Oliver Wines

Did he? That's no good to hear - I wish the kid all the best.

Mrs Robbie nearly shed a tear when we passed on Ollie, I must say I'm glad we got Toumpas but a bit sad we didn't get Wines.

Her new prediction for us next year is 10th instead of 9th.

how would you like to be sentenced to the basket case of Alberton. probably worse than going to Blacktown.

Totally agree. Siberian Salt Mines would have been far better.

Can't believe the dogs passed on him. I mean fair dinkum.

A top young kid, I hope he does really well at the Power. They need all the help they can get.

I'm shattered that the Viney/Wines midfield combo won't ever happen, was really looking forward to that :(

Maybe we can work out a deal

Pundits are saying he has the biggest "go home factor" out of the whole draft.

I would love for a josh caddy situation to happen,

Hell, caddy wanted out after the first year...

Hopefully he doesnt get too messed in the head in 12months lol

Just watched

.

Hard to watch - obviously I don't know him from a bar of soap but he doesn't seem thrilled about heading there. I wish the kid all the best and hope he enjoys his time wherever that may be.

I would be surprised if Wines wanted to leave Port after 2 years. Hinkley has a good rep with players and Wines seems to have the type of commitment clubs want. Unless something goes drastically wrong at Port then I think there might be a few here wanting their cake and eating too. Happy with Jack and Jimmy, look forward to seeing what careers they can build at Melbourne and future duals with Ollie at Port.

Just offer him a contract to come home back to Victoria and play with Jack, when the time is right.

But we need to be going better than Port for that to happen.

Thanks for digging up this thread.I said this back in October and still believe we erred not taking Wines, our only hope now is if he gets homesick a la Josh Caddy, but with the 2 years Wines will have before then,we'd have to give up a lot to get him.

We need to use Pick 4 on the most athletic of the best remaining mids for quick run & spread.

Lewis Jetta carved up the Hawks in the 3rd quarter as Mitchell & Sewell are great within 15 metres of the contest but don't spread well.

Viney isn't that quick either,we need a jet.

Wines was very impressive on Future Stars a few weeks ago,i'd be happy if we take him.

Melbourne should fly him here via a WebJet ticket, rent a Hertz car to get him to the club, then give him keys to a new Opel Insignia, with the boot full of MFC New Balance gear... And just let him know there is a contract in the glove box!

Oh well Ollie, see you in two years.

Sorry to depress everyone but...

"PORT Adelaide is poised to offer rookie sensation Ollie Wines an early mega-contract extension to tie him to the club until at least 2016. In an unprecedented club move for a player six games into his career, the Power has been so impressed by the strong-bodied Wines' early impact that it is already prepared to commit to him long term."

Haha good point.

Yeh I read adelaidenow.com as it's basically the herald-sun without the payroll but it does mean that there are stacks of adelaide and port articles that go into ridiculous hyperbole.

Maybe using Jimmy T's contract as a comparison is a bit sensitive (!) on this site at the moment due to the impatient fans getting paranoid that Oli's off to a better start.

WOW, look at the size of those guns...

i wish ollie wines the best, but i cant say it wasnt killing me watching him tear it up in the first few rounds. its a mild relief to see he's come back to the pack somewhat. now to get Toumpas on the park...

He has a break even of 97 and he'll probably get that as well.

Wines for Priddis is a good trade this week and keep O'meara for another week or 2.

Ollie Wines is a star and all the first year players appear to have dropped off to some extent - other than O'Meara.

I think like most Port players at the moment, Ollie just needs a freshen up.

So Wines has been offered a two year extension on his contract, at 400k a year and not signed.

If we get a priority pick, we should trade one of our top picks to Port for Wines.. And give them a player too..

Wants to come back to Victoria, I'd be happy for this to happen..

    CROSSROADS by The Oracle

Melbourne stands at the crossroads.  Sunday’s game against the West Coast Eagles who have not met the Demons at the MCG in more than ten years, is a make or break for the club’s finals aspirations.  That proposition is self-evident since every other team the club will be opposed to over the next eight weeks of footy is a prospective 2024 finalist. To add to this perspective is the fact that while the Demons are now in twelfth position on the AFL table, they are only a game and a half b

    DELUGE by KC from Casey

The Casey Demons overcame their inaccuracy and the wet inhospitable conditions to overrun the lowly Northern Bullants at Genis Steel Oval in Cramer Street, Preston on Saturday. It was an eerie feeling entering the ground that in the past hosted many VFA/VFL greats of the past including the legendary Roy Cazaly. The cold and drizzly rain and the sparse crowd were enough to make one want to escape to the nearby Preston Market and hang out there for the afternoon. In the event, the fans

    INSANITY by Whispering Jack

Somehow, the Melbourne Football Club managed it twice in the course of a week. Coach Simon Goodwin admitted it in his press conference after the loss against the Brisbane Lions in a game where his team held a four goal lead in the third term:   "In reality we went a bit safe. Big occasion, a lot of young players playing. We probably just went into our shell a bit. "There's a bit to unpack in that last quarter … whether we go into our shells a bit late in the game."   Well
