Watts waiting on coaching appointment

Sylvia used to be my pet frustration. He can go if he likes.. I really dont care anymore. In fact id rather he did and freed up a spot and cash.

Now Watts is my #1 Frustration. Heres a kid who does have ability. We see it from time to time. But just as often we see effort and brain fades. Could he /would he perform to around 80% for most of a game hed be a star.. But WILL he ??

Maybe Roos senses the latent potential...wtfk !!!

Hes not playing like he really wants to be at the club. Why cant they all adopt the Jones ethic ??

Id rather 90% of someone with 75% the abilty across a season than that which WATTS curently offers.

Im really disappointed in this kid.

Ben-Hur was right when he said if JW was going to show something he would have shown it by now. A la Wingard, Darling, Naitanui, Cameron

Along with Sylvia is exactly the kind of 'maybe-someday-one day' player we need to show the door. These guys do not deserve hundreds of thousands of dollars a year.

Watts was good in the first half and average in the second half.

Not Robinson Crusoe either.

Still in our best today easily.

Hey Biff are you his Bro?How can you defend this weak P....K

I urge everybody to go back and watch Watts effort when Garland got caught in the first(or could be second) and they kicked a turnover goal.

His handball to Garland was so pathetic that he had to stop his run to gather.

Then Watts man ran from behind Watts, around him as he slow jogged towards Garland for support and tackled Garland as he kicked forcing a turnover goal.

Watts only effort to stop his man was to stick out an arm and softly nudge his opponent then to continue to slow jog as Garland was dragged down.

Was fuming at Garland until I saw the replay from another angle and then was just disgusted at Watts.

I don't care about his skill that is weak football.

We need to re-sign Watts. It's a fact. Fortunately PJ gets this.

In short, we need more quality players on our list, not less.

Pedersen on a 3 year deal is astonishing.

Not fighting tooth and nail to keep Rivers is astonishing.

Recruiting Gillies is astonishing.

Please give new contracts to Watts, Sylvia and Frawley asap.

And then move the spuds on - not the quality players.

Surely this is obvious.

A real enigma. Has far better than average dexterity, peripheral vision and cognitive thinking on the field but lacks intensity and desire to impose. Could wisely use the time waiting for a new coach to learn how to defend like a footballer, not like a basketballer. I reckon when Jack is out on the ground, he believes his position is point guard, not centre half forward.

Would we miss him and could always do with the cash to recruit someone else.

Wouldn't miss him one little bit.

Geelong lost the greatest player of the last 20 years and won the flag the next sason

Watts is easily expendable

Christ, we are hard on our players! Jack needs time to develop, please allow him this. We all KNOW that he has been fed to the wolves up to this point in his career. Once we have our new coach in place, I will be giving Jack time (if he doesn't leave us) and make a call then. He is still so young and needs to be taught. Yes, he's been in the system a while now, but has he had the right Teacher? Imagine what a Chocko or a Roos would do for him. If he's still at the same place in 2 years time (when he's still only 24), then make the call!

Frawley would be off his head if he signed anything with us right now unless we offered him a stupid amount of money, Sylvia i'd prefer to keep because we can't afford to lose a strong bodied midfielder and Watts, well maybe it would be best for him to move on? who knows?

what if Watts got us Carlton's first round pick #9 and we got Dom Sheed and James Aish because of that?

Most recruiters in the competition had him at number 1.

And that's according to Gubby Allan, not Barry Prendergast.

I heard the same, Nic Nat was a highlight reel but Watts was supposed to be Nick Rewoldt mark 2.

I heard the same, Nic Nat was a highlight reel but Watts was supposed to be Nick Rewoldt mark 2.

That's right.

Lets face it, the football community as a whole had Watts or Nic Nat as #1 and the other as #2. If we drafted Nic nat, we would be saying he is a one trick pony and hopeless (and he would not have got an undeserving All Australian nod if he were at MFC). Whatever way we went we were stuffed.

Scully was universally the #1 choice in his year (and some games for us showed why).

These top tier picks were done as most other clubs would have done it. So you have to conclude we are good at ruining careers.....and not gettting the best out of our players.

I hope we keep Watts. We wont get enough for him to make it worthwhile trading him

Riht now we need a Watts playing with confidence to impose himself on games. I would be reluctant to trade him for a talented 18 y/old.

Id target hardened midfielders with 1-2 seasons left to support our developing midfield. A Sewell or Black.

Don't ignore the gargantuan effort West Coast have made in developing Naitanui.

I've no doubt whatsoever that we wouldn't have invested even half the resources they have in developing him.

We'd be lucky if he'd reached the level of Majak Daw by now - a handful of highlights, but not a lot of substance.

jack needs time for what?

he already has the skill set

will he wake up one day and magically decide he has a liking for the contest?

accept it....he is just too soft for afl football

we can't just keep saying another year, a few more games, a new mentor. its not in his dna

if he still has currency get what we can for a trade

yeah i know its sad, but i don't want to do nothing and be condemned for another long period on the bottom with players going nowhere

Jack Watts can walk out the door if he wants unfortunately, i know for a fact we're trying very hard to hang on to him, but ultimately it's his decision, if he walks fair enough, we need to work out the best trade outcome for us, which imo is carltons first round pick.

GAMEDAY: Rd 17 vs West Coast

It’s game day and the Demons return to Melbourne to play the Eagles at the MCG for the first time in over a decade. A win keeps the Dees finals hopes alive whereas a loss will almost certainly slam the finals window shut.

    CROSSROADS by The Oracle

Melbourne stands at the crossroads.  Sunday’s game against the West Coast Eagles who have not met the Demons at the MCG in more than ten years, is a make or break for the club’s finals aspirations.  That proposition is self-evident since every other team the club will be opposed to over the next eight weeks of footy is a prospective 2024 finalist. To add to this perspective is the fact that while the Demons are now in twelfth position on the AFL table, they are only a game and a half b

    DELUGE by KC from Casey

The Casey Demons overcame their inaccuracy and the wet inhospitable conditions to overrun the lowly Northern Bullants at Genis Steel Oval in Cramer Street, Preston on Saturday. It was an eerie feeling entering the ground that in the past hosted many VFA/VFL greats of the past including the legendary Roy Cazaly. The cold and drizzly rain and the sparse crowd were enough to make one want to escape to the nearby Preston Market and hang out there for the afternoon. In the event, the fans

    INSANITY by Whispering Jack

Somehow, the Melbourne Football Club managed it twice in the course of a week. Coach Simon Goodwin admitted it in his press conference after the loss against the Brisbane Lions in a game where his team held a four goal lead in the third term:   "In reality we went a bit safe. Big occasion, a lot of young players playing. We probably just went into our shell a bit. "There's a bit to unpack in that last quarter … whether we go into our shells a bit late in the game."   Well
