Dom Barry

Watching him on the Robbo show I was actually quite impressed in how well he speaks for a young man. No hint of nerves but I thought the way he spoke he looked to have a bit of leadership with him.

Anyways for people that have been watching Casey how is this young mans progress going? Does he look to have a future with us?

Cheers

Haven't been watching but from the reports he's been bouncing between the ones and twos.

In the twos he gets lots of ball.

In the seniors he's finding some ball (probably averaging 15 or so touches) but needs to work on contested ball and defensive work.

What's impressed me is even when he's not had a great game he's bobbed up with a goal. So that's a nice sign

I love this kid. Has a lot of work to do on his positioning, skills, and tank, but he is not as skinny as people would have you believe and does not take a backward step. He really is a Michael Long type, the long arms and the way he attacks a contest. He won't play AFL this year IMO, but would guess he'll play 5-6 games next year and then start to really find his feet.

Dom Barry has footy smarts. But too light, needs more pace and intensity. Still a way to go before his selection is seen as a positive.

IMO his pace is fine-he just needs to get up to speed mentally. And that will come. He has gone when it's been his turn as well. Will be very good if the coaches don't destroy him

I doubt if we'll see him play a game until next year some time, but he seems to have pace and a pretty good short game. I haven't seen him kicking many long balls, so hard to tell what he's like at 50m or so. I've loved some of his clever passing which shows that he has a pretty good eye for spotting a teammate in traffic. My one concern there is that AFL is much faster and his little chips could be intercepted if he isn't careful.

Young demons just have to make their own way at the moment. There is no onfield leadership at this club

You watch the Swans and you realise how it could be if we had a footy club unfortunately we dont and the players dont want to paly at all

Makes we sick to watch our players not playing for each other

Mods, can we delete this post as it has absolutely nothing to do with the topic. There are enough threads attacking the club without trying to hijack one about a specific player.

Can we all just do one thing? If he plays and doesn't set the world on fire straight away, can we all not go calling for him to be de-listed? We have established he is a development player that is showing some nice signs but isn't quite there just yet.

Some may not like to admit it, but this has and will stifle player development unless and until we unearth some real on field leaders.

I am sure some already have their fingers poised on the keyboard, waiting for his first game, or indeed the end of his first season without a game........"dud"..."spud".....<insert any other offensive term> etc etc

That is what I am worried about.

I'm with you, but I'm not holding high hopes.

Really? Who doesn't like to admit it?

I'm fairly confident most, if not all, MFC supporters are aware of this fact, and accept it.

Anyone know why we went for Barry over Jed Anderson?

Think we need to stop recruiting names starting with J

and Barry is just a great name don't you think

Another dud spud wasted pick.

Not that I would expect a boy like you to understand the finer points of... well, anything, but technically speaking we didn't spend a pick on him individually, he was part of the Dawes Hogan package.

    FROZEN by Whispering Jack

Who would have thought?    Collingwood had a depleted side with several star players out injured, Max Gawn was in stellar form, Christian Petracca at the top of his game and Simon Goodwin was about to pull off a masterstroke in setting Alex Neal-Bullen onto him to do a fantastic job in subduing the Magpies' best player. Goody had his charges primed to respond robustly to the challenge of turning around their disappointing performance against Fremantle in Alice Springs. And if not that, t

    TURNAROUND by KC from Casey

The Casey Demons won their first game at home this year in the traditional King’s Birthday Weekend clash with Collingwood VFL on Sunday in a dramatic turnaround on recent form that breathed new life into the beleaguered club’s season. The Demons led from the start to record a 52-point victory. It was their highest score and biggest winning margin by far for the 2024 season. Under cloudy but calm conditions for Casey Fields, the home side, wearing the old Springvale guernsey as a mark of res

    BOILED LOLLIES by The Oracle

In the space of a month Melbourne has gone from chocolates to boiled lollies in terms of its standing as a candidate for the AFL premiership.  The club faces its moment of truth against a badly bruised up Collingwood at the MCG. A win will give it some respite but even then, it won’t be regarded particularly well being against an opponent carrying the burden of an injured playing list. A loss would be a disaster. The Demons have gone from a six/two win/loss ratio and a strong percentag

CLEAN HANDS by KC from Casey

The Casey Demons headed into town and up Sydney Road to take on the lowly Coburg Lions who have been perennial VFL easy beats and sitting on one win for the season. Last year, Casey beat them in a practice match when resting their AFL listed players. That’s how bad they were. Nobody respected them on Saturday and clearly not the Demons who came to the game with 22 players (ten MFC), but whether they came out to play is another matter because for the most part, their intensity was lacking an
