Discussion on recent allegations about the use of illicit drugs in football is forbidden
  • IMPORTANT: PLEASE READ BEFORE POSTING

Posting unsubstantiated rumours on this website is strictly forbidden.

Demonland has made the difficult decision to not permit this platform to be used to discuss & debate the off-field issues relating to the Melbourne Football Club including matters currently being litigated between the Club & former Board members, board elections, the issue of illicit drugs in footy, the culture at the club & the personal issues & allegations against some of our players & officials ...

We do not take these issues & this decision lightly & of course we believe that these serious matters affecting the club we love & are so passionate about are worthy of discussion & debate & I wish we could provide a place where these matters can be discussed in a civil & respectful manner.

However these discussions unfortunately invariably devolve into areas that may be defamatory, libelous, spread unsubstantiated rumours & can effect the mental health of those involved. Even discussion & debate of known facts or media reports can lead to finger pointing, blame & personal attacks.

The repercussion is that these discussions can open this website, it’s owners & it’s users to legal action & may result in this website being forced to shutdown.

Our moderating team are all volunteers & cannot moderate the forum 24/7 & as a consequence problematic content that contravenes our rules & standards may go unnoticed for some time before it can be removed.

We reserve the right to delete posts that offend against our above policy & indeed, to ban posters who are repeat offenders or who breach our code of conduct.

WE HAVE BUILT A FANTASTIC ONLINE COMMUNITY AT DEMONLAND OVER THE PAST 23 YEARS & WE WOULD LIKE TO CONTINUE TO BE ABLE TO DISCUSS THE CLUB WE LOVE & ARE SO PASSIONATE ABOUT.

Thank you for your continued support & understanding. Go Dees.

Membership 2013

With the off field recruiting that has pleased the majority of people on this site, Im curious to know where people think our membership tally will be next year.

We obviously had a terrible 2012 season in regards to win/loss but with unearthing Tommy Mac, Blease and Watts as a defender and with the consistent performances of Jones, Howe and Clark its getting me excited and im getting my hopes up (yet again) that we are heading in the right direction.

Throw in Viney, Wines and Barry and the momentum grows and grows among supporters and im hoping for 40,000 melbourne members in season 2013.

Am I being too optimistic?

Well they've got me again regardless of the new inclusions.

A few more wins will obviously pick it up. That said, I reckon if we can get at least a 50/50 win loss by the time memberships close, we should be aiming for around the high 30's.

As to op.

I think a fair few fence sitters will again do that. Some foljs may 'buy in' a number will wait to see if the hype manifests as results.

With some modicum of respectability on the field i sense the numbers could grow healthily.

Theres a lot of people whod love Melbourne to be successful ...again. Theyre just burnt.

Many eyes on this club now :)

Yeah I tend to agree. People are sitting up and taking notice. I have a few mates that have bought memberships for the first time in years because of what we have already done in the off season. Im hoping to get 40,000 members just so we arent looked at as a struggling club. I hate being thrown into the same group as the doggies, st kilda and port group

Am I being too optimistic?

Yes.

The supporters who take notice of things like drafting and the improvement of TMac and Blease etc are pretty much the rusted-on members anyway.

The fence-sitters and fair-weather supporters we need to improve our tally will not join as members till we start winning games consistently.

I'd be surprised if mebership didn't fall again in 2013

If we get a few wins early on I think we could push 40,000. There will be alot of wait and see supporters which you cant really blame. On field in season 2013 has to be a massive improvement from 2012 for us to reach that mark though.

With a decent NAB cup draw, we should see a few early wins (one would hope).

Given this, you'd hope we'd break 40,000.

I don't have high hopes for it, but it would be an excellent result for the club.

If we can get a bit of momemtum from the NAB cup that would be another good stepping stone for us.

Ps Completely off topic but can Hogan play in the NAB cup? Like O'Meara did for GC in the 2012 NAB? Could be another reason to sign supporters up

He probably could, but it would be a ridiculous thing to do to the kid. Similar to Watts on QB 2009.

Very true, would hate for him to get smothered by expectation like Jack has / still comes under

He'll probably kick 6 and be BOG.

Is that expectation?

I wouldn't think so.

Everyone plays their kids in those pointless games.

If he is fit and firing I would play him.

Haha my golly if he did that I dont think id be able to control my love for the man!

After his presser I'm already there.

"I hate losing.."

Music to my ears Hulk. Music to my ears.

Re NAB Cup, might not be a bad way for him to dip his toe in the water. Let's not forget we beat Collingwood in the NAB last year. It's hardly played at full pelt.

BUMP

Comparative Membership Tallys: -

7 Dec 2009 - 16,473*

2 Dec 2010 - 17,541

2 Dec 2011 - 18,747

3 Dec 2012 - 18,217

*Closest I could get to 2nd/3rd December from previous Membership threads.

I think the really early gauge is hard to judge now due to the "first and forever" direct debit campaign.....

It wasnt around in 2009, and even if alot of the same people sign up early i still think it will be inflated.

Is smart though guarantees us 20K members for the year and gets the cash flow in order

You're correct about 2009, IIRC 2010 and 2011 had direct debit and have the early form of rolled over members. The early indications of the 2012 Membership numbers were good compared to 2011 Membership, but it slowed Jan-March earlier this year and fell behind previous years numbers.

Early indications are this year's (2013 season) numbers will again fall behind 2012 numbers, given the pattern.

My prediction is 35,323.

35K Max IMO. I think when Jimmy took hold of the club we gained a lot of momentum and people believed in his vision which resulted in people getting behind the club. Unfortunately we seemed to have lost a lot of that momentum with poor performances and the year from hell. Basically we need results to get people excited again.

    DISCO INFERNO by Whispering Jack

Two weeks ago, when the curtain came down on Melbourne’s game against the Brisbane Lions, the team trudged off the MCG looking tired and despondent at the end of a tough run of games played in quick succession. In the days that followed, the fans wanted answers about their team’s lamentable performance that night and foremost among their concerns was whether the loss was a one off result of fatigue or was it due to other factor(s) of far greater consequence.  As it turns out, the answer to

TIGERS PUNT CASEY by KC from Casey

The afternoon atmosphere at the Swinburne Centre was somewhat surreal as the game between Richmond VFL and the Casey Demons unfolded on what was really a normal work day for most Melburnians. The Yarra Park precinct marched to the rhythm of city life, the trains rolled by, pedestrians walked by with their dogs and the traffic on Punt Road and Brunton Avenue swirled past while inside the arena, a football battle ensued. And what a battle it was? The Tigers came in with a record of two wins f

It's Game Day and the Demons once again open the round of football with their annual clash against Richmond on ANZAC Eve. The Tigers, coached by former Dees champion and Premiership assistant coach Adem Yze have a plethora of stars missing due to injury but beware the wounded Tiger. The Dees will have to be switched on tonight. A win will keep them in the hunt for the Top 4 whilst a loss could see them fall out of the 8 for the first time since 2020.

    OOZEE by The Oracle

There’s a touch of irony in the fact that Adem Yze played his first game for Melbourne in Round 13, 1995 against the club he now coaches. For that game, he wore the number 44 guernsey and got six touches in a game the team won by 11 points.  The man whose first name was often misspelled, soon changed to the number 13 and it turned out lucky for him. He became a highly revered Demon with a record of 271 games during which his presence was acknowledged by the fans with the chant of “Oozee” wh
