Etiquette on Demonland

Hi people,

I have read several posts and first thing that stands out is the diversity if opinion from who should be coach to the game style, current culture at the club, clearing out the current list, who to keep, who to trade.

I have also noticed topics are randomly locked while others are not. For example an anti Liam Jurrah comment that wouldn't be tolerated in mainstream media is tolerated here but other comments involving mass player cullings or critique of the coach or the direction the coach is taking us are seemingly locked or not tolerated.

Can we say it as we see it or must we go with the general flow or mood of our members?

myself have followed the Dees since my namesake dominated Melbourne's forward line.

a general lack of leadership/inspiration from top to bottom seems to be the crux of melbourne's current problem.

what do we all think about this issue and am i somewhere near the mark of the general consensus?

I think it can be said as it's seen, no one's trying to stop the small group of anti-Neeld's for example, more add the other side to the debate which they seem to want to ignore.

Re your point, we've lacked this since Neitz retired.

It takes a while to get used to this place. Fair to say you need a thick skin and preparedness to be shouted down if your opinion is in the minority. But the positives outweigh the negatives. There are alot of very learned footy people here whose opinions I've fast come to respect. In fact I'd say you'd be hard pressed finding another forum with so many in the one place.

As for Neeld, plenty of threads on that but I'm trying to stay more reserved in my judgement of him til this time next year. I'm not as convinced as some are on here, but he's making the right noises.

hi viney

my point was more about the general etiquette of the site. agree totally about Neitz. lets hope clarke can fill his shoes?

The "anti" neeld posts I have read don't seem "anti" , more questioning the direction of his game style and player management.

take the time as i have to read all posts associated with Liam Jurrah, as it leaves a nasty taste to say the least.

You can be as anti Neeld as you like as far as i am aware. Just be prepared to back it up with something would be my advice and as long as it is fair game, ie no personal attacks or anything you should be well fine to say what is on your mind.

The more diverse opinion the better as a far as i am concerned as long as you can have some substance to the arguement.

Welcome

The post's boasting the sentence "saaaaaaaaaaack neeld now" certainly are anti neeld and there's a handful of members pushing this barrow.

What specifically re the Jurrah posts have left a nasty taste?

And Clark has leadership, skill, courage etc. in spades. I eagerly await him delivering a bone crunching hip and shoulder, picking up the spilt ball and slotting a team lifting goal

D & P welcome, you'll learn to love the place.

RE: Jurrah, one of the downside of so many passionate people in one place is that things get heated, and sometimes the wrong things come out of people's mouths (fingers). Some had very absurd views on Liam, and in hindsight would take it back, some were thankful, some like me were frustrated. On Demonland you cannot take each post completely to heart because you'll be broken in a day. You'll learn to find posters you respect and posters you ignore- I'm sure for some members I'm on the respect list and for many I'm on the ignore. Regardless you won't find a better place for banter, or people who live and breath MFC more than us.

Clutch your breath and come on board. It's one hell of a ride.

hi people,

Hi yourself

as to etiquette; heres everything you would want to know http://demonland.com/forums/index.php?/topic/15-code-of-conduct-moderating-guide/#entry118

sometimes things get fudged a little however ^_^

Consider, re Jurrah, that that was the start of the great unknown that is this trading and drafting period. That alone can cause a surge in the blood pressure & emotions. It was also an unusual and, for a period of time, information-free exit which certainly compounded the issue. Then there's the love of the club. Desperately seeking improvement towards premierships does not sit well with losing a 40+ (at *worst*, IMO) goal a year player.

Then there are those that lack class, empathy, and yes etiquette.

Considering the absolute Garbage year the club & supporters we have had, i reckon this place has held together fairly well..

Imagine if Hawthorn won 30 games in 6 years....Like they used to 50-60 years ago.

Blood would be spilt Game of Thrones style!

hi Jordie!

thankx matey,

why are comments similar to the one below not questioned, blocked and seemingly tolerated? before i began to post i wanted to get a sense of the groups moods, what to say and not to say. Jurrah certainly seems a huge target and given all of the incidents involving him are alleged then how can demonlanders continue to post on the topic obvious to obvious slander of Liam?(please read post below) if I were Liam and happened to read this comment and many other anti liam threads then leaving the club would of be an easy decision to make.

anti Neeld posts can get a little boring I agree but lets face it melbourne only won 3 games this year and the general game style doesn't look great. its going to happen but not soon:) to put it out there i'm a Neeld man but do question many of the things he does. i feel Neeldy will warm into the job but it's going to be a long process and won't happen before 2015.

example of anti liam comment below

"6. Liam Jurrah - its pretty clear that he may be in jail in 2013, but if not I get strong feelings and indications that few under Neeld are happy with his work ethic.comments such as this one above do"

What's the slander of Liam there? It's one poster's opinion. He MAY be in jail and he FEELS Neeld and co. aren't happy with his work ethic

It's not necessarily true or a view shared by everyone but the poster in questions hasn't said "he's a lazy so and so who will be in jail"

intriguing:) to ignore posts is almost like a self censorship? the reason i'm here is to interact and to share diverse opinion not only respond to comments the respected :)

perhaps over time this sentiment will change.

General rule of thumb appears to be - if you dont under stand something or you think the poster is wrong - You

a/ scream he is an idiot and knows nothing about what he is talking about. Especially if you still read the newspapers, because many of the poster in here still read the newspapers.

b/ you scream to the mods to close the thread again because of a difference of opinion - again many times because they have not read it in the newspapers. Therefore it cant be possible.

c/ claim the site is going down hill or the threads are becoming un-readable - again you guessed it - it hasn't appeared in the newspapers.

d/ you will find some posters love self-censoring others by simple bullying tactics

Then they hit the ignore button.

However, other than that the glass is always half full and we are all really Demons supporters at heart.

So enjoy yourself

Welcome D&P.

I'm a relatively new member of 'Land and I came here because all of the people who I used to talk about the Dees with have given up or moved interstate (except for my brother, who has no choice because I buy his membership). I love this site because, frankly, I'll never give up on the Dees and I need somewhere to talk all things Demon without boring my non-Demon friends into avoiding me.

Like you, I followed the forum for a while before joining. There is a fair amount of vitriol here but that's simply because people are passionate. And that's what I love. I think that you'll find that anything that is simply ignorant or repugnant will be quickly pointed out and justly deestroyed by other posters. Stick at it. It's a lot of fun!

Welcome D&P.

You might want to have a look at a few more threads to find the general consensus as to the crux of Melbourne's problems.

Leadership being one of them but clearly that's being addressed and whilst it's not where we'd want to be in terms of experience it shall improve with the two Jacks and the new LG now one season in.

Yes, if there's a place of diverse opinions you want, you've found the right place.

You can say it as you see it, but be sure to have the COC guidelines in mind is my suggestion.

Happy reading.

    EASYBEATS by Meggs

A beautiful sunny Friday afternoon, with a light breeze and a strong Windy Hill crowd set the scene, inviting one team to seize the day and take the important four points on offer. For the Demons it was not a good Friday, easily beaten by an all-time largest losing margin of 65 points.   Essendon threw themselves into action today, winning most of the contests and had three early goals with Daria Bannister on fire.  In contrast the Demons were dropping marks, hesitant in close and comm

    DEFUSE THE BOMBERS by Meggs

Last Saturday’s crushing loss to Fremantle, after being three goals ahead at three quarter time, should be motivation enough to bounce back for this very winnable Round 5 clash at Windy Hill. A first-time venue for the Melbourne AFLW team, this should be a familiar suburban, windy, footy environment for the players.   Essendon were brave and competitive last week against ladder leader Adelaide at Sturt’s home ground. A familiar name, Maddison Gay, was the Bombers best player with

    BLOW THE SIREN by Meggs

Fremantle hosted the Demons on a sunny 20-degree Saturdayafternoon winning the toss and electing to defend in the first quarter against the 3-goal breeze favouring the Parry Street end. There was method here, as this would give the comeback queens, the Dockers, last use of the breeze. The Melbourne Coach had promised an improved performance, and we did start better than previous weeks, winning the ball out of the middle, using the breeze advantage and connecting to the forwards.

    GETAWAY by Meggs

Calling all fit players. Expect every available Melbourne player to board the Virgin cross-continent flight to Perth for this Round 4 clash on Saturday afternoon at Fremantle Oval. It promises to be keenly contested, though Fremantle is the bookies clear favourite.  If we lose, finals could be remoter than Rottnest Island especially following on from the Dees 50-point dismantlement by North Melbourne last Sunday.  There are 8 remaining matches, over the next 7 weeks.  To Meggs’

    DRUBBING by Meggs

With Casey Fields basking in sunshine, an enthusiastic throng of young Demons fans formed a guard of honour for the evergreen and much admired 75-gamer Paxy Paxman. As the home team ran out to play, Paxy’s banner promised that the Demons would bounce back from last week’s loss to Brisbane and reign supreme.   Disappointingly, the Kangaroos dominated the match to win by 50 points, but our Paxy certainly did her bit.  She was clearly our best player, sweeping well in defence.

    GARNER STRENGTH by Meggs

In keeping with our tough draw theme, Week 3 sees Melbourne take on flag favourites, North Melbourne, at Casey Fields this Sunday at 1:05pm.  The weather forecast looks dry, a coolish 14 degrees and will be characteristically gusty.  Remember when Casey Fields was considered our fortress?  The Demons have lost two of their past three matches at the Field of Dreams, so opposition teams commute down the Princes Highway with more optimism these days.  The Dees held the highe

    ALLY’S FIELDS by Meggs

It was a sunny morning at Casey Fields, as Demon supporters young and old formed a guard of honour for fan favourite and 50-gamer Alyssa Bannan.  Banno’s banner stated the speedster was the ‘fastest 50 games’ by an AFLW player ever.   For Dees supporters, today was not our day and unfortunately not for Banno either. A couple of opportunities emerged for our number 6 but alas there was no sizzle.   Brisbane atoned for last week’s record loss to North Melbourne, comprehensively out

    GOOD MORNING by Meggs

If you are driving or training it to Cranbourne on Saturday, don’t forget to set your alarm clock. The Melbourne Demons play the reigning premiers Brisbane Lions at Casey Fields this Saturday, with the bounce of the ball at 11:05am.  Yes, that’s AM.   The AFLW fixture shows deference to the AFL men’s finals games.  So, for the men it’s good afternoon and good evening and for the women it’s good morning.     The Lions were wounded last week by 44 points, their highest ever los

    HORE ON FIRE by Meggs

The 40,000 seat $319 million redeveloped Kardinia Park Stadium was nowhere near capacity last night but the strong, noisy contingent of Melbourne supporters led by the DeeArmy journeyed to Geelong to witness a high-quality battle between two of the best teams in AFLW.   The Cats entered the arena to the blasting sounds of Zombie Nation and made a hot start kicking the first 2 goals. They brought tremendous forward half pressure, and our newly renovated defensive unit looked shaky.
