has huge down side with his work rate and natural athletic ability.

You have an interesting way of agreeing with people.

Rucks don't need to be skillful.

If they get 3 kicks and 7 hanballs they can still have a dominant game if the hit the ball 40 times with their fist.

Jamar is value because he can dominate the centre square - an area a number 1 ruckman must be good at.

That is why he got 3 years.

If Spencer can do that - he will have a career. Same goes for any uncoordinated, skill-averse behemoth.

But if they can be athletic and dominant it makes a huge difference, Cox for instance is supreme ruck becasue he touches the ball regularly and effectively.

Do they have a pick in the PSD though?

I believe they don't.

I'm guessing but with Melbourne going to NT for the next week it might not be feasible to take a non listed player on the trip. There could be implications with insurance and a whole range of things involved.

That means that Hannath is free to train elsewhere and who knows? A different club altogether could select him in the PSD or the rookie draft.

That's the system.

Chances are that one or two of the blokes that we have let go will succeed at another club. That won't mean that we will have made a mistake.

The list needs to be looked at as an entity on it's own and not as a group of indivduals.

And especially the compound effect of all, on the culture. This to me is why its necessary to ciut so deep, & bring in so many more professionally oriented types of players, & coaches.

Does anybody know whether he was invited to train in Darwin?

Hannath would be a great backup for our ruck stocks.

Not to mention, adding to the possibility that one of our rucks will be useful as trade bait next year. If we picked him up, can't imagine we'd keep Gawn, Spencer and Hannath over the long term, and we still have Clark, Fitzpatrick and some pinch-hitters (Sellars, Pederson). Surely one would go.

Hi all - first post!

Hannath did go to Darwin with the Dees. From what I've heard he's been pretty much guaranteed by Melbourne that they'll take him

Welcome and thanks for the heads up.

If we take Hannath, does anybody have any insider info on who our other rookie pick may take this week?

Some seem to think we will chase a small forward so that is basically one of the northern territory kids

I really doubt we will add to the mature age brigade seeing as we already have Magner still on the Rookie List

Will be interesting and will look forward to Venom Denham making absurd and negative remarks no matter who we pick

    DELUGE by KC from Casey

The Casey Demons overcame their inaccuracy and the wet inhospitable conditions to overrun the lowly Northern Bullants at Genis Steel Oval in Cramer Street, Preston on Saturday. It was an eerie feeling entering the ground that in the past hosted many VFA/VFL greats of the past including the legendary Roy Cazaly. The cold and drizzly rain and the sparse crowd were enough to make one want to escape to the nearby Preston Market and hang out there for the afternoon. In the event, the fans

    INSANITY by Whispering Jack

Somehow, the Melbourne Football Club managed it twice in the course of a week. Coach Simon Goodwin admitted it in his press conference after the loss against the Brisbane Lions in a game where his team held a four goal lead in the third term:   "In reality we went a bit safe. Big occasion, a lot of young players playing. We probably just went into our shell a bit. "There's a bit to unpack in that last quarter … whether we go into our shells a bit late in the game."   Well

    UNBACKABLE by The Oracle

They’re billing the Brisbane Lions as a sleeping giant — the best team outside the top eight —and based on their form this month they’re a definite contender for September AFL action. Which is not exactly the best of news if you happen to be Melbourne, the visiting team this week up at the Gabba.  Even though they are placed ahead of their opponent on the AFL table, and they managed to stave off defeat in their last round victory over North Melbourne, this week’s visitors to the Sunshi

    WILDCARDS by KC from Casey

Casey’s season continued to drift into helplessness on Sunday when they lost another home game by a narrow margin, this time six points, in their Round 13 clash with North Melbourne’s VFL combination. The game was in stunning contrast to their last meeting at the same venue when Casey won the VFL Wildcard Match by 101 points. Back then, their standout players were Brodie Grundy and James Jordon who are starring in the AFL with ladder leaders, the Sydney Swans (it turned out to be their last
