Posting unsubstantiated rumours on this website is strictly forbidden.

Demonland has made the difficult decision to not permit this platform to be used to discuss & debate the off-field issues relating to the Melbourne Football Club including matters currently being litigated between the Club & former Board members, board elections, the issue of illicit drugs in footy, the culture at the club & the personal issues & allegations against some of our players & officials ...

We do not take these issues & this decision lightly & of course we believe that these serious matters affecting the club we love & are so passionate about are worthy of discussion & debate & I wish we could provide a place where these matters can be discussed in a civil & respectful manner.

However these discussions unfortunately invariably devolve into areas that may be defamatory, libelous, spread unsubstantiated rumours & can effect the mental health of those involved. Even discussion & debate of known facts or media reports can lead to finger pointing, blame & personal attacks.

The repercussion is that these discussions can open this website, it’s owners & it’s users to legal action & may result in this website being forced to shutdown.

Our moderating team are all volunteers & cannot moderate the forum 24/7 & as a consequence problematic content that contravenes our rules & standards may go unnoticed for some time before it can be removed.

We reserve the right to delete posts that offend against our above policy & indeed, to ban posters who are repeat offenders or who breach our code of conduct.

WE HAVE BUILT A FANTASTIC ONLINE COMMUNITY AT DEMONLAND OVER THE PAST 23 YEARS & WE WOULD LIKE TO CONTINUE TO BE ABLE TO DISCUSS THE CLUB WE LOVE & ARE SO PASSIONATE ABOUT.

Thank you for your continued support & understanding. Go Dees.

Wooshan and Lethal have officially ruled themselves out. Clarkson's manager has ruled him out.

Roos is our preferred option. He is being pursued strongly and it didn't start monday.

Daryl Wakelin a former Choco player pumped him up unbelievably today and said he was fantastic with the players, great for developing the young talent and a fantastic coach to play under

you are spot on.

at the moment you would say its Roos, Williams and Eade.

anyone else would be a surprise.

Didn't Pendlebury say this about Neeld? I suppose Neeld was untried.......

This is one of the reasons that Roos would be the must get.

He will make the older players want to stay, the youngsters keen as mustard to learn. Imagine how excited Viney, Toumpas and Hogan would be to play under Roos not to mention a Trengrove, Grimes, Watts. Then new draftees wouldnt be wishing against coming to the demons. Then you have sponors who would be climbing aboard to be part of the ressurgence.

It would totally change the mindset of the club.

But i dont think money is it all, Im sure hes set up for life.

I think the club has to sell the romance of it. Turning the oldest club from the duldrems to premiership chance in 4-5 yrs.

That would lock him into legend status and give him satisfaction of saving the Melbourne Football Club.

Hes still young and i reckon his family would back him in while he is not to long out of the game.

Fingers Crossed.

Yes, he is the key, everything else would fall into place, membership, sponsors, retaining players, attracting free agents, and confidence!

Come on, PJ work some magic, and get the demons Paul Roos. Best challenge in footy!

For mine id totally disregard any of these types of comments.. its a little like a reference, whos ever going to write a bad one .

Results are the litmus.. simple as that. Look at their results.

i.e you need to win X% of games to get to finals , you need to win most finals to get to a grandfinal

You need to have players bleed for you in order to win a GF..

theres the quick and simple checklist

who has that..

figure it out...hire them

Choco and Eade seem to be next in line. It will be one of those three I would expect.

Word is over here in the West is that Woosha has split with his wife and he's doing it pretty tough. That's the reason he seems a bit indifferent about the whole coaching caper right now.

On the bright side, a move to the East coast and a handy salary after his missus has cleaned him out might be a possibility.

exactly, as much dummy-spitting as there has been abut the appointment of Neeld, it has to be recognised that at the time the only options were he and a bunch of other 'up and coming' assistant types.. there is nothing anyone could have done about that, it's just the way the cards are dealt.. it's like having a couple of high draft picks in a weak draft... fortunately it seems to be three genuine types on offer this time around

Eff him

it's one thing to be at the helm of a club that is in the top 2-3 in terms of wealth, having clubs go half the country to play in to a sold-out, one-sided home crowd.. it is quite another to try and salvage the MFC ship that is so much more compromised than the WCE have it. Worsfold doesn't have the time in the real trenches

I know we're coming from, but perhaps you need to build a culture first? Our culture has been about tanking and poor training practices for years.

It depends how you approach the situation. As it turned out, Ross Lyon was available at the right price.

You're right though. This time there seems to be more experience, with potential candidates having less ties to senior coaching positions.

FOR THE 800,000TH TIME:

Stop talking about us having made recruiting mistakes

We picked pretty much everyone we were expected to at the picks they were taken, certainly with regard to top5 picks anyway

Whwn you are talking picks from the teens onward it becomes much more speculative and you will find all clubs have not got returns from heaps of these picks

DEVELOPING them is where we have failed, that's why we lag behind behind Sydney, Hawthorn, Geelong, Collingwood etc they have the money, culture whatever it is to actually take these picks and turn them into star players

It's the same reason the Dogs, Saints and Roos haven't quite been good enough, the playing field is not even

The saints have played of in 2 grand finals and countless finals games.

They were a bounce of the ball away from winning a flag.

Give me that any day over the Melbourne saga

I doubt Woosha will coach anyone in 2014

Looks gaunt and washed out and i expect him to walk away from football altogether

I don't want either. I want to see real success. Us, the Saints or the Dogs are all the same: it's just the level of failure that differs.

Ohh, is that whats going on... I saw him on TV a couple of days back & he looked terrible,,, Tired, & haggard... worn out... he looked like he'd been on the tiles for a 6 week bender, then shaved for the interview.

The Saints were a toe poke and a dodgy bounce from back to back. If you have a team that is still in it with 5 minutes to go in the GF it pretty much comes down to luck then.

Re Woosha looking gaunt I have seen him out and about a lot and he is lean all over. He got serious into Marathon/long distance running in the last 12 months and is pounding a fair few miles and spending a lot less time in the gym. Hence the much leaner look.

The personal issues with the marriage is what has his mind elsewhere ATM

Landing Roos would be the equivalent to when the Blues got Judd and how it completely turned around the perception of the joint. Of course winning the occasional game would be nice but we urgently need a positive future - sorry for stating the bleeding obvious.

You can't rule out Craig. If he turns the team around in the 2nd half of the season and wins say 3 - 5 games with significantly better performances it will be difficult not to give him the role. Perhaps only Roos would get nod in front of him if this was the case.

Neeld was a cancer, the players hated him, he put in place an out-dated inappropriate, copied game plan, players were not allowed to play their natural game, went into their shells and lost self confidence, self belief and thus the ability to play. Honestly Neeld should have been sacked at the end of last season. The writing was well and truly on the wall last season.

If confidence can be restored, performance could turn around quicker than people think. I am expecting a much better performance this weekend and through to the end of the season. It is my hope that there will be a slow improvement through to season ends.

The job will go to one of:

Roos, Williams, Eade or Craig

I would not rely on Clarkson's manager and have a coffee with Clarko to ascertain whether he would be interested in the coaching gig at MFC.

GL did that with Ross Lyon and where did that end?

That was a bit different though, RL kept his intentions even from his own manager, effectively destroying their relationship. What RL was a real bastards act, I highly doubt that Clarkson would do down that same path.

UNDER THE PUMP by KC from Casey

The Casey Demons have been left languishing near the bottom of the VFL table after suffering a 32-point defeat at the hands of stand alone club Williamstown at Casey Fields on Sunday. The Demons suffered a major setback before the game even started when AFL listed players Ben Brown, Marty Hore and Josh Schache were withdrawn from the selected side. Only Schache was confirmed as an injury replacement, the other two held over as possible injury replacements for Melbourne’s Thursday night fixt

THE MEANING OF FOOTY by Whispering Jack

Throughout history various philosophers have grappled with the meaning of life. Aristotle, Aquinas, Kant, Nietzsche, Schopenhauer and a multitude of authors of diverse religious texts all tried. As society became more complex, the question became attached to specific endeavours in life even including sporting pursuits where such questions arose among our game’s commentariat as, “what is the meaning of football”? Melbourne coach Simon Goodwin must be tired of dealing with such a dilemma but,

LEADERS OF THE PACK by The Oracle

I was asked to write a preview of this week’s Round 8 match between Melbourne and Geelong. The two clubs have a history that goes right back to the time when the game was starting to become an organised sport but it’s the present that makes the task of previewing this contest so interesting. Both clubs recently reached the pinnacle of the competition winning premiership flags in 2021 and 2022 respectively, but before the start of this season, many good judges felt their time had passed - n
