Thanks for putting your words into my mouth Ron.

I'll base my comments on the reality that we effectively finished bottom last year, similar to the last 5 years. We haven't achieved anything except a shuffle of the deck chairs. Wins and losses count infinitely more than preseason over-optimism. I think that defines what Neeld was referring to as the 'reality bus'. But keep drooling over preseason if you wish. I'll wait till round 8 or 10.

Cheers.

Okay. Just wait for actual success before you 'buy in'.

That's an admirable approach to take.

Fortunately, it's the opposite of the approach adopted by Aussies in battles such as Kokoda and Long Tan.

And that's part of the reason I've convinced 11 new members to sign up thus far this year.

Cop a tip, I'm not telling these 'supporters' to wait until 8-10 rounds in to see where the 'reality bus' is taking us before committing to the club - I'm getting them pumped up right now and telling them that the journey to success has well and truly commenced. And I believe it has.

Back to Barry. Even though I'm relying on feedback provided by others, I reckon he's going to be a little bewdy.

Ok mods, this is getting ridiculous, surely the issues Baghdad Bob, Ron and RPFC are debating have been done so to death and have many of their own threads.

This thread was/is meant to be about Dom Barry.

Either back on topic or time to lock it down perhaps?

Theres a time and a place, no pride on the ground and not much off it, could you imagine Jimmy Bartell losing a game by 31 goals and smilling for the paparazzi 8 hrs after the event in a nightclub.

maybe not bartel, but certainly johno or from the past, brereton

Signed up this year for the first time myself. Just optimistic about the directions big Jim and neeldy have pointed us in and wanted to put a little bit in myself. Prob won't make it to many games, if any, but handed over the $$$ because I believe for the first time in a long time there's some light at the end of the tunnel.

..

I want to know what is happening with Dom, as I can't get to training to see for myself.

Admittedly there's a lot of crap, but are you seriously trying to say that you haven't read enough about him during this off-season ? There's hardly a player that has been covered more.

I'll go further and say that, pound for pound, there's not a single player on the list who has been covered more than Dom Barry.

I don't know Jordan Gysberts getting a bit of coverage in the training thread and he keeps popping up in other random threads with Moloney which is strange because I am sure I read somewhere that they both have moved to other clubs.

Oh and Dom Barry is going to be a exciting to watch this season...I hear

(Just to restore some balance and to ensure I stay on topic)

Have removed a lot of crud the last couple of pages and noticed a fair bit of non topical discussion prior. Stick to the topic of Dom Barry, or better still, find the appropriate thread to air your 'other discussion.'

How about this: lock the thread till the kid does something?

Don't know what the harm is in derailing a stationary train...

You have my vote, 211 comments on a guy that has not even played 1 minute of practise game yet.

A drop in the ocean compared to discussion on Jack Viney here!

It's quite easy to lock, or it can sit here waiting for another relevant contribution...

I'd like to think Barry can make his contributions for our team this year in some capacity. He is light on frame, and it will be interesting to see if he gets a start early on. I guess there will be a lot of keen eyes on him during the NAB Cup. Clearly he offers speed and good footskills from what we've seen highlighted and the club clearly likes his assets.

In the meantime here's a few questions I have: -

How is he on his right foot? I've seen him deliver plenty on his left.

Where do most feel he is suited? Mid? Forward? Half back?

Interesting to read he has added 5Kg to date over the preseason since arriving at the club. But really, it's to be expected after arriving at an AFL club.

I think his evasiveness and precision kicking will be great assets and may well be what sets him apart.

Thanks for posting the thread on Barry!

Does anybody know whether he got a run in the match against Richmond and, if so, how did he go?

    DELUGE by KC from Casey

The Casey Demons overcame their inaccuracy and the wet inhospitable conditions to overrun the lowly Northern Bullants at Genis Steel Oval in Cramer Street, Preston on Saturday. It was an eerie feeling entering the ground that in the past hosted many VFA/VFL greats of the past including the legendary Roy Cazaly. The cold and drizzly rain and the sparse crowd were enough to make one want to escape to the nearby Preston Market and hang out there for the afternoon. In the event, the fans

    INSANITY by Whispering Jack

Somehow, the Melbourne Football Club managed it twice in the course of a week. Coach Simon Goodwin admitted it in his press conference after the loss against the Brisbane Lions in a game where his team held a four goal lead in the third term:   "In reality we went a bit safe. Big occasion, a lot of young players playing. We probably just went into our shell a bit. "There's a bit to unpack in that last quarter … whether we go into our shells a bit late in the game."   Well

    UNBACKABLE by The Oracle

They’re billing the Brisbane Lions as a sleeping giant — the best team outside the top eight —and based on their form this month they’re a definite contender for September AFL action. Which is not exactly the best of news if you happen to be Melbourne, the visiting team this week up at the Gabba.  Even though they are placed ahead of their opponent on the AFL table, and they managed to stave off defeat in their last round victory over North Melbourne, this week’s visitors to the Sunshi

    WILDCARDS by KC from Casey

Casey’s season continued to drift into helplessness on Sunday when they lost another home game by a narrow margin, this time six points, in their Round 13 clash with North Melbourne’s VFL combination. The game was in stunning contrast to their last meeting at the same venue when Casey won the VFL Wildcard Match by 101 points. Back then, their standout players were Brodie Grundy and James Jordon who are starring in the AFL with ladder leaders, the Sydney Swans (it turned out to be their last
