Dylan Shiel

I'd rate Shiel around P5ish I would have thought. not up there with the Jeager O'meara's or Jack Martins.

I think Howe on footy ability + his drawcard ability in a new frontier, would clamber up to Shiels value.

I think Shiel's worth would be worth more than pick 5, given he's got those two seasons under the belt. But add Howe and pick 9 and you're right.

to be honest I reckon Howe is worth more than the difference between pick 9 and pick 5, especially in this year's draft, and especially to us.

The difference between pick 11 and pick 6 was pick 33 for Collingwood I think. I would want more than that for Howe; he is probably only worth pick 25-30 but I'd want a pick sub-20 because he is worth that to us.

I can't believe you people

Wanting to get rid of the one man that gave you something to get excited about all season, i saw someone say he is an average kick, no he kicks set shots and can kick them from anywhere, freak who will play 200+ games for us.

Shiels in my eyes isn't even worth pick 9.

Howe didn't get me excited this season. In fact, he continued to frustrate me. I saw through his one-trick, two seasons ago. But that's beside the point. He has currency and the hypothetical was raised - would you trade Howe for Shiel? My answer would be a resounding 'yes'.

There is a difference between set shots and field kicking.

And Howe's importance diminishes if he can't play up the ground because it will soon be Hogan's Forwardline in a couple years. And Clark needs a crumber not a high flyer in the meantime.

Howe needs to work hard and contribute in the middle.

Howe is a required player. Surely. As is Frawley. Clearly.

And Shiel is at GWS. That I know.

As an aside, I'd be amazed if any club would trade even a second round pick for Blease. Despite the odd really good highlight piece, he can't run out a game. Hopefully his value will improve under Roos, and he will finally realise his potential.

Howe's kicking is indeed average. In fact, it might not even be that.

I don't think that makes him someone we should be trading (not even close, to be honest), but he's not a good kick.

His set shot kicking really improved last year. The only other player I've seen make more improvement was Robbo.

Watch some of Mitch Clark's goal kicking attempts from his early Brisbane days. His accuracy for us thus far has been a revelation.

Win-win then, isn't it Yeata? ;)

I wouldn't trade Howe & P9 for Shiel its way overs IMO.

I'd rather get into Adams with P9 & a player,,, than give both Howe & P9 for Dylan Shiel. thats giving away 2 potential topend players for 1.

P9 +, for Shiel or Adams, Or we should use the pick in this Draft.

I was referring to his field kicking, sorry. Should have been clearer with that.

It definitely did improve. I still feel he over-kicks the ball sometimes, but it's not as bad as it was last year.

Dunn's in a similar boat. He kicks at goal quite well, but his field kicking is no good.

Hmm I come on here thinking there will be info on Shiel only to find we are talking about Howe..

I don't think we should trade Howe (favorite player) and potentially a player like Nathan Freeman or Dom Sheed for Dylan Shiel, who i think is overrated.

It doesn't.

And for those wanting 'the latest' on Shiel; he is not coming, we have no picks for him, he is contracted.

End of story.

show improvement next year and that we are back in business and the likes of Dylan Shiel will be begging to come to us to play under Roos, Stone and the rest

He's a beautiful kick.

Mitch Clark has been remarkably accurate shooting for goal for the Demons.

BUT..........I'm fearful that he will not continue to kick so straight. He has a marked hook-foot ,swinging across , rather than through, the ball. So far the timing of his connection with the ball has been excellent, and the ball has flown straight. There is very little margin for error.

I hope like hell I'm wrong, and I pray we'll get 25 games out of him this year!

THE ACCIDENTAL DEMONS by The Oracle

In the space of eight days, the Melbourne Football Club’s plans for the coming year were turned upside down by two season-ending injuries to players who were contending strongly for places in its opening round match against the GWS Giants. Shane McAdam was first player to go down with injury when he ruptured an Achilles tendon at Friday afternoon training, a week before the cut-off date for the AFL’s pre-season supplemental selection period (“SSP”). McAdam was beginning to get some real mom

RETURN TO NORMAL by Whispering Jack

One of my prized possessions is a framed, autographed guernsey bearing the number 31 worn by my childhood hero, Melbourne’s champion six time premiership player Ronald Dale Barassi who passed away on 16 September 2023, aged 87. The former captain who went on to a successful coaching career, mainly with other clubs, came back to the fold in his later years as a staunch Demon supporter who often sat across the way from me in the Northern Stand of the MCG cheering on the team. Barassi died the
