what it is.

Culture is a constant. It ebbs and flows according to quality of strategy and execution.

MFC = poor culture

Hawthorn have built a culture over decades that started from Kennedy learning from Norm Smith. Their culture has been maintained. Ours died.

Leigh Matthews was a Captain within that culture.

He took it to Brisbane

You just hate the MCC.

Our problems have arisen because sadly Jimmy employed his mates into positions of power.

If what PJ reports is correct Schwab had no idea what he was doing or creating.

Being tossed out in the 80's was a huge mistake.

The MFC/MCC must get stronger.

WYL I have no hatred to the MCC whatsoever. I have no ill feeling for them. the only regret in my mind is that our supporters members have lost "touch" with the players race & access to the rooms. But that isn't hatred or any form of malice.

No what I've been trying to do for 2 years now is jog peoples minds, believing they will be able to see the picture once I highlighted it... I see I was largely mistaken thinking many would be capable of seeing & understanding what I've been saying. A few have seen it.

I was wrong to think that I could show the Idea & people would grasp it. I couldn't grasp this stuff when I was young, & I was emotionally very closed off... I learnt from years of hard work to be able to open up more, and see more clearly... when things are OK.

I can now see & understand the workings of things much better than back then, but I seem to have lost the ability to convey the Idea into an understandable form. written words aren't my strong suit. verbally is much preferred.

Everyone involved in a football club plays a role jn defining its culture including supporters. The MFC has not understood this.

Don McLardy highlighted this when he said the MFC problems of 2013 were Footy Department and not Administration. Wrong answer Don.

Jack Watts highlights this everytime he says we need leaders that can stand up. Why dont you stand up Jack.

We supporters highlight this whenever we accept mediocrity.

We need everyone from the administration, coaches and players aligned to being in a position to compete for and win our 13th flag.

1) As I thought, I got the 'It was an hour before.' Regardless of the tone, Jack Watts and others weren't even looking at him. Neeldy sounded like he was at times on the verge of cracking up. And everyone left the room in bloody silence. They didn't have to be jumping out of their skin but a little enthusiasm wouldn't have hurt. They walked out of there like scalded schoolboys.

2) Re: Drag on the competition. You are putting words into PJ's mouth to support your own argument. He was asked a specific question as to why Mark Neeld was fired. He was incredibly specific as to why it was happening. There was no equivocation.

3) You still haven't addressed how shonky the process was or the fact that MN was most likely a political appointment.

4) You haven't addressed the overwhelming amount of evidence that Mark Neeld went from a big talking spruiker to a man who was telling us we were outmuscled by the Gold Coast Suns.

I like you dee-luded and I mean that. But this stuff about how Mark Neeld was in full control of the situation and we all just lost faith is preposterous. The guy was in way over his head and for his sake, let alone the club's, the appointment needed to end. I blame the people who appointed him for this as well as they pretty much set him up for failure. They gave him a job he was patently unqualified to carry out. Master coaches would have needed time to get their heads around the myriad issues confronting the place, let alone a novice.

In regards to this, speaking to you about Mark Neeld is akin to bashing one's head against a brick wall. Some might look at the Neeld situation and see a glass nearly empty. Some might look at it and see a glass with some water in it. You look at the MN era and see a unicorn.

Fair enough. I'm really not going to argue with you about Neelds ability to be a head coach, and I felt exactly the same as you when I saw that footage... I looked for some 'reason' about that, as It seemed shocking at the time to be honest.

However, the point remains of what I've been referring to, is the losing culture & the way to clear it out & rejuvenate it into a healthy one. I think the most thorough way to deal with it was to do it quickly, as he was doing...

IF we had more strong leaders, then such a savage cut & cleanout wouldn't have been as necessary. but because we didn't have any topline elders as leaders, it needed to be a hard prune & start young... Trenners, Grimes are natural leaders who were just too young, but without real mature leaders, we had little choice.

Certainly Nat Jones is now, & has really taken a big step this year, in the absence of those gone...

I think Clark can become a real leader & Dawes I think is there abouts. AIso I think Garland is growing into a leader slowly. Chip Frawley could also follow him as well.

So I think that part of the plan, is falling slowly into place.

We still need more mature bodied players to help our cause onfield in general play.

But don't forget that the Hawthornfc Has Never had a cosy culture, & they have never entertained one,,, even after their halcyon days of the 80's - 90's.. its just not them. they have never looked for a soft style of play. or shortcuts. & never rested on their laurels.

i understand the Hawthorn culture fairly well...i went to Thursday Training sessions at Glenferrie oval quite a few times in 89 for the Sausage Sizzle with a Hawthorn mate i worked with.

I only disagree with you on one point...i do not think our softness came from the Northern stand of the MCC....i think it evolved entirely within the MFC..which is probably why there has been so much Board disharmony through the decades.

Now maybe the MCC was not forceful enough on this, but i do place the blame fairly and squarely on the Football Club.

We can become strong with the MCC we need the BEST CEO & Football Manager as the base....

    With Casey Fields basking in sunshine, an enthusiastic throng of young Demons fans formed a guard of honour for the evergreen and much admired 75-gamer Paxy Paxman. As the home team ran out to play, Paxy’s banner promised that the Demons would bounce back from last week’s loss to Brisbane and reign supreme.   Disappointingly, the Kangaroos dominated the match to win by 50 points, but our Paxy certainly did her bit.  She was clearly our best player, sweeping well in defence.

    The 40,000 seat $319 million redeveloped Kardinia Park Stadium was nowhere near capacity last night but the strong, noisy contingent of Melbourne supporters led by the DeeArmy journeyed to Geelong to witness a high-quality battle between two of the best teams in AFLW.   The Cats entered the arena to the blasting sounds of Zombie Nation and made a hot start kicking the first 2 goals. They brought tremendous forward half pressure, and our newly renovated defensive unit looked shaky.

    The Mighty Demons take on the confident Cats this Saturday night at the recently completed $319 million redeveloped GMHBA Stadium, with the bounce of the ball at 7:15pm.
