Can u imagine how much the Doggies are going to spank us by in the last round.

Geez cant wait.

But at least we are consistent in that we start the season with a flogging and will end it the same way!!

Strauss was ok today until injured. I can understand having a loose man in defense but watts wasn't there as a defensive player he was to deep and was there to set up play going forward, this had to have been a coach thing because to have a player standing where watts was avoiding any body contact or any defensive acts no player in the afl could get away with this unless it was a coach instruction. Craig is either an extremely bad coach or is scared to put jack under pressure either way that was bad coaching today.

To me having jack that deep was taking him out of the game and he had no impact at all and going forward Freo loose man toweled us. Craig took any chance for us to play our best footy, we where never going to win but two weeks in a row the coach took our best forward that was playing to a position of little impact.

Saying the above watts was bad today one of the softest performance by any individual this year he has a few mates but he continues to put these performances up

The thing about Craig's decision to play Jack Watts down back, which was mentioned on radio post game, is that having him play loose as the extra defender teaches him nothing about defensive pressure. If he was manning Pavlich, then at least he might pick up a few tips on intensity or just a lesson in how to lead up as a forward. But no, Jack is used as a roam free quarterback and puts in an insipid effort and plays way too deep most of time and makes possibly one intercept mark for the entire game. Rivers would have taken five. Garland probably 10. Whose fault is that? Jack's or the coach?

The second observation is that poor Troy Davis has come in and played two games as a forward and tried but does not possess the tools for this level (not quick, not a powerful mark, not a thumping kick). He will probably get dropped and is a very high chance of getting delisted. It's nice that we played him, but it would have been nice if we'd seen whether he was up to it as a defender at AFL level. Whose fault is that. Troy's or the coach?

PSD has gone quiet.

I hope you enjoyed the 10 minutes of effort today. You had a go at me in the 2nd Q and i think we kicked 1 goal for the reat of the fcuking day.

Lift your expectations mate. I want to go to the football in September. These lazy prickz won't take us anywhere apart from JV Dawes & hopefully Clark.

The rest can walk.

No WYL PSD had to go out and watched the last quarter away from home, please tell me again those boys I named before didn't put effort in,, FFS they just aren't that good and its the likes of Watts, Sylvia and Howe who are meant to provide the polish are a big part of the problem. Sylvia does although look like he is having a crack now and again. Also not to mention the players we had out. But you stay true with calling them pea hearts because many will be playing for the next couple of years from that list I gave you.

We play the Doggies on Sept 1st head along and see the boys play for the first time since round 2 if it means that much to you. You think you have higher standards than the rest of us you don't, you have short sightedness. That Freo side has a lot of very very average footballers who just play a system and the 6/8 quality players they have on their list, those players I named in the game day thread could fit very easily into that Freo side don't think for a minute they couldn't

Currently watching the Bulldogs play with absolute passion.

It hurts.

Just a comment on the Bulldogs:

After losing to us in Round 14 this year, the Bulldogs's previous 24 games had yielded 3 wins and 21 losses.

They've turned things around since then, for various reasons, but, along with Port's change from 2012 to 2013, it ought give us hope that, even in the darkest and deepest holes, there is always the chance that things will improve sooner than people think.

i understand what you mean, but for the past 7 years now i have been watching plenty of other teams "improve sooner than people think" hoping that we will do the same and everything will be ok again. But as each season passes i am left bitterly disappointed, just like this season as the Bulldogs and Port have improved sooner than everyone thought. When is it our turn?

Spot on I think the coach is burning these two kids. For heavens sake after what went on this week why would you throw Watts back as the loose backman but keep Davis forward in a dysfunctional forward line? Keep Watts forward and throw Davis back where he belongs would be the smart play. JW is learning nothing playing the loose backman I agree and not doing it well and can rightly ask if he is being developed!

Quit making excuses PSD, none of this list of cream puffs deserve it.

Hard work is beyond this lot. CS rewarded them before anything was done.

Don't question my support mate. Its been there since 1971.

This list of freeloaders are not playing football in 2013..it is not worth going. You can if you want, but you are wasting your time.

THE PLAYERS DO NOT CARE. And until they do it is we the supporter who get burnt.

Hell the players will be paid this week. Grimes and Trengove Captains wages!!! That is actually perversly funny :)

'WYL', I agree with some of what you post but on this I agree with 'Pennant'. I think our guys are having a crack, I just don't think they have either the ability or confidence to compete with the top teams. Craig can't turn around the damage that's been done over the last 7 or so years in a few weeks.

It's really hard to watch a game when you know deep down that your side has no chance or winning and that's virtually every game for us. It's soul destroying, but I do think the players are trying. They just don't know how to play good footy together, and of course some of them are not at the level.

I'm totally with you on the CS regime but now it's time to move on, I know it's difficult but the new broom is almost through the club. Let PJ and President (Jed) Bartlett do their thing.

They just aren't good enough 'wyl', I don't know if you've played or not but I've played in games where we've blown teams out of the water and games where we've been blown away. Everyone had a crack, it's just some teams and players are better and some have a much better system of play. Sometimes I will give you that teams are not mentally switched on but when you are getting whacked week after week it is no wonder.

A lot of supporters get on here and say we don't mind so long as the players have a crack, well then they have a go at someone like Davis. the kid's in his 2nd game, he doesn't seem blessed with loads of skill but he has worked had at Casey and deserved a game and he looks lost as a forward and at the level but he tried as hard as he could. He may not make it but he is giving it his best shot.

They don't play for each other because they are not sure if targets will be hit or if it will rebound to their opponent. Think in the 2nd Q where we were playing some good footy, we attacked hard, did all the right things got the ball into a scoring position but the bounce went the wrong way. That's deflating to a team like ours who have crunched for the last couple of years. The players went back into their shells.

An interesting thing happened in the Geelong game last night where Rivers dropped into Mackie's space. Well of course he was just doing the Melbourne thing and not thinking about how a team like Geelong plays, players move to position with a purpose and more often than not it works because they trust in their teammate. Jared coped a server from Mackie, at Melbourne we don't know how to do this and we don't have the skills to execute that bring the trust from teammates to take the options.

i agree with a lot of what you say. But 90% of this list refuse or cannot learn. They are cooked because of the previous regime's template of taking the easy way out.

Time to trade Watts, Sylvia, Blease and Tapscott why they have some currency.

I doubt also whether Grimes and Trengove would get a game elsewhere.

Would need 3 or 4 priority picks to make this team competitive.

Tapscott has some currency? I suspect his value could be measured in Zimbabwian dollars.

I blame the previous regime for a lot 'wyl', if anything it may have been the type of players recruited, the culture of the club and of course the coaches hired. I think as 'old dee' will say tomorrow when he get's online that a lot of them just aren't good enough. I'm a little bit more upbeat than 'old' and think with some of them it is a confidence issue but a lot aren't good enough.

But they were all good enough when they were drafted. I think we drafted very badly for what we REALLY needed. But for the players to not fight against a lot of players who would have come from the same drafts!!

I understand you pain 'wyl'. I've been in it since Baileys first game as coach, we rolled over that day and have never really been back on our feet.

Yes that game against Hawthorn. Not much has happened since has it. Our players do not learn, & the club is not tough enough on them. They better be in 3 weeks time.

    GETAWAY by Meggs

Calling all fit players. Expect every available Melbourne player to board the Virgin cross-continent flight to Perth for this Round 4 clash on Saturday afternoon at Fremantle Oval. It promises to be keenly contested, though Fremantle is the bookies clear favourite.  If we lose, finals could be remoter than Rottnest Island especially following on from the Dees 50-point dismantlement by North Melbourne last Sunday.  There are 8 remaining matches, over the next 7 weeks.  To Meggs’

    DRUBBING by Meggs

With Casey Fields basking in sunshine, an enthusiastic throng of young Demons fans formed a guard of honour for the evergreen and much admired 75-gamer Paxy Paxman. As the home team ran out to play, Paxy’s banner promised that the Demons would bounce back from last week’s loss to Brisbane and reign supreme.   Disappointingly, the Kangaroos dominated the match to win by 50 points, but our Paxy certainly did her bit.  She was clearly our best player, sweeping well in defence.

    GARNER STRENGTH by Meggs

In keeping with our tough draw theme, Week 3 sees Melbourne take on flag favourites, North Melbourne, at Casey Fields this Sunday at 1:05pm.  The weather forecast looks dry, a coolish 14 degrees and will be characteristically gusty.  Remember when Casey Fields was considered our fortress?  The Demons have lost two of their past three matches at the Field of Dreams, so opposition teams commute down the Princes Highway with more optimism these days.  The Dees held the highe

    ALLY’S FIELDS by Meggs

It was a sunny morning at Casey Fields, as Demon supporters young and old formed a guard of honour for fan favourite and 50-gamer Alyssa Bannan.  Banno’s banner stated the speedster was the ‘fastest 50 games’ by an AFLW player ever.   For Dees supporters, today was not our day and unfortunately not for Banno either. A couple of opportunities emerged for our number 6 but alas there was no sizzle.   Brisbane atoned for last week’s record loss to North Melbourne, comprehensively out

    GOOD MORNING by Meggs

If you are driving or training it to Cranbourne on Saturday, don’t forget to set your alarm clock. The Melbourne Demons play the reigning premiers Brisbane Lions at Casey Fields this Saturday, with the bounce of the ball at 11:05am.  Yes, that’s AM.   The AFLW fixture shows deference to the AFL men’s finals games.  So, for the men it’s good afternoon and good evening and for the women it’s good morning.     The Lions were wounded last week by 44 points, their highest ever los

    HORE ON FIRE by Meggs

The 40,000 seat $319 million redeveloped Kardinia Park Stadium was nowhere near capacity last night but the strong, noisy contingent of Melbourne supporters led by the DeeArmy journeyed to Geelong to witness a high-quality battle between two of the best teams in AFLW.   The Cats entered the arena to the blasting sounds of Zombie Nation and made a hot start kicking the first 2 goals. They brought tremendous forward half pressure, and our newly renovated defensive unit looked shaky.

    REMATCH by Meggs

The Mighty Demons take on the confident Cats this Saturday night at the recently completed $319 million redeveloped GMHBA Stadium, with the bounce of the ball at 7:15pm. Our last game of 2023 was an agonisingly close 5-point semi-final loss to Geelong, and we look forward to Melbourne turning the tables this week. Practice match form was scratchy for both teams with the Demons losing practice matches to Carlton and Port Adelaide, while the Cats beat Collingwood but then lost to Essendo

It’s been hard to miss the seismic global momentum happening in Women’s sport of late. The Matildas have been playing to record sell-out crowds across Australia and ‘Mary Fowler is God’ is chalked onto footpaths everywhere. WNBA basketball rookie sensation Caitlin Clark has almost single-handedly elevated her Indiana Fever team to unprecedented viewership, attendances and playoffs in the USA.   Our female Aussie Paris 2024 Olympians won 13 out of Australia’s all-time record 18 gol

    EPILOGUE by Whispering Jack

I sit huddled in near darkness, the only light coming through flickering embers in a damp fireplace, the room in total silence after the thunderstorm died. I wonder if they bothered to restart the game.  No point really. It was over before it started. The team’s five star generals in defence and midfield ruled out of the fray, a few others missing in action against superior enemy firepower and too few left to fly the flag for the field marshal defiantly leading his outnumbered army int
