Landing Thomas would be the ideal result for us. Neeld said last year that he was one A grad midfielder short of what he wanted, and this would fit the bill nicely. He is in the rigth age bracket, has the experience and skills we need and gets on well with our coach.

Aside from this, does anyone know what Pendlebury's contract status is?

We would have to offer an ABLETT like deal just to get a look in.

I think we'll have a fair bit of free coin at years end, looks to me like Frawley, Sylvia and Watts will leave. Davey will be pushed with Gilles, Rodan. Frawley will be a massive hit, it shows how much of a gaping hole Rivers left, but once Chip leaves our defense will screwed!

Interesting that Frawley will be gone with a year still to run on his contract.

Anyone know where to get a full list of when our players' contracts run out?

No it's not, it's the actual truth, nice of you to think so, though I am not surprised, you being you

you are actually sickened and disgusted with that comment made on an internet forum?

Yes I can be, because it is some hero putting a bulge in his trousers coz he thinks he has made a smart comment about a player (hopefully the poster is male), I want to see him/her say it to Col Sylvia's face

Found it on BigFooty. Handy little thread.

Looks like we need to get signatures from Evans, Gawn, Jetta, Watts, Sylvia and Fitzpatrick, assuming we want to keep them all at the club. There are others, but they won't be getting attention from other clubs, so are perhaps less of an issue in that respect.

Considering Frawley and Watts would have to walk via PSD or be traded I wouldn't say we would be screwed. If clubs close to a premiership were willing to pay overs we could use it bring in some midfield talent complemented by the draft. Would also free up some F.A coin to get a consistent established midfielder (would take Thomas in a heart beat).

At this stage, I would not say either of those two are irreplaceable.

Isn't Watts contract expires this year? so that means he is free to walk to which ever team he wants?

You have to be at a club 8 years to qualify as a free agent. Watts has been with us for 5 by seasons end.

Watts might make a decent bit of trade bait, Frawley i think we should do what we can to keep, quality full backs are worth their weight in gold.

I disagree. From what I've heard about Dale Thomas, all we'd have to do is offer more than anyone else.

Posted

I think we need to target 2 free agents,,, that we can afford, not 1....lets not go for the highest priced player but for leadership & depth...

So, 1 of Adam Selwood/Andrew Carrazzo. offer out big $$$$ to these guys, to see if we can shake one loose.

.. then also go for Mark Lecras as well. (I'd consider a trade)

I agree, we need to bolster our leadership & culture thru midfield drivers. imo this will help with our kids development coming thru.

I'd like to see us also look at other trades, after the 2 free agents.

With the last five years of front ending and the simple fact that we have roughly TEN fewer established players than most clubs, we have salary cap space that would fit just about anyone, or anythree, really.

Knowing that we could make multiple offers and still be able to cover them even if they all agreed at once, we should be putting good offers in front of every conceivably available quality midfielder in the league.

Even if we don't manage to collect anyone, the worst that can happen is that we put salary cap pressure on every other team and increase our chances of shaking one loose at the end of 2014, by which time we will have even more salary cap space following more front-ending time.

Imagine if in one hit, we acquired Thomas, Zaharakis, and Kennedy (Sydney's). Everything looks very different all of a sudden.

That might be dreamonland, but we have to be hunting for all the quality we can get.

Sorry Chook, my comment was with regards to Pendles contract status. With Davey gone at years end we should have plenty to throw around.

Adam Selwood? he is past it in a big way. He'd make rodan look like the recruit of the decade

Mark LeCras wont be going anywhere IMO, but i agree he is a quality player we should atleast make a play for

yeah , heaven forbid we get a proven 25 year old star with a wealth of finals experience under his belt already

i mean, what difference could he possibly make to our team?

Byrnes is a premiership player from a great culture...not sure yet of his on field leadership from what I have seen.

i dont want the MFC to become a retirement village for Pies players who want to finish their careers on big pay cheques!

Not sure if Dale Thomas would make much of a difference to our side anyway, would prefer to target 2-3 guys who are younger and a rung below Thomas, but who could come into their prime at the Dee's. Guys like Prestia or some of the other Gold Coast mids with a few years under their belts or maybe even older guys like Foley from the tigers who still has a few years left in him but cant get a run ?

i don't see the fasination everyone on this this site has with Prestia

stiff [censored] if he comes from a passionate demons supporter family, there are better player in his age bracket we should be targeting

Hero :)

Cheers thanks man. That just made my day.

I do like to state my thoughts, but if just saying that comment is making me a hero, than that is really awesome.

According to a member of the floreat pica (?) group, Daisy has a very close relationship with Pendlebury and because of the fractured relationship with his own father saw MickM as a father figure. Was not that close to Neeld.

He reckons thomas will either stay or go to the blues.

Posted

Strangely enough looking at the free agents list Ben Johnson from the pies a hard running defender could really help and lead our defence for a year or 2. I know he is 31 32 but could really show the way for the other guys. Would like Alan Toovey but his knee reco could be a bit of an issue and I doubt the pies would let Thomas Johnson and Toovey all go at once.

You've got to be kidding!! Don't you remember who perpetrated that vicious assault on Daniel Bell?

Jesus, draft BS has arrived early this year. Tossers kicking back and saying "get player1, player2" and so on. FFS

If Thomas goes anywhere, it will be to the blues/Malthouse. Already speculation in the press.

UP IN LIGHTS by Whispering Jack

Those who watched the 2024 Marsh AFL National Championships closely this year would not be particularly surprised that Melbourne selected Victoria Country pair Harvey Langford and Xavier Lindsay on the first night of the AFL National Draft. The two left-footed midfielders are as different as chalk and cheese but they had similar impacts in their Coates Talent League teams and in the National Championships in 2024. Their interstate side was edged out at the very end of the tournament for tea
