James Sellar

Keep todays performance up all year and we will be laughing! great effort even though its a NAB cup i hope this is a confidence booster for him and show us exactly why he was a highly rated teenager couple of years ago. Would have to be a lock for round 1 and ahead of pedersen atleast?

NAB cup form on a regional ground in early March?

When he does it on the 'G in June I'll be more convinced. He always looked like he's a battler to me.

He is a "Melbourne regular", after all:

What he does do is hit the contest hard. It's what I noticed at last years intra at Casey, both him and Clark cleaned up anyone in their way. He might not of got the results Clark did and he may not be the player he is but he does throw himself into a contest.

I hope today is a sign of a turnaround in his career.

Sellar has been training in the back line all pre season. I'm not sure where he will line up round 1. He was serviceable down back last year. Maybe kicking 5 today came from a improved rebounding out of defense. Or I can put it down to playing port.

He was playing on Trengove, a highly respected back... so, no matter how you look at it, it was a good effort regardless of whether it was NAB or AFL.

No doubt it was a great effort. I'm just trying to figure out where sellar fits into our 22. He will play round 1 but it may be down back.

Sellar is better in the Ruck than some of our ruckmen (I have the tapes to prove it!) He is a good endurance athlete and he is not afraid to throw his body in (take note Fitzpatrick). He also seems injury free these days. He can play back and, obvious after today, forward. Makes it on interchange at least. Go JS!

I'd lean towards "somewhat respected". :)

Did well and provided something to think about though. Not getting too excited until he can produce something similar in the real stuff. Don't forget he's also ex-Adelaide, and we were playing Port..

Sellar didn't have a full preseason at AFL level and whilst he kept in shape and trained at Sanfl level it might be the extra difference. I still think he's at his best as a gorilla keeper defender with good size and skill. However he provides another option with Pedersen for back up ruck so the more competition the better.

Sellar is a much better ruck option than Pedersen, if he can kick goals then Pedersen will find it hard to take that spot when Clark is back.

One should not forget that Sellar was originally a top ten draft pick (No. 8 for Adelaide). I am pleased to see him play forward instead of back and let Gillies, Davis and Pererson help out back there if they need another tall to back up McDonald, Garland and Co.

Well first round (and Adelaide's first pick). Just happy to see him have a good day out and playing forward.

Sellar is no world beater, never has been never will be. But given he is capable of holding his own in multiple positions, I think his net worth is a little underrated.

Essentially he was brought in as depth to replace Matthew Warnock. That's a definite tick for for the brains trust.

Everybody, calm down. we all know Sellar isnt a good AFL footballer. So he got a bag in a 2nds match in Renmark in early march. Lets settle down and keep some perspective.

Nobody needs to calm down munga, because nobody is going over the top. He is currently borderline best 22, and yesterday may have put him in front of pedersen.

    DERAILMENT by KC from Casey

It wasn’t quite a trainwreck although at times, it sure looked like one, so I’ll settle for “derailment”.  The trip to Brighton Homes Arena in Springfield outside the back of Brisbane might not exactly be the same place where Homer Simpson’s family resides but, if you listened closely to the utterances of the Casey Demons fans both at the ground or watching via livestream, you could hear lots of groaning and plenty of expressions of “D'oh!” reverberating in the background, particular

TEN YEARS AFTER by Whispering Jack

Things have changed in the more than ten years since the West Coast Eagles decimated Melbourne by 93 points on the MCG early in the 2014 season. The two sides had not met at the home of football in the interim until yesterday when Melbourne won by a comfortable 54 points to remain in contention for this year’s finals series. Back in those days, the Demons were in the midst of their Great Depression but they have since tasted premiership glory and experienced a long enough period among

GAMEDAY: Rd 17 vs West Coast

It’s game day and the Demons return to Melbourne to play the Eagles at the MCG for the first time in over a decade. A win keeps the Dees finals hopes alive whereas a loss will almost certainly slam the finals window shut.

    CROSSROADS by The Oracle

Melbourne stands at the crossroads.  Sunday’s game against the West Coast Eagles who have not met the Demons at the MCG in more than ten years, is a make or break for the club’s finals aspirations.  That proposition is self-evident since every other team the club will be opposed to over the next eight weeks of footy is a prospective 2024 finalist. To add to this perspective is the fact that while the Demons are now in twelfth position on the AFL table, they are only a game and a half b

    DELUGE by KC from Casey

The Casey Demons overcame their inaccuracy and the wet inhospitable conditions to overrun the lowly Northern Bullants at Genis Steel Oval in Cramer Street, Preston on Saturday. It was an eerie feeling entering the ground that in the past hosted many VFA/VFL greats of the past including the legendary Roy Cazaly. The cold and drizzly rain and the sparse crowd were enough to make one want to escape to the nearby Preston Market and hang out there for the afternoon. In the event, the fans

    INSANITY by Whispering Jack

Somehow, the Melbourne Football Club managed it twice in the course of a week. Coach Simon Goodwin admitted it in his press conference after the loss against the Brisbane Lions in a game where his team held a four goal lead in the third term:   "In reality we went a bit safe. Big occasion, a lot of young players playing. We probably just went into our shell a bit. "There's a bit to unpack in that last quarter … whether we go into our shells a bit late in the game."   Well
