I would actually contest Rhino's line about him coming in with his eyes open. He SHOULD have had his eyes open but now listening to those opening diatribes up till round 1's 'not on your life' speech, it's pretty clear it was all rhetoric. They were the words of a bloke who dealt in the theoretical side of how an AFL club should be run but they were also the words of a bloke who had never done it before and had no idea what was in front of him.

Theatrical???? He had worked at the Pies for 5 Yeats and was in charge of their midfield. He should have understood what he was coming into. It was a dangerous move. It was probably the least attractive coaching job in 2011 and he was not short listed for any others. He would have know what MFC was like before he joined. If he didn't it was the first of a host of misjudgements he has made.

And a stain on his résumé??? Look he isn't the first coach to b sacked and guess what he won't be the last. Ratten and Bailey have got successful assistant coaching roles at other clubs.

I think there is a difference between observing a job being done and actually doing it yourself. You can learn and observe all the kind of things from seasoned professionals but what that actually teaches you when you apply it to the real world varies. Ultimately, you are stuck with the cattle you have and you have to deal in reality, not dogma. For too long, MN has dealt in dogma about 'how we did it at Collingwood'. If he was going to be practical as opposed to theoretical, he should have noticed that our 'boys' (and I emphasize boys) didn't have the body shape or tanks to take on the Collingwood game plan from day one. The game plan should have been implemented progressively but he was too idealistic about what he wanted to achieve. (That's my two cents anyway).

I would also say that Bailey at least had a season that wasn't a complete trainwreck. And Ratts got the Blues into three finals series. A bit different to being a bloke who coaches 5 wins out of 31.

FCS, he has been in the coaching box for 5 years with Malthouse. It's hardly theoretical. He should know the game and the caper. His background was a reasonable pedigree to coach. He just can't have been that naive. That's notwithstanding that he can't coach.

Bailey had four poor years and had 186 on his head. Hardly a stain on him. Ratten was deemed a failure because he did not reach near success with so much talent. All of them have moved on with any "stains". Maybe you should to.

The only surprise in the presser was that it took 9 minutes and 20 seconds for the first "it is what it is". It wasn't our inability to handle Freo's pressure that was the issue in the first half it was our lack of applying pressure.
