Posting unsubstantiated rumours on this website is strictly forbidden.

Demonland has made the difficult decision to not permit this platform to be used to discuss & debate the off-field issues relating to the Melbourne Football Club including matters currently being litigated between the Club & former Board members, board elections, the issue of illicit drugs in footy, the culture at the club & the personal issues & allegations against some of our players & officials ...

We do not take these issues & this decision lightly & of course we believe that these serious matters affecting the club we love & are so passionate about are worthy of discussion & debate & I wish we could provide a place where these matters can be discussed in a civil & respectful manner.

However these discussions unfortunately invariably devolve into areas that may be defamatory, libelous, spread unsubstantiated rumours & can effect the mental health of those involved. Even discussion & debate of known facts or media reports can lead to finger pointing, blame & personal attacks.

The repercussion is that these discussions can open this website, it’s owners & it’s users to legal action & may result in this website being forced to shutdown.

Our moderating team are all volunteers & cannot moderate the forum 24/7 & as a consequence problematic content that contravenes our rules & standards may go unnoticed for some time before it can be removed.

We reserve the right to delete posts that offend against our above policy & indeed, to ban posters who are repeat offenders or who breach our code of conduct.

WE HAVE BUILT A FANTASTIC ONLINE COMMUNITY AT DEMONLAND OVER THE PAST 23 YEARS & WE WOULD LIKE TO CONTINUE TO BE ABLE TO DISCUSS THE CLUB WE LOVE & ARE SO PASSIONATE ABOUT.

Thank you for your continued support & understanding. Go Dees.

"MELBOURNE is considering parting with Pick No.2 in the national draft to land Dustin Martin.

The Herald Sun has learnt Demons coach Paul Roos has had several discussions with Martin’s manager Ralph Carr in the past week.

The Demons could also use its priority pick if it was to receive one from the AFL."

I hope he is also talking to his minder.

Just my opinion, I think Id rather wait to see what starts falling from trees as a result of him leaving and going somewhere than actually going after him. There will be knock ons and this might prove more fruitful and less destructive to our fledgling rebuild of a culture

I can work out what makes you think they're in some way related...

If you can't understand how us being scared of a bad boy superstar like Martin is like us being scared of a bad boy superstar like Darling then I don't see the point in having discussions with you.

Let me tell you a story

Dan Hannebery:

- Wasn't close to peak fitness in first season, rocked up in poor condition

- Egging incident on muck up day

- Was in a caravan that rolled through a campsite at falls festival over Christmas period

- Loves a night out when back in town due to split round etc with his old school mates

All very minor things and to say he was some part of bad culture would be crazy. He's a freak gut runner and hard as can be as witnessed in last years grand final. But that's a so called wrap sheet of a guy who's been playing in Sydney. Now who knows what is true of Martin but his wrap sheet has Hannebery's well and truly covered.

My point is how much will the Sydney culture theory work when implemented in Melbourne.

I'd love to get Martin. But if we do then I hope we are prepared for the occasional off field drama because I doubt a Tiger changes his spots.

The question is how good is he on field? Has he even improved much from his first year? Does he do enough two way running and in and under work? I was at the Rich v Carl final and I saw a lot of great stuff from Judd, Cotchin and Murphy, but especially when the momentum swung I didn't see much of Dusty.

I will leave it to Roos.

But he is high maintenance with issues and apparently has been offered $650k by the Saints..

I reckon we will pass on him.

My tigers mate thinks he has been approached by the hawks. Buddy leaving frees up the dollars, Hodge, Mitchell and Sewell all pushing 30.

I would remind you that Darling had a brain injury and a poor under 18 year and that every club including West Coast passed on him at least once. Martin now appears to be set to leave the club, which is ironic that Scully did the same thing but even us recruiting Martin now in some ways would justify not recruiting him at the time.

But you raise a valid point.

not so funny really, when its what people new on face value.

& on face value they would be correct. word was also that we didn't even bother to talk to him. this apparent attitude angered many, in the face of many very bad recruiting decision prior to that year, & since.

..... so, no, you don't get to laugh at the posters, who rightly said we should have been more open to talking to all the top draftees. the posters were right we should talk to all the Rnd 1 potentials... & let the supporters know we did as well. After all, its the supporters wherewithall the club spends.

after all that said, in hindsight its a big no now for Martin, from me anyway.

cunnington, freeman, Adams, ++++++ there must be a number of players we can talk to.

I still think it's funny, hindsight is a lovely thing with many things, and it's the same with our recruiting. But at the same time everyone said how well we did out of the drafts, because at the time they were the best junior players!

There was no way anyone would have taken Martin over Scully or trengove on draft day, but on current form sure, having said that the reason how Martin was loyal and signed his lucrative contract at Richmond was people's reasoning and yes that is funny to me.

Has just turned 22. So comparing him to Judd is a little unfair.

Also, he has improved each season in nearly every category:

I can't wait to see what some of those commenting that we shouldn't go near him with a barge pole, will say about Roos if he were to take him on. Should be interesting :-)

Why? If Roos wants him he has more of a say than we do, and all we can do is trust his judgement. I may not like it, but it's his call.

Nick Davis - One of the laziest players ever.

Rhyce Shaw - An original "rat pack" member, involved in drink driving incidents.

Barry Hall - Was always seen as an on-field ticking time bomb.

Spida Everitt - Can't think of a major factor but come on, it's Spida.

You're talking about on field issues and Shaw had a bit part in the Didak biz.

No one is saying Martin can't play, it's off field that seems to be the problem.

Roos doesn't have a history of picking these type of players at all.

Who will they get to replace Buddy?

Hale, Burgoyne, Gibson, Guerra, Lake, Hodge, Mitchell, Osborne, and Sewell are all pushing 30 or over.

This year and next year are probably their best shots at another flag before a minor rebuild so I reckon they'd be chasing a FF rather than a mid if Buddy does go.

But who knows!

Improvement. But a victim of his fast start I'd say. Not enough goals or tackles but otherwise ok numbers. Will he go to the next level though? Otherwise we use pick 2 as a trade for a more steady on and off field player or we go the draft. They aren't superstar numbers.

Have met Dusty a couple times, a very different unit but he is not the monster that some on here make him out to be.

Although he was good mates with Connors, there is a large difference. Connors was a loud, obnoxious tool at times where Dusty would just sit around quietly. Not saying he is an angel but he is not a massive trouble maker like some here seem to beleive.

Yes he is loose but he is a super player with an amazing leg on him and is only going to get better over the next three years.

I can't understand why people don't want him for the role model/image side of things but anyone who can get 25 touches and kick a sausage a game is ok by me.

Welcome Dusty, look forward to a few sharpies on a Sunday with you at the Geebung as long as we notch up a W over the weekend.

Yeah comparing him to a two time Brownlow winner, premiership winning captain, five time Australian and multiple club best and fairests is a bit of a long stretch.

@ Pick #26 2010 National Draft it wasn't such a bad risk...

Pick 2, is another matter entirely... P2, for Adams + Pick 10,, I would definately go for.

Remember, he was the pick behind Trengove...

UNDER THE PUMP by KC from Casey

The Casey Demons have been left languishing near the bottom of the VFL table after suffering a 32-point defeat at the hands of stand alone club Williamstown at Casey Fields on Sunday. The Demons suffered a major setback before the game even started when AFL listed players Ben Brown, Marty Hore and Josh Schache were withdrawn from the selected side. Only Schache was confirmed as an injury replacement, the other two held over as possible injury replacements for Melbourne’s Thursday night fixt

THE MEANING OF FOOTY by Whispering Jack

Throughout history various philosophers have grappled with the meaning of life. Aristotle, Aquinas, Kant, Nietzsche, Schopenhauer and a multitude of authors of diverse religious texts all tried. As society became more complex, the question became attached to specific endeavours in life even including sporting pursuits where such questions arose among our game’s commentariat as, “what is the meaning of football”? Melbourne coach Simon Goodwin must be tired of dealing with such a dilemma but,

LEADERS OF THE PACK by The Oracle

I was asked to write a preview of this week’s Round 8 match between Melbourne and Geelong. The two clubs have a history that goes right back to the time when the game was starting to become an organised sport but it’s the present that makes the task of previewing this contest so interesting. Both clubs recently reached the pinnacle of the competition winning premiership flags in 2021 and 2022 respectively, but before the start of this season, many good judges felt their time had passed - n
