Another great result for Casey - Byrnes, Rodan and now Pederson. I'm going down to the TAB to put some money on the Scorps for 2013 VFL premiers.

Roos effectively trade Cam Pedersen and Aaron Edwards for Jordan Gysberts and pick 63. Paperwork lodged for both deals.

Did we get Aaron Edwards as well. in this deal.

North's outs include Pederson, McIntosh, Edwards, Campbell. Are they a bit thin for depth up forward now?

Dunno, banking on Tarrant? didnt think they had much apart from Petrie to start with

If Olisik, Poita, Picket Fences are upset with a couple of these trades then I know the club is on the right track.

I liked getting Viney in the 2nd round. Guess we weren't on the right track with the trade that scored that based on your theory

I'm not sure but I think Poita might be Dean Bailey. Irrespectively you're right.

Olisik suggested trading Frawley while he had value and Tom McDonald too. That speaks for itself.

uh-oh we gave up pick 63 and get back 74. Thats not good news for us. We lost Gysberts and draft pick order...

Broken clock theory ...

I really like what MFC and Neeld have done during trade period and at one stage I was in favour of Pederson. But I remain unconvinced about him. I can't see him fitting in to our 22 easily, and we seem to have gone from no power forwards to a surplus. But I am an outside observer and will try and see a plan emerging from our coaching and recruiting staff. So Pedro, welcome to MFC.

And I have a horrible feeling that Gysberts will do at North what Thompson did at Adelaide.

pretty sure 63 would have been earmarked to elevate Nicho from the rookie list. it leaves a slightly bitter taste in the mouth that we had to give up more to get what we wanted, but in the end makes no difference

Welcome aboard Cam

Comments like this are just unnecessary. Everyone is entitled to an opinion, and there will be plenty of supporters unhappy with one or both of these trades. No-one is an authority on whether it's the right decision at this point.

Yeah, but some opinions are more equal that others.

The good thing about Pedersen is that he offers us a slightly different type of key forward. He is a very mobile player that is as comfortable presenting to the ball as he is carrying the ball from higher up the ground.

Dawes is a presenting, competing forward, as is Hogan. Clark is the pea and Pedersen is a more mobile and flexible player. Think of it like West Coast, who ideally play Kennedy, Lynch, Cox and Darling in the same forward line. Pedersen is much more like Darling than our others are. It also indicates that Howe will be almost exclusively a midfielder.

Smacks of desperation by the Dees. It looks like Pederson was a "must have" no matter what the cost.

Obviously clearing the decks with Morton and Cook.

We now need some run and spread players with hurt factor. Can't see it happening this trade period.

Very different circumstances.

No one at the MFC (and I doubt any supporters) wanted to lose Thompson. Everyone knew how good he was and that he was only going to get better. Every other club would have wanted him if he were on the open market.

The Gysbert's deal was done at the 11th hour of a three week trade period. There was only passing interest in him from a very few other clubs. IF he turns out to be a real player, there are many AFL judges out there who got it wrong.

When have i suggested traded Frawley, please link

and trading Tom McDonald for pick #2 or #3 would be worth it. Would be a much better trade then Morton for pick 88

No it isn't.

Throwaway line mate.

Singling out posters to imply their opinion is worth less than yours is low. We've been a shitheap for the better part of a decade and everyone speculates on why that is, how we can fix it, and whether the course we are taking is the right one. No-one has been proven correct on anything in this regard, because we are still a shitheap.

Haha very good. Need a laugh after another disaster in the chapter of the MFC what a joke!

THE ACCIDENTAL DEMONS by The Oracle

In the space of eight days, the Melbourne Football Club’s plans for the coming year were turned upside down by two season-ending injuries to players who were contending strongly for places in its opening round match against the GWS Giants. Shane McAdam was first player to go down with injury when he ruptured an Achilles tendon at Friday afternoon training, a week before the cut-off date for the AFL’s pre-season supplemental selection period (“SSP”). McAdam was beginning to get some real mom

RETURN TO NORMAL by Whispering Jack

One of my prized possessions is a framed, autographed guernsey bearing the number 31 worn by my childhood hero, Melbourne’s champion six time premiership player Ronald Dale Barassi who passed away on 16 September 2023, aged 87. The former captain who went on to a successful coaching career, mainly with other clubs, came back to the fold in his later years as a staunch Demon supporter who often sat across the way from me in the Northern Stand of the MCG cheering on the team. Barassi died the
