The game clashes with the Casey game - it was either he played for Casey or he wasn't an emergency. However there may be a late change.

Someone has to cop it - not everyone can and Watts lacks aggression so I am happy with that. Even leaving him out of the side sends a message

Watts is number one on the list of players who could use a run with Casey.

Why drop him then give him a week off?

Unless he's carrying an injury, it's dumb player management of a player screaming for confidence and touch.

Why was he an emergency in the first place? Either don't drop him, or play him at Casey to gain confidence. He now sits on the sidelines this weekend and achieves nothing. He gains no confidence or touch, and gains no experience or chance to redeem himself being out there in the red and blue.

Awful management. Even blind freddie can see that!

Yeah it sends a message that we have no confidence in him, and he has no opportunity to gain any confidence this weekend.

Shouldn't have been an emergency, should have played for Casey.

Agreed. Absolutely stupid if he ends up not playing at all.

It's all about the effort. Margin is irrelevant, whether we win, lose by 1 or by 100, whatever. We just need to show a four-quarter effort.

spot on

Toumpas as sub is a good start at least.

is he any good? hardly seen any of him. impact player perhaps?

I don't know about anyone else, but I'm as nervous as hell. I just want to see effort and more of an idea as to how we want to play going forward. Fingers crossed.

I do think its stupid having Watts not playing this week and do agree that he should be playing for Casey - I just think Neeld has tried to field the best team this week and he thinks that means naming Watts as an emergency

Hasn't seen enough of it in the first two games to showcase his talent, but he's been thrown in the deep end, to put it mildly. I'd prefer to see him have a few weeks in the magoos against the bigger bodies to find his feet. Showed signs during the NAB Cup that he has the skills and composure of the elite players, but you have to get your hands on the footy first. It will take him sometime to adjust to this level, but he'll get there if developed correctly...they best not stuff this one up as well..

Watts has to play for Casey, it makes absolutely no sense to drop him for poor performance and then not give him a chance to recover his form, that would mean you really could not play him against GWS. The only reason you would do that is to punish him and the team and the supporters. Toumpas is probably a good choice for sub, he comes in later in the game when others are bit tired and provides some fresh run, it takes some of the pressure off him. If the players are up for it, and the westcoast is coming in coasting then I think we have an outside chance.

any radio coverage /?

Triple M.

they're talking about the Watts situation right now, everyone agreeing he should have been able to play VFL today.

I just hope the melbourne players remember the last time we played, we got slaughtered with the high tackle count. Our players are likely to be running out there with a bit of agro, i hope they channel it constructively so that we just dont give them easy free kicks. The eagles are already the masters of milking high tackles, one day the AFL is going to have to accept responsibility for health issues arising from players constantly ducking to get tackled high because the AFL rewards such behavior.

We're being slaughtered in the tackle count but we're winning the possession count.

Demonland Trackwatchers braved the sweltering heat to bring you their Preseason Training observations from Gosch's Paddock on Monday morning. SCOOP JUNIOR'S PRESEASON TRAINING OBSERVATIONS I went down today in what were pretty ordinary conditions - hot and windy. When I got there, they were doing repeat simulations of a stoppage on the wing and then moving the ball inside 50. There seemed to be an emphasis on handballing out of the stoppage, usually there were 3 or 4 handballs to

WAYNE WUSSELL'S PRESEASON TRAINING OBSERVATIONS Rehab: Lever, Spargo, McAdam, Lindsay, Brown Sinnema is excellent by foot and has a decent vertical leap. Windsor is training with the Defenders. BEST OF THE REST by Meggs

Meggs' Review of Melbourne's AFLW Season 9 ... Congratulations first off to the North Melbourne Kangaroos on winning the 2024 AFLW Premiership. Roos Coach Darren Crocker has assembled a team chock-full of competitive and highly skilful players who outclassed the Brisbane Lions in the Grand Final to remain undefeated throughout Season 9. A huge achievement in what was a dominant season by North. For Melbourne fans, the season was unfortunately one of frustration and disappointment
