Give the guy (and us) a break. You don't go from being second quickest at the draft camp to all kinds of slow in a couple of years without very good reason. There would be a physical reason behind this, perhaps OP or the heavy training loads. Once he has resolved this physical issue, whatever it is, those questioning him now will feel pretty silly.

Was he the second quickest, or is he a marathon runner?

I would be disappointed if he is 100% fit, as his performances don't speak of a player who is 100% fit. But as I said, we have far bigger issues to worry about. Trengove has shown he has the ability to be a decent footballer at AFL level. That puts him above more than half our list, who are yet to reach this threshold requirement.

From his first 2 years I thought he was gonna be an absolute gun. Can you believe that his highest possession game for the year was 23 last week V GWS? 23 and he's played every game this year in the guts. Just has to get his hands on the ball a bit more. If he has problems with his pace he'll have to read the ball from stoppages a bit better. I'd love to see him start getting 25-30 touches. He's still showing some good signs every now and then but he just looks like an average player

Fact is he couldn't go up a gear, he had no explosiveness and its been like that all year. Fair, there is something wrong, obviously, but, and this is maybe out of hope more than anything, I think it's an injury/OP.

If it's not, and he really is 100% fit, then he has a lot of work to do to either lose the weight that is slowing him down, or fix his running style, or do whatever it takes to improve speed. If he can't do that, then he needs to lift his workrate to make up for the slowness.

Strengths: Marking, tackling, skills on right and left foot.

Weaknesses: aerobic ability to get from one contest to run & run to another contests; kicking depth (45metres is his limit), no acceleration.

He has leadership quality and is a great young man. Will need to be over any OP, and have an intense 2013 pre season.

A key to our success. If he fails to flourish, we will continue to be cellar dwellars. He MUST become elite.

I'm a firm believer that he is injured, as many people have noted on numerous threads previously. At worst, he is under a huge training load which will be beneficial in the long term. You don't just 'lose' pace (except when you get old, like me) and you don't just not be able to kick 35m all of a sudden.

While I'm at it, 7th in at MFC marks, 9th in goals, 4th in contested possessions and 6th in inside 50s. The only stat that surprised me was that he is 14th in 1%ers (whatever they are).

Yes, he's not immediately eye catching at the moment, but to say he is ineffective, or worse, that we should get rid of him, is flat out silly.

Your seriously wasting your time on here with half this lot, most have never played and have no idea what they are looking for and would not know what a 1%er was if it hit them in the face

I don't believe that having a © next to your name on a team sheet has any effect on your ability to run quickly.

That said, if he produces another plodder of a season like this one in 2013 I've got no issue with Neeld stripping him of that title.

At the moment Trengove is just another battler. No great going for a no.2 draft pick.

Trengove is slow and has played every single game this season. Those are the only facts at hand. No evidence of an injury at all.

I think you'll see, if you review the objective evidence available, that he has been one of our most consistent players all year.

But of course, sweeping generalisations and mindless repititions of a base statement are easy. Properly analysing the evidence and realising it doesn't support your case is what is unpalatable.

If he was genuinely slow, he would have played like Brock McLean as an 18 year old.
