If we trade pick 3 instead of pick 4 there must have been an agreement re Viney. Hopefully not and we Get Viney, Toumpas, Hogan and keep #14

Pick 3 or 4 is irrelevant. If we give pick 3 the draft will be

GWS: Whitfield

GWS: Grundy

GWS: Toumpas

MFC: O Rourke

If we give pick 4 it will be

GWS: Whitfield

GWS: Toumpas

MFC: O Rourke

GWS: Grundy

Also the better pick of the 2 may have been a sweetener so that GWS passed GC a compo in the Martin trade and to pass on Viney

GWS: Give us pick 3 instead of 4 and we will give GC a compo to not bid on Viney and tempt them to take Martin with pick #2

TWR just said can't use pick 4 for MD because it's a compo pick but this would almost certainly have to be wrong. Can't use it for FS but why would there be any restrictions on trades? Particularly since there's been rumours of Dogs using their compo pick (pick 6).

Correct. Compo pick can be traded.

What about 3 &13 for hogan & 12... They get 2 picks in top 13 when they would have only had one, and give up a player they don't have access to anyway and pretty much the same pick they had anyway? Although if they don't take just 3 no reason to upgrade our pick as well...

Here is the big question.

WHAT DO GC GET OUT OF ALL THIS?

Caddy doesnt want to know us? what is their sweetener? no rumour nothing? no players to trade?

The compo pick they got back as part of the pick 2 for Minidraft Jack Martin trade.

Wasnt that like in the 60's?

EDIT - they swapped first round picks,

So yeah that may be it?

I would have thought with them cutting their list severely they would barely reach the 30's?

Oh crap. Well back to 3 for Hogan and 20.

I think you're going to be disappointed if you expect this deal to favour us or be equitable. The minimum we pay will be 3 for Hogan - we'll be the ones adding something I suspect.

I know what you are getting at, but also look at the price for top MD pick was ND pick 2 with something back. Can't see us paying more for ND pick 2 even with a side benefit.

Actually the benefit may be with the other two, as they get their deals done.

I think it is possible that we could get 20 and hogan. The important thing is that GWS need / want badly pick 3. To have a monopoly on the elite players in teh draft this year is key. If they didnt have to trade MD2, they probably wouldnt, as that would also suit them, but they do.

Gold Coast obviously rate Martin more than they do Viney.

Maybe we got wind of this, feigned a bit of interest in Martin and told them if they nominated Viney at #2 we'd pass and use #3 for Martin?

If we get Pedersen and Hogan, I would think Dawes may go on the backburner unless a swap of players or a cheap pick. Still have Clark, Fitzy and Watts plus Howe and Sylvia who can play forward.

Agree- I think Dawes for pick 13 would be a huge mistake, especially when you think Lynch whom you would not pick up for a 3rd round pick is ahead of him.

This is they're GWS last crack at the 4 mini draft picks. Gonski after this.

P3, take it or leave it... If they want P5++, they miss Grundy or Toumpas or others.

    WILDCARDS by KC from Casey

Casey’s season continued to drift into helplessness on Sunday when they lost another home game by a narrow margin, this time six points, in their Round 13 clash with North Melbourne’s VFL combination. The game was in stunning contrast to their last meeting at the same venue when Casey won the VFL Wildcard Match by 101 points. Back then, their standout players were Brodie Grundy and James Jordon who are starring in the AFL with ladder leaders, the Sydney Swans (it turned out to be their last

    LIFE SUPPORT by Whispering Jack

With Melbourne’s season hanging on a thread, Saturday night’s game against North Melbourne unfolded like a scene in a hospital emergency department.  The patient presented to the ward in a bad way. Doctors and nurses pumped life-saving medication into his body and, in the ensuing half hour, he responded with blood returning to his cheeks as he stirred back to life. After a slight relapse, the nurses pumped further medication into the bloodstream and the prognosis started looking good as the

GAMEDAY: Rd 15 vs North Melbourne

It's Game Day and it very well could be the last roll of the dice for the Demon's finals aspirations in 2024. A loss to the bottom side would be another embarrassing moment in a cursed year for the Dees whilst a win could be the spark they need to reignite the fire in the belly.

    THE HUNTER by The Oracle

Something struck me as I sat on the couch watching the tragedy of North Melbourne’s attempt to beat Collingwood unfold on Sunday afternoon at the MCG.    It was three quarter time, the scoreboard had the Pies on 12.7.79, a respectable 63.16% in terms of goal kicking ratio. Meanwhile, the Roos’ 18.2.110 was off the charts at 90.00% shooting accuracy. I was thinking at the same time of Melbourne’s final score only six days before, a woeful 6.15.51 or 28.57% against Collingwood’s 14.5.89

    FROZEN by Whispering Jack

Who would have thought?    Collingwood had a depleted side with several star players out injured, Max Gawn was in stellar form, Christian Petracca at the top of his game and Simon Goodwin was about to pull off a masterstroke in setting Alex Neal-Bullen onto him to do a fantastic job in subduing the Magpies' best player. Goody had his charges primed to respond robustly to the challenge of turning around their disappointing performance against Fremantle in Alice Springs. And if not that, t
