For all those wonderful Dee supporters worried about our moves this year, let's reflect on the last few years.

High draft nos. and yet we have failed to find a superstar (Trengove, Blease, Grimes could well yet emerge. I suspect they will))

We have not played finals for soooo long

We have not been truly competitive.

I think Neeldy wants a side that can compete. I want a side that can run out each week and give us a chance of victory.

We are recruiting bigger bodies, we are recruiting Premiership players!.....more than anything else Neeld needs to be applauded for 'having a go!'. The worst scenario would be no improvement....this will not happen in my opinion. All of the recruited players have great attitudes, train very hard and understand what it takes to be successful.

I hope the Gys and Cale find success, but I'll settle for Byrnes, Dawes, Rodan, Petersen, Hogan, Barry and Viney for starters and if we can get Wines....2013 will be an exciting year.

It certainly has to be more exciting than 2012!

Out talented skinny runts who did not buy into new regime.

In hard bodied honest players willing to work hard .

I will support it for now the skinny bodied youth approach got us no where so why not

What ever and who ever Neeld want's to add or remove from our list is ok with me. The number of players who could not make a spot in the worst team in the AFL last year astounded me. I'm looking for a big jump up the ladder next year.

I'm cheering.

Bring on the pre-season training reports, NAB Cup then the real thing with a far more capable squad.

Posters are more than welcome to do some screaming.

It's healthy.

We have Pick 4, 11, and 12 about to leave the club as failures.

But they are our failures and it stings.

Neeld's time so far has been one of radical change and there is no denying that change was warranted. One must congratulate Neeld for having the the courage to do this and , for the moment, embrace it because we had no hope otherwise.

However, if it all goes to shite, Neeld will only have his own petard ( not Ricky BTW) to fall on and I will join the call for his guts.

Good luck MN - we certainly are screaming for success. Lets hope we can also cheer it soon.

Our failures? Or a certain previous recruiter's?

It's worth noting that the FD have pretty much got all the players they targeted. In this respect it has been a very successful campaign. Whether they are the right players is yet to be seen.

Sorry, I'm not cheering a pick 4 being traded for pick 80. Pick 11 for a VFL player. Pick 12 delisted.

There has to be some responsibility and accountability in the club.

Why do we need David Rodan? How is he any different to Gysberts?

I don't understand it and as usual there's no hope anyone at Melbourne will explain what's going on. Really fed up.

I hope im proven to be wrong in timw but IMO Today has been a dark day in the footy club.

Loss: Morton - pick 4

Gysberts pick 11

Pick 60 odd

Gained: Pederson, tall guy who can't get a game for North.

Pick 70 odd and pick 88

Prior to today I though we'd had a good trade period. After today I'm not so sure.

If all the top draft picks had translated into excellent players, I would agree that it seems odd. However our recent history tells me that we got it very wrong.

Rodan et al, is a goer, a premiership player and prepares incredibly well. This experience (short term I agree, but good for 2 years) will hopefully help mentor the younger boys at Melbourne.

We could not have accepted a draft period without major change. Time will tell!

Eactly my feelings (just prior to Rodan). I supported everything being done and was very happy with what had been achieved. Just looks like a firesale now.

Rodan is a premiership player? I thought he was at Richmond to 2006, then Port. Port kept dropping Rodan because he wouldn't do the defensive work, a bit like most of Melbourne's playing list. What is the point, I ask.

I don't know why people get so hung up on draft picks????

If Howe was a pick 3 instead of a pick 50 something...What difference does it make....Is he still a good pick up for us???...Of course he is.....

If Morton was a pick 30ish....Would he have received the crap he received from these posters??????

What ever pick a player comes to us does not matter one iota.....Its what he produces for us that counts, when he walks in the door the draft pick that he came for is irrelevant........

It's just peoples expectations which is changed ....

I have said this on previous posts - people arent accepting they are failures ( thats their rightful opinion).

We should get more for Morton because he was a pick 4 - what we have done is delisted him and freed up a little bit of salary cap. People dont get that he may have been pick 4 but his value now is zip. That hurts but doesnt remove the reality that Morton is worth zip.

Some of you people seriously have to get it into your heads that the pick these guys were when drafted has absolutely nothing to do with their worth today.

My sparkling new car when it drove off the production line in 2006 is probably now worth only about 25% of what I paid at the time. It's called market value.

Gys and Cale may well have been shinny and new when drafted with all the optional extras, but the club has accepted that they were sold lemons and have traded them in for used vehicles with a solid build and proven reliability. I'm much happier to have a couple of 5 year old V8's over a brand new Prius.

How many games were you expecting them to play in 2013? .......... Plenty at Casey I'm sure

Great work Todd Viney, Tim Harrington & Mark Neeld

Some posters would be upset if we delisted a number 4 pick even after he decided he wasn't interested in footy anymore but wanted to take up basket weaving.

It's fine to discuss whether a play needs more time etc, but if we bungled in the past by making bad high draft picks, it is not wise to continue with the mistakes.

Posted

would neeld have traded blease and watts if he took over a few years ago?

The definition of insanity is doing the same thing you have always done and expecting a different result.

The players we have lost for whatever reason have not performed to the level the coach wants (other than maybe Rivers) and (I assume) have not impressed the coach with either their: work ethic, skills, body shape, dedication etc.

I am all for change. AT last a coach who is leading/demanding and not following....

Boy it says a huge amount amount our training regime, culture and professionalism in recent years. It is not pretty/

Lots a draftees are rated lower after 1 or 2 years in the system. Its not unusual.

Demonland Trackwatchers braved the sweltering heat to bring you their Preseason Training observations from Gosch's Paddock on Monday morning. SCOOP JUNIOR'S PRESEASON TRAINING OBSERVATIONS I went down today in what were pretty ordinary conditions - hot and windy. When I got there, they were doing repeat simulations of a stoppage on the wing and then moving the ball inside 50. There seemed to be an emphasis on handballing out of the stoppage, usually there were 3 or 4 handballs to

WAYNE WUSSELL'S PRESEASON TRAINING OBSERVATIONS Rehab: Lever, Spargo, McAdam, Lindsay, Brown Sinnema is excellent by foot and has a decent vertical leap. Windsor is training with the Defenders. Windsor's run won't be lost playing off half back. In 19 games in 2024 he kicked 8 goals as a winger. I see him getting shots at g

BEST OF THE REST by Meggs

Meggs' Review of Melbourne's AFLW Season 9 ... Congratulations first off to the North Melbourne Kangaroos on winning the 2024 AFLW Premiership. Roos Coach Darren Crocker has assembled a team chock-full of competitive and highly skilful players who outclassed the Brisbane Lions in the Grand Final to remain undefeated throughout Season 9. A huge achievement in what was a dominant season by North. For Melbourne fans, the season was unfortunately one of frustration and disappointment
