The Trade/Draft Rumour Mill

Denham on SEN thinks(?) that Sylvia is gone from Melbourne will almost certainly be somewhere else next year, Freo or Essendon seem to be the front runners.

He also said he wouldn't blame him due to the lack of success we've had and this is the most disturbing part of it; it seems as if the media regard clubs like Melbourne as feeders for the more successful clubs, we train them up and then they get picked up by clubs challenging and looking to fill a spot on the ground.

Train them up... for 10 years?!

I couldn't care less what the media think.

The media would've thought the same of Port and GC last year, but the wheel is turning.

This train of thought will disappear once we start to WIN consistently for the first time in a long time.

Winning will fix a lot of the problems.

I have been told (given crap about) Sylvia now a done deal at West Coke Eagles.

My Smug mate (collingwood Supporter - Enough said) was quite happy with the fact he "Knew" Sylvia was gone on a 2 year contract for 1.2M

I know its only a Rumour but 1.2M is a lot isnt it for Sylvia?

the compo for losing a player should be based on more the position of the teams , so for a bottom team losing a player to a top team should get more than a top team would recieve

this has to be taken into account or as others have said the bottom teams will all be feeder teams to the top group with money !

My understanding was that it is band compo which goes after the club's pick in that round. So yes, it is based upon the ladder position of the club losing the player. I wonder if there should be a compo factor included re the ladder position of the club receiving the FA. That way there is less incentive for a high club feeding off a lower club.

It is taken into account, by virtue of the compo pick being after your normal pick.

Therefore teams higher on the ladder get a later pick.

e.g. Franklin getting band 1 compo for Hawks would be approx pick 17, while Sylvia getting band 3 compo for MFC would be approx pick 21.

Compo is never as good as the market value of what you are losing.

    UNBACKABLE by The Oracle

They’re billing the Brisbane Lions as a sleeping giant — the best team outside the top eight —and based on their form this month they’re a definite contender for September AFL action. Which is not exactly the best of news if you happen to be Melbourne, the visiting team this week up at the Gabba.  Even though they are placed ahead of their opponent on the AFL table, and they managed to stave off defeat in their last round victory over North Melbourne, this week’s visitors to the Sunshi

    WILDCARDS by KC from Casey

Casey’s season continued to drift into helplessness on Sunday when they lost another home game by a narrow margin, this time six points, in their Round 13 clash with North Melbourne’s VFL combination. The game was in stunning contrast to their last meeting at the same venue when Casey won the VFL Wildcard Match by 101 points. Back then, their standout players were Brodie Grundy and James Jordon who are starring in the AFL with ladder leaders, the Sydney Swans (it turned out to be their last

    LIFE SUPPORT by Whispering Jack

With Melbourne’s season hanging on a thread, Saturday night’s game against North Melbourne unfolded like a scene in a hospital emergency department.  The patient presented to the ward in a bad way. Doctors and nurses pumped life-saving medication into his body and, in the ensuing half hour, he responded with blood returning to his cheeks as he stirred back to life. After a slight relapse, the nurses pumped further medication into the bloodstream and the prognosis started looking good as the
