I think Nev may be a victim of other peoples' expectations to some extent. A lot of people look at him and see a small aboriginal player, so they expect lightning speed, flashy skills and the odd freakish moment. That's just not the sort of player he is. He's a hard, tough, courageous combatant who will fight for the contested ball and do well in traffic. He is more like Brett Kirk than Cyril Rioli.

It seems many Melbourne supporters want every player to run rings around there opponents, rather that thru them..

I haven't been a huge fan of Nev but as has been pointed no real pre seasons under his belt. I thought under Bailey he was used as an outside player but he seems to like throwing what weight he has around the packs. He showed something today.

Barry Prendergast was on record in saying that he believed the FD were playing Jetta in the wrong position, and that he thought he viewed Jetta as an inside midfielder. I guess that somewhat supports what you're saying.

I love Neville Jetta. Gutsy and HAS A CRACK. Also has the pace to get himself out of trouble and can operate in a phonebox.

Kicking has improved, still a little way to go.

With a few games in a row, could become a regular up forward or around the wing.

He's like a Jamie Bennell if Jamie Bennell was not a massive fairy.

Buzzy, like the first part of your comment, but not the last sentence - please try and be aware that playing AFL footy is not for the faint hearted.

He has always had the talent and desire but just has been a ghost due to injuries.

Real shame if he does go, he reminds me of Doggy Brown.

Rapt that Nev has been able to play a few games. He has had a tough run with injury. His tackling and in and under work is quite good. Great effort going back with the flight of the ball. Definitely worth persisting with.

Really like the kid and have for a while, has hardness and desire, which makes an average player a decent asset to the team. Will get an extension fits in to what Neeld wants and don't discount him becoming a mid in the Wellingham mold with a decent pre season and injury free run behind him

Nev Jetta is playing for his career. Yes he showed glimpses today, but more is needed. Lacks the pace as a small fwd so needs to be inside mid... and doesn't get the foioty enough. Next 3 weeks will determine if he stays or goes IMO. 50/50 in my mind.

He's safe for mine. Remember he has never had an AFL preseason to build the endurance that will make him look and play faster. Really he and Tapscott have produced about the same amount.

Hardness at the footy and commitment to win the ball back from opponents should be enough to keep Jetta.

My MFC jumper I wear to games has Nr 39 and one signature on it, so that immediately tells you where I stand on Nev Jetta.......some of the posts here border on the ridiculous but then again everybody is entitled to an opinion.....Nev is not a small fwd he has been put there at the moment because he hasn't got the fitness to play in the middlle or down back although he was moved onto Saad in the last quarter.

Which bit of "you need a full pre season" don't some posters get, it is like Spencer he is getting better each game, the same with Nev, it would be wonderful if next season all 46 players on the list will get through unscathed, unfortunalely it won't happen, both did not do a ore season, it doesn't mean they are crap, and lose the skills they have, it just means they don't have the fitness base to compete at AFL level, but each game they get pushes the up a little bit

Nev will be signed, I for one have no doubt he will be

Good post but i am struggling to see what he is going to build his AFL career. He is not fast and not dangerous by hand or foot. Gutsy yes but I dont see him as a player thats going to hurt opposition sides with his skill level. I certainty dont think he has the skill tricks for a small forward. i am struggling to see which position he can hold down LT. However his work ethic and attitude will probably get him another contract with Neeld at modest $$.

Pretty much agree, he doesn't get enough of the ball for me. Has averaged 12 possessions a game each year with 3 tackles. His career high was in his first year with 24 disposals against Carlton.

Doesn't take a leadership role and plays like a bit player with the occassional cameo. Too date he is just another Melbourne player that leaves too much to too few.
