any chance of a public apology from the MCG over re-starting the Crows song while they chaired Green off? or am I the only one who cared?

Good to see them pitching in for the farce that this year has been for us I guess

It was a totally brainless act from the people responsible and showed a total lack of respect for Brad, I think the Crows players were also embarrassed by it. I intend to ring the MCC about it today and suggest others do the same, they do owe a public apology to Brad.

Was like the final kick in the guts for a miserable season. At the ground where the game and team evolved from that some moron could do that, not once, but twice shows a s pecial kinf of ineppetitude. I've also had a gutful of seeing opposition highlights at qtr breaks. Do they show visitors goals at AAMI stadium? No, don't think so! If they did that at a football ground or ball park in the US they would run the idiots in cahrge of the buttons out of town.

"Much disrespect shown to Brad Green by playing the Adelaide theme song while he was being chaired from the ground. Thanks MCC"

Posted this message on MCC Facebook page last night and received this reply.

Melbourne Cricket Club Hi Kathleen. Thanks for the feedback. We agree with you. While the scoreboard operators were right to play the winning team's song after the game, which is the directive from the AFL, the decision to play it during Brad Green's departure from the field was inappropriate. We'll be discussing this with them in our event review.

Guest King Cuthbertson

It didn't seem like a mistake did it?

I usually leave just after 3 quarter time when we're getting hammered, but I stuck it out for Greeny's last game to see him chaired off at the end. What unfolded was disgraceful, and I hope the scoreboard attendant is put over the coals for it.

After the first playing of it finished, i turned to my gf and said "thank god they're not choosing to play it again"... Well i was wrong

The operator mustn't have liked the silence. Surely he would have got the message when everyone booed the second playing of it... but he just had to go a third WHILE he was being chaired off. Well done to the crows players for cheering him off too

Repect? For Melbourne, from the MCC. Its just not Cricket.

Even Eddie Maquire made several comments about how bad it was. Think he even suggested at one point that, given the occasion of Greeny's farewell, and the MCG being our home ground, that maybe they should have fired up the "Grand old Flag". That guy never ceases to amaze! (In fact, through the course of the game, he made a number of pro-MFC comments! Was starting to think it wasn't the real Eddie, but an imposter!)

But, back on thread. Yes, was a disgrace.

Who cares, it's no worse than the dis-respect his team mates showed with their performance.

Clearly people did care. Are you aksing us to run up the flag in the manner you object to the players doing? Not much we in the stands could do to arrest the mess, but to honor a Champion of the club, at our home ground, it did matter.

Not enough to show up, we would have been lucky to have 14,000 supporters there, it was a disgrace, we whack the MCC but two thirds of our members didn't even show up.

Perhaps you'd prefer those 25000 members not to renew.

Would you rather 14000 members who all show up and stare at an empty ground because the club has folded?

Buying a membership doesnt obligate you to turn up every week, if it did I wouldn't buy one.

No not at all I understand that some by a membership and either can't make the game or any games, it is still a great way to support the club. If a third of our members didn't attend no issue but it was two thirds for our last game in Melbourne and the last game for our club for a bloke that has given his all for 13 years that is more disappointing than a club song being played.

Correct. The fact that you buy a ticket - even though you have a young family and can't make Sunday evening games - makes you a terrific supporter!!

On topic .... it was an appallingly insensitive act by the unthinking twit who was responsible for it. It was an insult to Brad Green and the 10000 plus people who waited back after the siren to acknowledge him - and an embarrassment for the Adelaide players who waited on the ground to salute him

It even made the announcer sound like a spud " Ok - let's hear it one more time for Brad Green" ...... ( "We're the pride of South Australia... " again saluted an expatriot Tasmanian !!)

Yeah they put on Crowded House after he had gone off, would've been much more appropriate for while he was out there.

Totally agree, and I was thinking this on the night. Maybe we should play footage of Gary Buckenara's goal in the 1987 prelim at half time every home game to rev the crowd up?

As for the song, the most offensive thing about it is the tune itself. Not only is it a blatant rip-off of the theme of 1980s computer game classic Captain Cosmo's Cosmic Adventures, but it's an all-round farce of a tune and musical production.

I don't think it's a huge deal, all I was upset about is that they stopped it for a while before realising Green wasn't making his way off for a little longer, so they played it again but didn't stop it again. So it was very amateurish but I wasn't shockingly offended or anything, and Brad has been my favourite player for half of my life

We have a lot of soft supporters, obviously. It didn't go unnoticed by me commenting to those I was with yesterday. However what really helps drive people away from the football is when the AFL (aided by the MCG) sanitises the game as well as the ground. Over the last 10 or so years the football experience has been eroded by those in charge and they need to be held acocuntabel which this thread does.

    BOILED LOLLIES by The Oracle

In the space of a month Melbourne has gone from chocolates to boiled lollies in terms of its standing as a candidate for the AFL premiership.  The club faces its moment of truth against a badly bruised up Collingwood at the MCG. A win will give it some respite but even then, it won’t be regarded particularly well being against an opponent carrying the burden of an injured playing list. A loss would be a disaster. The Demons have gone from a six/two win/loss ratio and a strong percentag

CLEAN HANDS by KC from Casey

The Casey Demons headed into town and up Sydney Road to take on the lowly Coburg Lions who have been perennial VFL easy beats and sitting on one win for the season. Last year, Casey beat them in a practice match when resting their AFL listed players. That’s how bad they were. Nobody respected them on Saturday and clearly not the Demons who came to the game with 22 players (ten MFC), but whether they came out to play is another matter because for the most part, their intensity was lacking an

    ALAS SPRINGS by Whispering Jack

I got the word on Saturday from someone who knows someone inside the Fremantle camp that the Dockers were pumped and supremely confident about getting the W the next day against Melbourne at TIO Traeger Park in the red heart of the country. I was informed that the Dockers were extremely confident for a number of reasons. They had beaten the Demons on their home territory at the MCG at their last two meetings so they didn’t see beating them at Alice Springs as a problem. They belie

    TROUBLE by The Oracle

Situated roughly in Australia's geographic centre, Alice Springs has for many years been a troubled town suffering from intermittent crime waves, particularly among its younger residents. There was a time a little while ago when things were so bad that some even doubted the annual AFL game in the town would proceed.  Now, the hope is that this Sunday’s Melbourne vs Fremantle encounter will bring joy to the residents of the town and that through the sport and the example of the participants,
