Trengove stress fracture in foot

As Satyricon said, yes. You should be feeling a big loss just for the fact he is one of our captains. His presence will be missed out on the field for the next 6 weeks, that's for sure.

I don't have to be in love with every MFC player Passenger

There is nothing in the Member rules that says

"thou shall love every player"

During 2012 his contribution was average IMO ( he was of course not alone )

At least now we will have one captain who ran second in the "Bluey"

I think JT was eighth Hmm

I'm not saying you should love him as a player, what I said was you should be at least a little disappointed that one of our captains has a potentially serious injury. Only talking about him as a captain, not a player.

Guest Deemand

Why is it that I don't feel any great loss at this news.

I am surprised by my reaction.

Perhaps it is due to my suspicion that JT is an average player not the champion I hoped for.

Am I alone ?

Yes you're very much alone on that statement!!, the kid (yes currently 21 years old) is going to be an absolute gun

I will not be unhappy if he is Deemand.

But right now he has a long way to go to prove that statement.

I also heard similar things said about Petterd, Gysberts, Cook and Bennell

What happened there?

Appreciate your position I just don't feel a great sense of loss as I would if it was Grimes.

Sorry I cannot be mortally wounded by the potential loss of a co captain for a major part of 2013

Im with you old dee, Trengove is in his 4th year next season. Honestly if 4 years isn't enough for a midfielder to get his wiggle on then [censored].

Or maybe it demonstrates why he has been less than stellar?

This cloud may have a silver lining.

Move on, they are no longer MFC players...

having watched training and listened to a few things I am more optimistic for 2013...

Trengove has had a minor setback, that's all, and yet it opens the door for the usual suspects to have a few whack at an MFC player,

What does it achieve? obviously it makes you feel better

With the new regime we have picked it up early, and exactly what has been wrong with this progress in the last couple of years......what he is not a superstar and dominating games, give him a chance, as another poster said he is still only 21...got at least another 10 years

If you want to compare let's compare with say Murphy at Carlton, a nr 1 pick yet it is only in the last year or two that he is starting to show how good he really is.

Take a deep breath

Trengove is going to be a better player than Grimes.

I thought Trengove was running well a few weeks back, so I was surprised to see a couple of posters saying he looked really slow a week ago, but the latest set back would go a long way to explaining those reports.

While it's not ideal, it's nothing to get overly concerned about. Round 1 is 4 months away. I do feel supporters exaggerate issues on here.

Surely you can understand it when a captain has a stress fracture in his foot?

I will just throw that question into the ether...

Think you're drawing a long bow there ... I don't know too many (anyone?) who would ever have put Bennell and Cook (and Petterd for that matter) on the same level as Trengove.

Doing fine as far as I can see. People often seem to forget how long it took some of the "stars" to become just that, especially in a team with so little real leadership and role models, not to mention, one that's being hammered from pillar to post each week.

Marvelous how some comments morph into something different.

I started with that I was surprised how little impact the news of the injury had on me.

I am still that way.

What you say may well be correct.

Obviously the FD have a much higher opinion than me they made him captain.

I would be much more concerned if it was Grimes

If anyone needs help looking on the bright side, don't forget James Hird overcame serious foot issues to become a reasonably good player.

So has Garland.

The down side is he missed a season.

Not sure how long Hird was out but I seem to remember it was substantial.

Bad example and highlights how far off the pace - pun intended - Trengove is for a highly touted no.2 draft pick.

By his third season (2008) Murphy was averaging 25 posessions a game and hasn't looked back since. What he's done in the past two seasons is elevate himself into the absolute elite (top 5 mids in comp).

Have we seen anything from Jack T. to indicate he will reach anything like that level? No.

Fletch, how is Trengove off the pace, have you been to training and seen which group he runs with, it is the group containing MCDonald and Nicholson that everybody is now drooling over, the lack of pace was a myth started by a couple of the continual naysayers on this board (similar to the fact that Joel Mac can't hit a target, again try going to training and watch)

As for your comment that Murphy is a bad example and is now in the top 5 mids really, we'll go on Brownlow votes...he got 11,

Watson got 30, Swann 25, Ablett 24 Thompson and Dangerfield 25 and 23 respectively, Mitchell 26, Cotchin 26, Kennedy 19 I could keep going but top 5 no, maybe this year?

Trengove is developing nicely, unless of course you want a comet or bright light but disappears as quickly as it appears

I don't watch training but I do watch matches and Trengove was slow. Too slow for a top line midfielder. He was reactive and sluggish over the first five metres in 2013, hence the proportionate increase in his tackle count and handballs compared to kicks. It's not a myth.

You're reaching trying to find a justification for Murphy not being a top 5 elite AFL mid. I would hesitate to guess most experts would disagree with you. He missed close to a third of the regular 2012 season with an AC injury.

Trengoves first 2 seasons were really good, but this year im sure he would like to forget, he looked slow and indecisive, but the kids got one thing that alot of people struggle with, and thats loyalty, so im backing him in to tear it apart in the future, the guys in a moon boot for 6 weeks and hopefully ready for round 1.

So I am the only one reaching, thought I might be, seems the Footy Dept was happy with Trengove's season, Mark Neeld said so,

I seem to remember both Mitchell and Watson being described as 'being too slow to be a top line' midfielder, strange that isn't it.....

.I just get a bit peeved when most threads/posts/topics......open the door for somebody, a 'supporter' to have a whack at a particular player,

as I have said countless times before I am continually baffled by the number of supporters who seem to hate everything about the Club from the players down and will take any opportunity to denigrate, yet continually 'support'

I just don't get it.....if the footy [censored] me off so much, I wouldn't even bother, I used to love rugby league, but I find the game has changed so much, no ball players anymore, so I don't bother with it at all.......

Actually, I think not... according to what I read, they were saying that the fact they found the beginnings of a stress fracture in its very early stages, is why they are confident he should be available for round one 2013. This probably had little or no bearing at all on his relatively lacklustre season 2012.

    BOILED LOLLIES by The Oracle

In the space of a month Melbourne has gone from chocolates to boiled lollies in terms of its standing as a candidate for the AFL premiership.  The club faces its moment of truth against a badly bruised up Collingwood at the MCG. A win will give it some respite but even then, it won’t be regarded particularly well being against an opponent carrying the burden of an injured playing list. A loss would be a disaster. The Demons have gone from a six/two win/loss ratio and a strong percentag

CLEAN HANDS by KC from Casey

The Casey Demons headed into town and up Sydney Road to take on the lowly Coburg Lions who have been perennial VFL easy beats and sitting on one win for the season. Last year, Casey beat them in a practice match when resting their AFL listed players. That’s how bad they were. Nobody respected them on Saturday and clearly not the Demons who came to the game with 22 players (ten MFC), but whether they came out to play is another matter because for the most part, their intensity was lacking an

    ALAS SPRINGS by Whispering Jack

I got the word on Saturday from someone who knows someone inside the Fremantle camp that the Dockers were pumped and supremely confident about getting the W the next day against Melbourne at TIO Traeger Park in the red heart of the country. I was informed that the Dockers were extremely confident for a number of reasons. They had beaten the Demons on their home territory at the MCG at their last two meetings so they didn’t see beating them at Alice Springs as a problem. They belie

    TROUBLE by The Oracle

Situated roughly in Australia's geographic centre, Alice Springs has for many years been a troubled town suffering from intermittent crime waves, particularly among its younger residents. There was a time a little while ago when things were so bad that some even doubted the annual AFL game in the town would proceed.  Now, the hope is that this Sunday’s Melbourne vs Fremantle encounter will bring joy to the residents of the town and that through the sport and the example of the participants,
