I wouldn't get your hopes up on Ratten.

Assistant coaches rarely move on after only 1 year, unless there are extenuous circumstances.

Ratten went to Carlton because of his ties to the club and the real opportunity to become head coach eventually.

Ratten is winning at Hawthorn, experiencing a strong culture, and would not be stepping into the top spot at MFC.

He's also not worth raving about.

Let it go...

he would do it in a heartbeat if he was asked but he won't be.

He certainly deserves more thought than your giving him. Melbourne would be negligent in their search for a new coach if Ratten was not at least considered.

The fact he is at Hawthorn experiencing their strong culture as you put it, only further enhances his appeal.

If Melbourne offered him the coaching role, I would be shocked if he didn’t take it in a heartbeat. Coaching is in his blood and as someone else pointed out, he has unfinished business.

interesting as I thought he would be 2nd cab off the rank

he loved my favourite player and got him down back, with most running bounces last year

I have noticed koori players get really down on everything, once one little thing goes wrong and its obvious for whatever reason he and MM have had a run in.

amazing what light he will see if a coach drafts him and lets his footy do the talking

How do you sell Ratten to the members and Sponsors?

IMO the new coach as well as being a good coach needs to have had a premiership or near it success.

Every one needs to believe the new coach is a cast iron good coach.

2014 is not going to be much better than this year.

We cannot afford to have anyone that will have their ability questioned next May when things are crap.

IMO Ratten does not hold that rating.

Fortunately ( or unfortunately - not sure which) because of poor past appointments the search for the new coach has so many more criteria than normally would be expected. This is not just about who is the best coach for the players. It also is about selling to the members, selling to sponsors, selling to the media and selling to wider football community. It shouldn't be but due to circumstances largely of our making , it is what it is.

so, it perplexes me then that the press don't give this more widespread coverage

what's going on here?

Because they have been potting us for a few years now and won't change until we are both making money and winning games regularly. We are an easy target and the media these days would rather feast on the weak than write proper articles about things that matter.

This is possibly true.

I just hope we don’t take an expectant approach once an experienced coach is appointed.

cmon..lol.... many are already expectant and none has been appointed yet !!

The year Ratten was our mid field coach we were top of the ladder at the round 18 mark. If that doesn't impress you then your a hard man to impress chippy!

Exactly, and as soon as he left...

Non acceptance is not buying a membership.

If AS was appointed President I have big doubts I would renew in 2014

Hutchy on FC said it was down to 5 for the MFC coaching job.

We can work out the first four but who is the fifth?

Hutchy probably said 5 cos he had one hand down his pants and could only see 5 digits on his other hand.

Or he just consumed 5 small children from some 3rd world country.

Such a [censored].

Don't read too much into that number. When he was pushed on it he couldn't even say ANY names, just that he didn't know...

And if enough members were to end their memberships with his appointment, I suppose the dip in revenues would be termed the "AS hole"?

Can't really be Eade because as far as i am aware Collingwood aren't letting us interview him, would be abit stupid to hire someone without having a formal interview.

From what I read a few weeks back both Eade and Williams are barred from any future coaching interviews until their respected team has finished it's season (including finals). This was something the AFLCA have put in place.

PJ has simply contacted their agents to touch base and to obviously have the message passed on that we are keen.

CLEAN HANDS by KC from Casey

The Casey Demons headed into town and up Sydney Road to take on the lowly Coburg Lions who have been perennial VFL easy beats and sitting on one win for the season. Last year, Casey beat them in a practice match when resting their AFL listed players. That’s how bad they were. Nobody respected them on Saturday and clearly not the Demons who came to the game with 22 players (ten MFC), but whether they came out to play is another matter because for the most part, their intensity was lacking an

    ALAS SPRINGS by Whispering Jack

I got the word on Saturday from someone who knows someone inside the Fremantle camp that the Dockers were pumped and supremely confident about getting the W the next day against Melbourne at TIO Traeger Park in the red heart of the country. I was informed that the Dockers were extremely confident for a number of reasons. They had beaten the Demons on their home territory at the MCG at their last two meetings so they didn’t see beating them at Alice Springs as a problem. They belie

    TROUBLE by The Oracle

Situated roughly in Australia's geographic centre, Alice Springs has for many years been a troubled town suffering from intermittent crime waves, particularly among its younger residents. There was a time a little while ago when things were so bad that some even doubted the annual AFL game in the town would proceed.  Now, the hope is that this Sunday’s Melbourne vs Fremantle encounter will bring joy to the residents of the town and that through the sport and the example of the participants,
