Luke Tapscott - Another one of BP's Specials?

Wanted to see peoples thoughts on Luke, so far in my opinion he has not made the grade.

Sure it is good to add some brute and mongrel in the team but if they are unable to effect the actual scoreline by doing it then I do not see much point to having it in the team.

I know he has had some injuries however so has many other players such as Blease, Evans and Jetta who are showing obvious signs of putting in the hard yards to make the cut.

I hope he can turn things around this year because I think if he doesn't then Trenners may be at risk of losing his mate.

i believe he is being played out of position and should be moved to play the Paul Chapman role. As a juniour he played his footy in the forward pocket and was a deadly kick for goal. Obviously he does not have the pace of other small forwards but has a good set of hands and goal sense

Brace yourself for the "we should've picked up Nate Fyfe or Ryan Bastinac" posters.

I love Tappy. I would love for him to have a period of time where he has no injuries, and is given a specific role in the forward half, and given 6-8 weeks to show he can do it.

Why do you love him?

He is yet to prove himself in my opinion

What do you mean 'prove' he's played nearly 30 games, agreed he has not set the world on fire but neither has Bastinace and Fyfe has been a bit all over the place, maybe all three will finally crack it this year as they have also all had injury issues

(Nice to see Clint also managed to squeeze Sylvia into a Tapscott thread, try just making a doll and stick pins into it Clint)

Good topic this one. I was a big Tapscott fan from when we first drafted him up until about mid-last year. I have cooled quite a bit on him though, because he has done nothing of worth on the football field. I am still waiting............. He doesn't get it enough to have much of an impact. He showed some good signs against Adelaide in round 21? last year during the first quarter, but then did nothing afterwards (similar to the rest of the team though).

He needs to find consistency as well as consistent ball, but then again so does the rest of our team (i guess that's why we are where we are).

I love his size and he can be quite physical at times (which we all love) and would like to see more of it, all be it controlled. His hit on Reece Shaw was a thing of beauty, but other than that, he hasn't done too much else. Time for him to step-up or just be another could've-been.

Disagree with the negative slant about Tappy in the title of this thread. We waited until late last year to see an injury free Blease and he is a mouth watering prospect for this year - even if he has another minor injury.

I want Tappy to be given (earn) 8 - 10 games, in the forward line playing a Chappy-type role. We have bemoaned our kicking skills for 4-5 years or more, and this bloke is a seriously good kick. With him, Strauss, Dunn, Watts, Clark and now also Toumpas we have kicking ability. Don't just look at Tappy's muscles and expect him to be Rod Grinter. Watch his football when he is injury free, hoping that he can be some time soon.

At this stage he is probably not in our best 22 but I would like him to be.

Tapscott will end up a better player than Bastinac.

And if Fyfe's shoulders keep going, he might be done early as well.

Fyfe has been a bit all over the place?? Certainly has based on his output and star qualities...!

Re: Clint/Sylvia - Satyriconhome - are you paranoid or annoyed everytime someone has an opinion of a player that doesn't agree with you? I'd suggest you let it go before you do your head in, the season hasn't even started yet.

Jury is definately out on Tapscott.

But he can kick a ball, so i hope he comes up with the right stuff..

But to many injuries for mine so far, i wonder if his body is up for it..

His hip & shoulder of Rhys Shaw is his one highlight thus far..

It is a good one so i do hope he makes it....

I hate Deeland sometimes. The OP is posing the question on where Tapscott is at heading into this season based on past output, a legitimate question, and certain posters have this compulsive need to belittle and sound clever. Pull your heads in. Or out, as the case may be.

I was praising Sylvia you peanut, saying that he and Tapscott have all the ingredients to be very good players.

One of stupidest posts I have seen on here, that's an achievement.

I hate Demonland sometimes when posters start suggesting we cut players before the season has even started. Especially young players who have battled unlucky injuries.

By all means give it to the guys who have had fair chance, but I'm sick of this bad baby hunting.

Suggest we cut players? LOL

You twisted my words, well done mate. Well done.

The jury is still out imo ......... 2013 will be crucial year for Tappy. Ask again in October.

    GETAWAY by Meggs

Calling all fit players. Expect every available Melbourne player to board the Virgin cross-continent flight to Perth for this Round 4 clash on Saturday afternoon at Fremantle Oval. It promises to be keenly contested, though Fremantle is the bookies clear favourite.  If we lose, finals could be remoter than Rottnest Island especially following on from the Dees 50-point dismantlement by North Melbourne last Sunday.  There are 8 remaining matches, over the next 7 weeks.  To Meggs’

    DRUBBING by Meggs

With Casey Fields basking in sunshine, an enthusiastic throng of young Demons fans formed a guard of honour for the evergreen and much admired 75-gamer Paxy Paxman. As the home team ran out to play, Paxy’s banner promised that the Demons would bounce back from last week’s loss to Brisbane and reign supreme.   Disappointingly, the Kangaroos dominated the match to win by 50 points, but our Paxy certainly did her bit.  She was clearly our best player, sweeping well in defence.

    GARNER STRENGTH by Meggs

In keeping with our tough draw theme, Week 3 sees Melbourne take on flag favourites, North Melbourne, at Casey Fields this Sunday at 1:05pm.  The weather forecast looks dry, a coolish 14 degrees and will be characteristically gusty.  Remember when Casey Fields was considered our fortress?  The Demons have lost two of their past three matches at the Field of Dreams, so opposition teams commute down the Princes Highway with more optimism these days.  The Dees held the highe

    ALLY’S FIELDS by Meggs

It was a sunny morning at Casey Fields, as Demon supporters young and old formed a guard of honour for fan favourite and 50-gamer Alyssa Bannan.  Banno’s banner stated the speedster was the ‘fastest 50 games’ by an AFLW player ever.   For Dees supporters, today was not our day and unfortunately not for Banno either. A couple of opportunities emerged for our number 6 but alas there was no sizzle.   Brisbane atoned for last week’s record loss to North Melbourne, comprehensively out

    GOOD MORNING by Meggs

If you are driving or training it to Cranbourne on Saturday, don’t forget to set your alarm clock. The Melbourne Demons play the reigning premiers Brisbane Lions at Casey Fields this Saturday, with the bounce of the ball at 11:05am.  Yes, that’s AM.   The AFLW fixture shows deference to the AFL men’s finals games.  So, for the men it’s good afternoon and good evening and for the women it’s good morning.     The Lions were wounded last week by 44 points, their highest ever los

    HORE ON FIRE by Meggs

The 40,000 seat $319 million redeveloped Kardinia Park Stadium was nowhere near capacity last night but the strong, noisy contingent of Melbourne supporters led by the DeeArmy journeyed to Geelong to witness a high-quality battle between two of the best teams in AFLW.   The Cats entered the arena to the blasting sounds of Zombie Nation and made a hot start kicking the first 2 goals. They brought tremendous forward half pressure, and our newly renovated defensive unit looked shaky.

    REMATCH by Meggs

The Mighty Demons take on the confident Cats this Saturday night at the recently completed $319 million redeveloped GMHBA Stadium, with the bounce of the ball at 7:15pm. Our last game of 2023 was an agonisingly close 5-point semi-final loss to Geelong, and we look forward to Melbourne turning the tables this week. Practice match form was scratchy for both teams with the Demons losing practice matches to Carlton and Port Adelaide, while the Cats beat Collingwood but then lost to Essendo

    WELCOME 2024 by Meggs

It’s been hard to miss the seismic global momentum happening in Women’s sport of late. The Matildas have been playing to record sell-out crowds across Australia and ‘Mary Fowler is God’ is chalked onto footpaths everywhere. WNBA basketball rookie sensation Caitlin Clark has almost single-handedly elevated her Indiana Fever team to unprecedented viewership, attendances and playoffs in the USA.   Our female Aussie Paris 2024 Olympians won 13 out of Australia’s all-time record 18 gol

    EPILOGUE by Whispering Jack

I sit huddled in near darkness, the only light coming through flickering embers in a damp fireplace, the room in total silence after the thunderstorm died. I wonder if they bothered to restart the game.  No point really. It was over before it started. The team’s five star generals in defence and midfield ruled out of the fray, a few others missing in action against superior enemy firepower and too few left to fly the flag for the field marshal defiantly leading his outnumbered army int
