The club has been working hard on Roos since early in the season (fact). Naturally Roos could never admit this considering we had another coach under contract.

Things are much further advanced with Roos than is being admitted. Roos is seriously considering a move to the Dees. The bookmakers have odds of $5, the club considers the true odds to be more like even money.

Roos is the AFLs choice and no doubt they will help getting him over the line. How the club restructures itself, what personnel are recruited to the admin team will have an influence on his final decision.

Whilst I love the idea of a proven, premiership coach it is interesting that most of the premierships in recent years have gone to wealthy clubs with superior resources at their disposal. Given Melbourne run a leaner operation, I wonder whether we should be considering which available coach has punched above his weight the most. Williams and Eade for instance enjoyed success without nearly the same football department spend as Clarkson, Matthews or Roos. Perhaps this is a better indicator of a coaches true ability.

That said I'd be wrapped with Roos or Clarkson!!!

The board member is a personal friend. I don't think he knows I have loose lips, he would not be happy. I am the one in the wrong sharing this.

Nevertheless, he has been much harder to get info out of for the last month or so. I spent time with him on the weekend and there was no mention that Neeld had been sacked, even though I complained about Neelds performance and lack of board movement on him.

Agree here! We are the great coaching challenge..but we are also not as bad as we look...

We are the worst side in the comp at playing the game atm....but our list says the opposite....It is a very good list talent wise I believe! And other clubs/supporters know this!

A "great coach" now has the chance to take some bona fide talent and bring the DEMON back!!!!

We know the list is ok,not brilliant but its pretty stacked with talented young blokes who need to move away from the "Oh but we are a young side tag" To the next coach.....Please remove this BS stigma!!!!

Mate, I am not guaranteeing that we have him. Just confirming that the board has been working hard at getting Roos for at least 2 months and Roos has interest. By the way, I am no fan of the performance of the board, despite knowing one of the members personally. Ultimately they were responsible for MN hiring and the mess we are in now. No doubt there will be further departures to try and rectify this.

I was told a month ago by the mother of an ex syd CAPT that they thought Roos would be coach of Melb next year. This former Syd player would make a great midfield coach under Roos

whomever the new Senior coach is to be, he will definitely pick his team. Not to say thereby that there would be a total cleanout but thats often the case

Paul Roo's doesn't have a hard line approach, he builds characters and then it's up to them to work for him.

Roo's instills the qualities in individuals, qualities that are necessary to succeed.

Really impressive listening to Roo's on On the Couch.

As a commentator I can't stand Roo's - especially in Sydney games, but as a football mind and a bloke who knows organizations and how to build successful organizations, Roo's knows his stuff.

If we are to succeed in getting Roos to the club we will need to be able to afford to put in the FD that he would want.

I reckon if we can give him the FD he wants it may be the deal breaker. I think he would be more worried about those things than the exact amount he was paid.

I think the AFL will be happy to cover the FD bill. If we get the best coach in place, a great decision maker at the top (tick) and the FD structure right, with the best people in those positions, the wheel will start to turn. For the AFL this means: more competitive efforts from the MFC, increased membership for the MFC, increased matchday attendances and exciting games of football for their broadcasters. It makes sense and as WYL says, it's good governance.

Whatever we pay Roos we will get our money back and then some from memberships alone, not to mention the crowds we will pull if/when we start winning under him

I thought I read somewhere that all the coaches with the exception of Neil Craig come out of contract at the end of the year anyway...

Whoever comes in will have the license to pretty much chose their coaching panel. Neeld got that (with the exception of Royal who was contracted to the club)

Any coach is only to have influence on those beneath him.

What PJ might infer to him ( PR ) is the calibre and ilk of the new board. That might be not only prudent but essential to entice R'oos !

i think his prediction would have been taking into account the requirement that Roos'* involvement actually has a noticeable improvement on field.
