We have until Friday to get Dawes and the pies have until Friday to free up salary cap space it will get done.

Friday week.

This Friday marks the end of FA, we have another week of trade week to come next week.

The whole Dawes situation is taking too long.

Go on a holiday. Come back next Monday. Nothing much is going to happen this week until the AFL dishes out FA compo picks and the clubs work out what they have to play with.

We might get a pick in the mid-20s for Moloney that can be used on Dawes instead of #20, especially if a player is thrown into the equation. Who really knows until then?

Cheers for that. That's plenty of time to make the filth sweat on it. Pick 20 and some steak knives or [censored] off.

Or if they want Petterd we can work a deal and find a home for a player that has lost his way and will probably be delisted soon.

iIs a week too long.( some might suggest more than a week ) . just dragged out to ensure media coverage.

Pies allegedly paying Dawes about $280k and have now got Lynch and thrown big bucks at Cloke and several others. He again allegedly, is told by Bucks and the club that he is free to look around. They need salary cap space. Eddie already referring to him as an ex player who is welcome back to the club after his footy career ends.

So what does that all mean? It means they don't think much of him, except when it gets to letting him go. Suddenly he has become a star. A first round pick is not enough. Give us a break.

The Pies may end up with a reputation like Essendon and Port.

The longer this drags on, suggest to me that we either want change or think we can get it done with a compo pick around 27-30

Again, take the compo pick 27-30 off the table - it will be more than that - Bulldogs offered 21 and the Pies can tell Dawes it is doggies or no-one.

I can see the likes of Petterd or even Martin being offered up but I am thinking that in the end we will give up 20 and get something else back in return if a player is thrown in (especially if it is Martin)

Edit- also we have already offered pick 20 - but you think we have had a change of heart and now only going to offer up 27-30. Really ? If aint purely 20 there may be a player thrown in and maybe or maybe not a later pick coming back to us.

Where is the club quoted what we have "offered" for Dawes?

I wonder what is taking so long.

I would of thought it would go something like this.

Melb: 'We will give you pick 20 for Dawes'

Coll: 'Sweeten the deal'

Melb: 'We will throw in Morton'

Coll: 'I SAID SWEET NOT POISON!'

Melb: 'Apologies, how about Petterd'

Coll: 'Ok done'

Pick 20 Petterd and a $500k contract - that is definitely overs.

Petterd would be a star at the Filth.

If the trade goes ahead, the next couple of seasons will tell if you are correct jnr. In the mean time, I'm happy for our new FD to make a call about the 'worth' of the deal. Right now it seems reasonable to me.

This Friday if the Clinton Young FA deal is in any way dependent on it - list space or cap space.

The question should be less about whether he will be a star for them, and more about why doesn't he look likely to be a star with MFC?

If he looks unlikely for a starting 22 position for us, what does it matter if he stars elsewhere. Good on him if he can turn it around. But if he can't produce for the MFC then I am all for him going elsewhere.

In terms of pick 20 ? Geoff Walsh of Collingwood is on record as saying that pick 20 may not be enough - I think thats a tell-tale hint of what we offered.

"There are probably some better offers around than pick No.20, to be blunt," Walsh said

If we go on the fair assumption (based on the Walsh quote) that we've already offered 20, there is no way on Earth we will downgrade the offer to a 27 to 30 compo pick. Comes back to my point about wasting everyone's time.

And the dicking around continues

what do we know ...pick 20 is central to the offer. What can be added ? A swap of latter picks and its unclear in which direction that would go. A player and pick change combo, also a possibility

or

it might just end up pick 20

or

we might end up with pick 20, but im guessing ( and thats all it is ) that ultimately the Filth are more interested in space on their list and cap.

I reckon it's as maurie said, many trades are frozen until clubs know what's in their hand with regards to compensation picks, and the Dawes trade is surely one of them.

There's nothing to say that we actually offered pick 20. That could easily just be Walsh putting two and two together.

THAT WAS THE YEAR THAT WAS: 2024

Whichever way you look at it, the Melbourne Football Club’s 2024 season can only be characterized as the year of its fall from grace. Whispering Jack looks back at the season from hell that was. After its 2021 benchmark premiership triumph, the men’s team still managed top four finishes in the next two seasons but straight sets finals losses consigned them to sixth place in both years. The big fall came in 2024 with a collapse into the bottom six and a 14th placing. At Casey, the 2022 VFL p
