The above poster is already arguing about his best position, which is exactly the reason I say "pass".

I remember Toy and his long kicking from the back-line in juniors, but his two years at GC is hardly showing him in a good light. But more to the point, we have a heap of players on our list who struggle to find a position. Dunn, Bate, Tapscott, Bennell, Jetta, Petterd and even players such as Watts and Grimes haven't made a position their own; although I prefer Grimes as a half back and he's been pushed into the midfield because it's "third world". But I know where Jack Viney is suited from day one. And is Toy too similar to Tapscott and Strauss ? Stop drafting "tweeners".

Can play, but we have more pressing needs.

Yes - disposal is very good, athleticism is very good, speed is very good, fitness is a question mark! How I see it is gold coast needed players that would have trade value and need to get rid of some of their younger guns, can't keep them all, I don't think we will be able to get him, but would be handy to have!

His fitness is my biggest issue he seems to be a carbon copy of gysberts lots of talent with no tank. I'm sure Casey would be happy to have him but his impact at senior level is 2 years away.

I think there was a lot of hype with this kid, but he has some glaring deficiencies.

I think what I was worried about with Darling and Tapscott is actually true of Toy -- he looked good in juniors as a man-child rag-dolling other kids... but against men his main strength is non-existent.

Beyond that he is a booming kick... and I'm not sure what else.

Too similar to Strauss for mine. Just a nice, timid kid with a reasonable turn of speed and beautiful kick.

Not sure he has that 'I'll die before my opponent kicks another goal on me' competitiveness that Neeld loves.

Don't think he's a timid kid but he definitely has the 'game is to be played on my terms' outlook.

He can't find that balance with attacking and defending but we need good kicks in our back half.

Outside the box something like Pick 3,4 + Sylvia? for Caddy, Mckenzie, Toy and Pick 2.

Toy is worth a look at ... Josh Toy in exchange for Petterd and pick #45 (fair deal ??)

Ugh.

With GC needing to trim 10 players from their list, I highly doubt they'll be happy with a "late pick plus spud" deal that also trades 1 list spot for 2.

They are looking to CONSOLIDATE.

We'd be more likely to get Caddy, Toy and a 2nd rounder for pick 4, something like that.

Mark my words...noone will be happy with 'the poodle' josh toy skirting contests accross halfback

I don't think we'd be happy with anyone doing that.

Highly-rated-by-consensus juniors sometimes just don't live up to expectations.

Richard Tambling and Cale Morton case in point. There are countless others.

I don't understand why everyone on here wants to pick up Caddy or Toy?

Pick 13 for Caddy? I think we could get a better players through the draft, he's had one decent game why all the interest?

couldn't agree more, neither have really shown anything at afl level but yet everyone seems to love them. Our picks that we will receive this year should be used on players that will actually move us forward, rather than a 'potentially' good half back flanker and a 'potentially' great inside mid. A player like Ben Kennedy would be much more beneficial to the team and our structures.

If he's keen to leave the Gold Coast, low-ball.

4th-round pick. We'll be laughed out of the room, but at least we won't have been caught overpaying.

probably the true value for caddy considering our pick positions plus f/s should be able to net us 2inside mids as well as 2speedy outside types

  • 2 weeks later...

Would love this guy at our club.. was a star junior and a player i wouldve loved at the club from the get go..

Everyones keen on Josh caddy, i reckon some have mixed him up with this kid..

I definately did.

Josh Toy could be another Mitch Clark and would benefit learning under him too.

Apparently desperate to come back to Vic. His father died a while ago. Strong figure in his life. Wants to be near family.

What?! After the Gold Coast has spend so much money on him and looked after him. They took a put on him and invested so much, we the poor suffering supporters have goven him so much of ourselves and this is what WE GET, the selfish bugger. How could he want to leave them and move to a different city to be closer to his family in a trying family situation??!!!! BASTARD, what about the leadership group! Where is Josh Fraser in all of this, he is somehow mixed up in it for sure, I never trusted that shifty so and so he has been struggling for form and I'm sure he has been in Toy's ear....

HEAVEN OR HELL by The Oracle

Clashes between Melbourne and St Kilda are often described as battles between the forces of heaven and hell. However, based on recent performances, it’s hard to get excited about the forthcoming match between these two sides. It would be fair to say that, at the moment, both of these teams are in the doldrums. The Demons have become the competition’s slow starters while the Saints are not only slow to begin, they’re not doing much of a job finishing off their games either. About the only th

    THE BLOW by Whispering Jack

Narrm’s finals prospects took a crushing blow after the team’s insipid performance at Optus Stadium against a confident Waaljit Marawar in the first of its Doug Nicholls Round outings for 2024.  I use the description “crushing blow” advisedly because, although the season is not yet at it’s halfway mark, the Demons have now failed abysmally in two of their games against teams currently occupying bottom eight places on the ladder.  The manner in which these losing games were played out w

HALF FULL by KC from Casey

It was a case of the Casey Demons going into a game with a glass half full in their match up against the Brisbane Lions at Casey Fields on Saturday. As the list of injured and unavailable AFL and VFL listed players continues to grow and with Melbourne taking all three emergencies to Perth for the weekend on a “just in case” basis, its little brother was always destined to struggle. Casey was left with only eight AFL listed players from who to select their team but only two - an out-of-form

GAMEDAY: Rd 10 vs West Coast

It's Game Day and the Demons have returned to the site of their drought breaking Premiership to take on the West Coast Eagles in what could very well be a danger game for Narrm at Optus Stadium. A win and a percentage boost will keep the Dees in top four contention whilst a loss will cast doubt on the Dees flag credentials and bring them back to the pack fighting for a spot in the 8 as we fast approach the halfway point of the season.

    WARNING by William from Waalitj

As a long term resident of Waalitj Marawar, I am moved to warn my fellow Narrm fans that a  danger game awaits. The locals are no longer the easybeats who stumbled, fumbled and bumbled their way to the good fortune of gathering the number one draft pick and a generational player in Harley Reid last year. They are definitely better than they were then.   Young Harley has already proven his worth with some stellar performances for a first year kid playing among men. He’s taken hangers, k
