What you say is clearly not the case. Please read this post as confirmation. There is many more like it. Nothing! Clearly Jack Trengove is extremely promising and IMO is better than Scully. (not that Scully is bad)

I can see what you're saying.

I just don't think that he has been that bad. He's right up there in most of our key midfielder stats, and in my view has dealt with the captaincy really well. It is obvious if you watch him closely that he is working his guts out and doing lots of things that people don't notice. I do agree that he has obviously been labouring, which means he is (1) not running as quickly or (2) not kicking with as much penetration as he usually would.

But you have to view these things as a whole, and I don't think those particular (temporay) limitations overshadow the fact that he has actually had a pretty good season. It is easy to pinpoint 1 kick that doesn't make the distance, or 1 chase where he can't go, while ignoring the 20 other times he touches the ball in a game.

Newsflash: bar the expansion sides we are the worst side in the competition. Jones aside (& Clark for half a season), nobody has lifted their game at all this year. Nobody. By that measure nothing on the list is that 'special'.

The stat about his lack of disposals made me giggle, barely any of our players average 20 or more disposals.

I see Trengove as a potential Jimmy Bartel, plenty of dickwits were writing him off as too slow in his 3rd season too. He was even dropped to the VFL & mooted as potential trade bait. The kid had nothing special. 3 premierships, a Brownlow & Norm Smith, 7 years later for 'nothing special'... JT is arguably ahead of Bartel at the same stage of his career (albeit playing in a far worse team) I have high hopes he can achieve nearly half of what Bartel has by the end of it.

Jimmi, I couldn't agree with you more. All of Trenners strengths would be very useful to a side with a versatile midfield. Sewell and Mitchell are made to look very quick by their midfield at times, but most of the football media and many coaches talked about how slow they were coming into the system. The reality is our team don't block well for eachother, our ball use is clunky at best and our midfield is either one-paced, under-developed physically or has extremely poor disposal depending on which combination you pick. The reality is JT is in our top 6 mids even whilst underperforming, this is how terrible our midfield is and until we draft and trade to rectify this problem he will have no problem keeping his spot. And who knows, maybe with a half decent midfield group around him he will flourish. Hell, Adelaide make a plodder like Van Berlo look good.

I don't believe that having a © next to your name on a team sheet has any effect on your ability to run quickly.

That said, if he produces another plodder of a season like this one in 2013 I've got no issue with Neeld stripping him of that title.

At the moment Trengove is just another battler. No great going for a no.2 draft pick.

I just think you're way premature on this one Rangey. There are many Captains in the league that are not superstars.

It's interesting, Trenners moved a lot better for mine today. He could also kick with a little more penetration against the Crows. I agree he's struggled to get past 35m for most of the year but today and last week he looked better.

The guy is second in tackles, second in handballs and third in overall disposals this year. He can't be doing too badly. Watch how he goes about it on the field. He's always looking to do the team things, sometimes I think a little too much. JT is going along nicely.

Judge him on next year, he showed plenty in his first couple of seasons to say he will be a player. I don't think it's the captaincy that's responsible for him struggling to kick a ball 30 or so metres or to keep up with the play. He was a good kick, a very good kick and had good run, not blistering but good run in his legs. You don't loose this without a reason, injury? training loads?

He is one that I'm not worried about, there are many others on the list that I am.

He still reminds me of a young Bartel. Especially his marking. Watch his speed pick up next year with his endurance training mixed with speed training in the preseason.

Go back and read your posts on this thread. You start off by getting stuck in to Trengove on a very general basis, probably because Range Rover was. Then, when the discussion changes tack towards Trengove being slow, you say that its not about him having a lack of support, it is about him having a lack of pace.

Trengove is slow and has played every single game this season. Those are the only facts at hand. No evidence of an injury at all.

So you're just disregarding his 2010 & 2011 seasons where he showed no signs of being slow? The fact there was such a marked drop-off this year is a sign that something is not right physically, you don't just stop being able to run fast at 21 years old.

Why? Because human beings consistently become faster and stronger until the age of around 26. JT will be a great for the MFC, I have no problem with where he is at. He is a 58 game player. He has another 2 pre seasons to get through before he gets to the same stage as someone like Dangerfield.

I prepared to give him a 4 year apprenticeship and reserve my judgement until then.

No-one's disagreeing about his lack of pace at the moment. It's just some of us look at all the facts including his history and make a reasonable assessment that it is temporary due to factor/s we don't know of while others are running around like Henny Penny shreiking the sky is falling.

How do you account for the fact that his pace/explosiveness declined over one pre-season if not for injury and/or training loads?
