Posting unsubstantiated rumours on this website is strictly forbidden.

Demonland has made the difficult decision to not permit this platform to be used to discuss & debate the off-field issues relating to the Melbourne Football Club including matters currently being litigated between the Club & former Board members, board elections, the issue of illicit drugs in footy, the culture at the club & the personal issues & allegations against some of our players & officials ...

We do not take these issues & this decision lightly & of course we believe that these serious matters affecting the club we love & are so passionate about are worthy of discussion & debate & I wish we could provide a place where these matters can be discussed in a civil & respectful manner.

However these discussions unfortunately invariably devolve into areas that may be defamatory, libelous, spread unsubstantiated rumours & can effect the mental health of those involved. Even discussion & debate of known facts or media reports can lead to finger pointing, blame & personal attacks.

The repercussion is that these discussions can open this website, it’s owners & it’s users to legal action & may result in this website being forced to shutdown.

Our moderating team are all volunteers & cannot moderate the forum 24/7 & as a consequence problematic content that contravenes our rules & standards may go unnoticed for some time before it can be removed.

We reserve the right to delete posts that offend against our above policy & indeed, to ban posters who are repeat offenders or who breach our code of conduct.

WE HAVE BUILT A FANTASTIC ONLINE COMMUNITY AT DEMONLAND OVER THE PAST 23 YEARS & WE WOULD LIKE TO CONTINUE TO BE ABLE TO DISCUSS THE CLUB WE LOVE & ARE SO PASSIONATE ABOUT.

Thank you for your continued support & understanding. Go Dees.

Well after 34 consecutive years of being a member, player sponser and dotanating considerable money to help the club I have finally come to realise that mediocraty is rampant considering all the early picks we had over the past years and funny enough we were still losers our draft choices were extremely poor, and the club was considering to offer scully what we paid for mitch clarke. Now i mean to say they had scully for 2 years and personnal;y the guy is just an average footballer we all surely have to agree, but no they were determined to throw good money to keep him what does that say of our football department really is scully worth $750,000 the club offered to pay him absolute lunacy

Now another question why did the late & great Jim Stynes have to go outside his board and get garry lyon, why did he not get Mclardy or other board members to fix the problem in his place as he was too ill. No he by PASSED ALL OF THEM, why was that a lack of confidence maybe

I no longer have any faith in our administration but one person can't stand alone and too many of us accept what neeld says but what has he done with 2 or 3 games to go last year we were still a chance to make the 8, this year was a total disaster, the appointment of 2 young players totaly backfired but they are stuck with that how can thewy change it now. There was no doubt in my mind that Brent Maloney should have been captain and you would have seen a better player his heart was ripped out, and that would have paved the way for jones this year but they got it all wrong and we as supporters let it happen

How are we going to stuff up this time i'm waiting to see, we got that coach from the crows, sorry his name escapes me, is it not strange as soon as he left the crows the very next year they ended up 2nd and playing a prelim while our board is crowing how lucky we were to get the coach they booted out camon give me a break.

Look loosing isn't the issue i have been a member for 34 years and we lost many games and i still joined up sponsored a player and donated money, but i have have had enough of an incompetent board, no i say how can anyone be unconditional

Now I know you are trying to lure me onto the rosy positive train Crawf

However this is the reality thread.

I thought in mid 2010 we would be playing finals this year and we are further behind than ever.

IMO we have approx 4 good footballers, 8 average ones, no game breaker and the rest will not take us above 16th position.

On the up side we will recruit approx 10 new players this year if we are lucky we will get 3 - 4 good players the rest will be no better than our not good enoughs.

This will need to be repeated another 2 -3 times over the next 2 -3 years.

Hopefully during the next three years we will luck into a game breaker.

So around 2016 we should have improved to the 7 - 8th position on the ladder.

The next step is the big one and I have little idea how long it will take if at all to get into the top four

But I find it difficult to believe it is possible to move from what is effectively last on the ladder

to a GF appearance in less than 8 years with the crap list we have now.

Hence my desire to be competitive by 2016

Reality sucks. Dream big.

Reality sucks. Dream big.

Crawf reality is what you have when you wake in the morning after a dream.

The reality is we did not finish last for 4 of the last 6 years by accident.

We finished last because we have the worst list in the AFL

And that is going to take some time to fix.

Sad but reality.

I get what you're saying but unless we have dreams we have no goals. Don't underestimate the power of positive thinking. As a teacher I know that if I tell kids it will take them all year to understand a concept, that's how long it will take. If I provide them with the right motivation and incentives they have something to focus on and we can actually achieve things much more quickly.

Nothing can stop the man with the right mental attitude from achieving his goal; nothing on earth can help the man with the wrong mental attitude.

All of what you say has merit.

and I hope you are right Crawf

I think I have just been around the MFC too long.

I have zero confidence in our ability as an organization at all levels to rise above mediocre.

Now to bed mate good dreams await

Yet you answered "unconditional: ?

Anyway, it looks like most will support the club regardless. I hope my tipping point is never reached.

In that I'll drift back to them in 25 years when they make the top 4

I have been a Melbourne supporter since 1960 and for me it is Melbourne or nothing. My fear is that it may soon be nothing. If the AFL screws us over the tanking investigation and take away our draft picks they will have removed all hope for the near future. If this occurrs I will never follow AFL again

I always go in to the next year with some optimism, if I didn't then there'd be nothing to look forward to. I'm expecting some improvement next year, not a huge amount, but something to show we are on the right track and if I get that I'll be happy. I love the attitude of the senior players, the ones that are left, and it appears that the old attitude of just playing AFL football is disappearing and these guys are really hungry for success.

If we stuff up the draft again I won't be happy.

I really don't know how anyones support could be unconditional. If the club was run by nongs for 'X' years making bad decision after bad decision ('Y') and once again going into too much debt I don't know how people could continue to turn up at the G watching an ordinary football side.

I'd feel like a complete mug. And wouldn't do it.

The questions for me are what is 'X' and what is 'Y'. I have some of the answers, but not all.

Mine too dees 64

And I find it hard to blame them

When I was 5 I was a footy nut. We were crap throughout my childhood.

My boys are 11 and 12 and have no interest in footy despite my mind altering attempts. They won't even come to the footy with me. They went in the early days, but were bored out of their minds and kept their head in a book, or their DS (?) games. I took them to a few family days, but wouldn't even contemplate it now. They were junior members up until this year, but it made no difference.

I kept my interest as a kid when we were crap, but they haven't. It's probably easier to keep children on board when you're winning, but it in the main I suspect it's an individual thing. You either love the game, or you don't.

Unless, of course, you're telling me they swapped clubs ? Mine haven't done that. They just have no interest.

X = 5 more after the majority of the last 42

Y = more wasted drafts, more debt, good players leaving, lack of a superstar for much longer

When I say my support is unconditional it means I'll always have a place for the club and no other. It doesn't mean I'll buy memberships and go to the footy. My rate of attendance is on a sharp decline after the last 6 years. Down to it's lowest of 1.5 this year.

Like you my kids came to a few early games but it appears neither of them are enamored with the Demons. At least we had Robbie Flower growing up, currently they have no one.

lots to like through this thread

And so many familiar themes

Perhaps this is part of what the culture of the club is. Greater than the players or the FD or the CEO.

The expressions of Dland remind me of the companions I have made through the sharing of support for Ds

I also have a soft spot for any club any code wearing the red and blue so its a very deep but hard to define feeling.

My support has changed from follower to member to legend member and now to Dland member and contributor, Dont get to Melb much and limited $$$ stifles my contribution But I am the only mug that picks the d"s in the pub tipping comp, Started as receiving a gesture of scorn but now am respected for that stance and have met fellow demon supporters through it.

I always fare badly in tipping as I tip from the heart not the head and I guess that will always rule with the Dees

Maintain the passion and maintain the fellowship of this site

GO DEES

same here ben. i was first hooked when i was 5 (grade 1). my parents had no interest (irish immigrants).

my kids just didn't have any interest (despite lots of encouragement) nor my wife

that's just how the cookie crumbles sometimes i guess

i don't know where my obsession came from, it just did

luckily, like you my brother is also hooked so I have one family member to talk footy with

I'm now working on the grandson, but he's ony three

i commiserate

X + Y = Z

And I think we know what Z equals.

However, let me introduce to you "A" - it can have a pulling effect in more ways than one. It can generate belief among not only the players, but the supporters. Can be a huge influence in games. It's called a 'star' or 'elite player' for those who have have different rating systems like myself.

We don't know yet if there is an 'A' on the horizon for Melbournefc. But I have everything crossed there is, very soon.

If there isn't, it may be a little harder to bare, but I expect performances to improve, and I'll follow them unconditionally in my support.

As you alluded to in your Blue Sky thread things can change quite quickly in football and a couple of good years drafting and a good coach can change the landscape overnight (which is about 5 years in MFC time) so you never know when it's time to give up, if that's your want. It's like the stock market, there's no warning when you hit the bottom or the top, so you might say enough is enough only to find out that you're on the rise 12 months later.

We've had some pretty poor administrations over the years and I would think this is one if the better ones so with some luck in the draft and some good coaching we might find ourselves in with a shot. So you just keep on hoping and eventually we might get there.

All true.

But I'm not a bottomless pit. I love the MFC, but all too often I dislike it.

    MELBOURNE BUSINESS by The Oracle

In days of old, this week’s Thursday night AFL match up between the Demons and the Blues would be framed on the basis of the need to redress the fact that Carlton “stole” last year’s semi final away from Melbourne and with it, their hopes for the premiership.  A hot gospelling coach might point out to his charges that they were the better team on the night in all facets and that poor kicking for goal and a couple of lapses at the death cost them what was rightfully theirs. Moreover, now was

The Casey Demons have been left languishing near the bottom of the VFL table after suffering a 32-point defeat at the hands of stand alone club Williamstown at Casey Fields on Sunday. The Demons suffered a major setback before the game even started when AFL listed players Ben Brown, Marty Hore and Josh Schache were withdrawn from the selected side. Only Schache was confirmed as an injury replacement, the other two held over as possible injury replacements for Melbourne’s Thursday night fixt

THE MEANING OF FOOTY by Whispering Jack

Throughout history various philosophers have grappled with the meaning of life. Aristotle, Aquinas, Kant, Nietzsche, Schopenhauer and a multitude of authors of diverse religious texts all tried. As society became more complex, the question became attached to specific endeavours in life even including sporting pursuits where such questions arose among our game’s commentariat as, “what is the meaning of football”? Melbourne coach Simon Goodwin must be tired of dealing with such a dilemma but,
