WJ never thought I would see the day when I disagree with you, but this is one of the problems about this board now and agan, 2 posters hijacking the topic to discuss a player who is not even with us, I don't care if he wins the Brownllow this season, the only problem with that is I will have to have one of my self imposed exiles as the board fills with vitriol blaming everybody from the CEO to the boot studder for trading him.

Must we continually revisit the past...new season...whole new bal game....

As I said in nnother post

AAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH!!!!!!!!!!!....there I feel better now

I know what you mean, but you don't need to open a thread you don't like. I did a quick scan and not including pinned threads there are 27 active threads on the main page of which I've opened 12. One of the threads has 4,000 posts and I've not once clicked onto it, as I have zero interest in the topic.

I agree with you BH, key is to stay away.

Think he's referring to here that the topic is Training Monday the 1st and there's 2 pages of two posters talking Jordie Gysberts. One thing to ignore a topic but when feuds end up taking over every topic it can get brain numbing...

I couldn't get to training so I was looking for a report, I skipped the majority of the posts after reading the first one on Gysberts, I usually read anything WJ has to say, hence my post

I agree. A training report shouldn't be derailed.

I don't really give a rat's about Gysberts either but if it were true that he suddenly changed his attitude and was training the house down (which I and a few others here doubt), it would reflect poorly on our own football department which obviously failed to achieve that.

If true, it clearly is a matter of concern for Melbourne and in that respect, I don't view the issue as being irrelevant to or derailing a training thread - especially on a slow news day (before RR thankfully provided his report).

I see the Gysberts trade as one of Neeld's Moneyball plays. We needed Pedersen. He was more important to our needs than Gysberts, and Neeld went for it.

I expect Gysberts may ultimately prove to be a pretty good pick up for North. Similarly I have reasonably high hopes for Pedersen at the Dees.

I cannot beleive that discussion about the posters getting off the thread to talk about Gysberts are themselves filling up a whole page. Can somebody else post some info about training on Friday which is what I opened it to seek?

Think we'll just leave the whole conversation up and let Demonland make up it's own mind.

Btw I never said Barry was no good, I said he was the definition of a risk.

I bloody love you stuie :)

Haha we do disagree, but that's the fun of Demonland! Onya Sloonie!

Didn't boomer get criticised for saying last year that the younger blokes need to step up and play better footy? Of course he is going to say Gys is training the house down.

I didn't mind the Gysberts posts, it's a valid discussion. In the Training thread? On one hand hard to justify, but on the other, we don't want new micro-threads every time there's the least Melb-based subject that anyone wants to bring up.

Perhaps someone could start a kind of holding thread for ex-Melbourne players (still playing), that we can add to when the need to discuss Gysberts and his friends arises.

There's a report in today's Herald Sun (no link available) that contains an overview of every club's pre-season - Scouting Report.

On Melbourne, in summary:-

Track Stars: Dan Nicholson & Tom McDonald the stand outs.

Cotton Wool: Mitch Clark, Jack Trengove and Max Gawn - all are being given plenty of recovery time & Mitch wants to play in Round 1 but the Demons won't rush.

Remember this kid: Mature aged Matt Jones could make an instant impact as could Dean Terlich.

Pass the Baton: Tom Gillies (who the Cats once were grooming to cover for Scarlo) to replace Jared Rivers.

What's changed: a third of the list.

Nothing earth shattering or new but something to chew on nevertheless as we close in on the start of a new season.

Was disenchanted at not getting a game, wanted a fresh start.

Thought he was playing good footy at Casey with no reward in the senior team.

Also said Moloney should have been captain and that Grimes & Trenners were too young.

Obviously didn't buy in....

Not a bad kid, very shy and socialized with mates from outside the club.

IMO won't make it, mentally weak.

May have been as simple as he didn't buy in fully to neelds plans or neeld and co didn't see him in their vision of the future, nothing against him or his habbits. I really hope he does show everyone what sorta talent he has at North, but i also hope pederson shows he was a good target for us as well.

So, if one is interested in hearing about what is going on at training, but couldn't care less about lazy Gys, do you open the Training thread or not?

That is why some are complaining about the thread being hijacked.

Moloney as captain - incredible!

The legendary Blind Freddie could have told you that Beamer wasn't fit to captain the side.

Not after the nightclub incident that saw him dropped from the leadership group in 2011. I reckon if Bailey and the rest of the leadership had the nuts to do the right thing by the club and by themselves, he should have received a 2 - 4 week suspension from the team.

You're right about the mentally weak part.

Fair dinkum. The training session was yesterday morning and it's 1½ days after the event.

If you were that interested you would know by now that there are only a few brief reports and some great photos on 'Land and that's about all you're going to get until Monday when the next session will presumably take place somewhere.

Be patient.

Because he weighs as much as my left calf and is eons off having a body to compete in AFL. Anything can happen between now and the time he has a body to become a regular. Definition of a gamble.

If your left calf weighs 70Kg I have one word.

Fatso.

I think he had one game last year in the seniors...late in the season...a chance to prove his worth ...and he got 9 possessions. That game helped to end his career at the club.

If every player who had a poor game had their career ended there wouldn't be many players left...

Neeld has no patience for fools. Gys may come good at Norf. He has considerable skills. Can he apply them and buy in to Scott's plan? I hope he can, but he couldn't at Melbourne, and that's about all I care for.

I'm guessing that most players get on the sauce a bit on the weekends, so that's not unusual. Not great, but not uncommon.

    WILDCARDS by KC from Casey

Casey’s season continued to drift into helplessness on Sunday when they lost another home game by a narrow margin, this time six points, in their Round 13 clash with North Melbourne’s VFL combination. The game was in stunning contrast to their last meeting at the same venue when Casey won the VFL Wildcard Match by 101 points. Back then, their standout players were Brodie Grundy and James Jordon who are starring in the AFL with ladder leaders, the Sydney Swans (it turned out to be their last

    LIFE SUPPORT by Whispering Jack

With Melbourne’s season hanging on a thread, Saturday night’s game against North Melbourne unfolded like a scene in a hospital emergency department.  The patient presented to the ward in a bad way. Doctors and nurses pumped life-saving medication into his body and, in the ensuing half hour, he responded with blood returning to his cheeks as he stirred back to life. After a slight relapse, the nurses pumped further medication into the bloodstream and the prognosis started looking good as the

GAMEDAY: Rd 15 vs North Melbourne

It's Game Day and it very well could be the last roll of the dice for the Demon's finals aspirations in 2024. A loss to the bottom side would be another embarrassing moment in a cursed year for the Dees whilst a win could be the spark they need to reignite the fire in the belly.

    THE HUNTER by The Oracle

Something struck me as I sat on the couch watching the tragedy of North Melbourne’s attempt to beat Collingwood unfold on Sunday afternoon at the MCG.    It was three quarter time, the scoreboard had the Pies on 12.7.79, a respectable 63.16% in terms of goal kicking ratio. Meanwhile, the Roos’ 18.2.110 was off the charts at 90.00% shooting accuracy. I was thinking at the same time of Melbourne’s final score only six days before, a woeful 6.15.51 or 28.57% against Collingwood’s 14.5.89

    FROZEN by Whispering Jack

Who would have thought?    Collingwood had a depleted side with several star players out injured, Max Gawn was in stellar form, Christian Petracca at the top of his game and Simon Goodwin was about to pull off a masterstroke in setting Alex Neal-Bullen onto him to do a fantastic job in subduing the Magpies' best player. Goody had his charges primed to respond robustly to the challenge of turning around their disappointing performance against Fremantle in Alice Springs. And if not that, t
