Personally, I think that Leigh Matthews could be the bloke we need. Strategically, he might have been left behind BUT the issue these days aren't about strategy. It's about blokes having pride in themselves and the jumper. It's about effort and fostering the habits that make a successful club. Leigh has this and more. I view him as a 'Barassi in Sydney' coach. A bloke with a profile who is there to sell hope and publicity to a club who desperately need both. I think Leigh would be smart enough to realize that this wouldn't be a 10 year arrangement and would make sure there would be a ready successor in the wings.

He's probably at the end of his run with West Coast. If they don't make the 8 or get bundled out early they'll be factions starting to say he's time is up......

But why would he want to coach us. You'd think he could get a cushy gig somewhere either at a club or in the media and not have to kill himself with stress.

The other thing is I know he's won a flag but I'm not sure I rate him as a great coach. He develops players to play tough one on one footy but I'm not sure he's amazing. At the moment he's got really good talls at either end and the best rucks in the league and there's something about the current West Coast team that looks a bit pedestrian for some reason.

Why did GWS overlook choco for the top job?

There's the rumour the original plan was for him to take over this year and not have to suffer through being Sheedy's deputy (when Sheedy would coach when he wanted). When Sheedy stayed on this year he said that's about enough for me I'll take the easy job at Richmond.

I also think whilst the AFL would like an experienced coach they probably didn't want too much of Choco's off the field antics. Leon Cameron is a much calmer head.

He'd coach us for a change and Money.

If you dont think hes a great coach I think your dreaming.

Chocos antics are always unknown. Not sure if the MFC is ready for someone to create more divisions in the club.

Well well well.

Looks like there may be a wealth of candidates out there.

If only half the following proven coaches are interested, we sure are positioned nicely to pick the right candidate.

Leigh Matthews

Paul Roos

Bomber Thompson

Choco Williams

Worsfold

Nb, if you havnt won a premiership, don't bother applying!!!

If not Roos then definitely Chocko for me. His record at an undermanned and resourced Port Adel is amazing. Got shafted by Sheedy at GWS and u could argue GWS have gone backwards this year since he left.

I've been told by a reliable source that Neeld is staying until the end of his 3 year contract.

My mail is that the players are behind Neeld and some are waiting to see if he will be allowed to continue the course before recommitting or possibly asking for a trade. Silvia, Chip, Watts.

Can anyone confirm a 5 year offer to a massive star of the future who is very pleased to be at the Club but yet to play a senior game? Furthermore, that he's also waiting to see what happens before making a decision?

Posted

Chocko had an awesome list. Roos got a list eade already got to a premiership.

neeld might not be going.

If Neeld is going to be allowed to see out his contract then why wouldn't the club publicly state this?

Posted (edited)

I'm joking. I think he is gawn but probably more to appease supporters.

why not just ask hogan and frawley who they want and go with that.

Ayres would be okay but so would Williams, Roos ideal but won't do it. What about Pagan or Harvey or Mathews, Sheedy,Eade and more. Wr just need an exoerienced coach who can motivate players.

It has been the way we have operated for years unfortunatley

A few posters here seem to think Neeld is going to continue. That's a surprising shift in sentiment I would have thought.

I'll restate what I've said before. Neeld should only be sacked now if keeping him is going to put players offside to the extent that key players may decide to leave the club. Otherwise, I can't see how replacing Neeld now actually benefits the club. Sure, it gets rid of some angst and allows us to find a sacrificial lamb, but what does a stand-in coach do for the next 12 rounds? On the other hand, if things have not improved by round 19, that's when it's time to act and start the process of selecting a new coach for 2014.

So you agree with Shane Crawford and what he wrote in the Age,

I was sat with a group of about 12 or 15 supporters yesterday, we had organised to go as a group, we all sat through the end, general consensus was yes it's horrible but let's just leave it and see what we see in the second half of the season, then everyone can have a breather and make the proper decision.....I want to see Clark and Dawes on the field together, with Grimes and Sylvia added to the middle mix

Demonland Trackwatchers braved the scorching morning heat to bring you the following observations of Wednesday's preseason training session from Gosch's Paddock. HARVEY WALLBANGER'S PRESEASON TRAINING OBSERVATIONS Absent: Salem, Windsor (word is a foot rash going around), Viney, Bowey and Kentfield Train ons: Roy George, no Culley today. MATCH SIM: Friday 7th February 2025

Demonland Trackwatcher Gator ventured down the freeway to bring you his observations from Friday morning's Match Simulation out at Casey Fields. Rehab: Jake Lever and Charlie Spargo running laps.  Lever was running short distances at a fast click as well as having kick to kick with a trainer. He seems unimpeded. Christian Petracca, Kade Chandler, Shane McAdam and Tom Fullarton doing non-contact kicking and handball drills on the adjacent oval.  All moving freely at pace.  I didn’

Demonland Trackwatchers were out in force as the Demons returned to Gosch's Paddock for preseason training on Wednesday morning. GHOSTWRITER'S PRESEASON TRAINING OBSERVATIONS Kozzie a no show. Tommy Sparrow was here last week in civvies and wearing sunnies. He didn’t train. Today he’s training but he’s wearing goggles so he’s likely got an eye injury. There’s a drill where Selwyn literally lies on top of Tracc, a trainer dribbles the ball towards them and Tracc has to g

THAT WAS THE YEAR THAT WAS: 2024

Whichever way you look at it, the Melbourne Football Club’s 2024 season can only be characterized as the year of its fall from grace. Whispering Jack looks back at the season from hell that was. After its 2021 benchmark premiership triumph, the men’s team still managed top four finishes in the next two seasons but straight sets finals losses consigned them to sixth place in both years. The big fall came in 2024 with a collapse into the bottom six and a 14th placing. At Casey, the 2022 VFL p
