Trade Sylvia - just do it

had his first kick for the game today in the last quarter, via a free kick. no matter how much you sugar coat it for a player of his ability and salary is inexcusable. is one of the laziest and most self absorbed players on our list, along with his mate who got subbed off. move them both on and cash on our chips while we can

Understandable, but I don't think we would get much for him. I wouldn't part with him for a second round pick in what by that stage of the draft, is a massive lottery.

Sylvia and a swap of first round picks to Port for Boak?

Yes please, where do I sign?

No. Don't get rid of anymore quality players. We need some quality to stay here if we are going to go anywhere.

True. But what is the definition of quality you are using? Neeld likes players that play their role consistently.

Unlike some I still believe in Sylvia but he is one of the few on our list with genuine trade currancy assuming he is not yet a free agent.

You beleive in Sylvia ? What exactly is it you believe he will do ? You seem to indicate a faith in some potential yet unfulfilled. What is it he might do that hes never bothered to do to date ?

What is it ? When will it come and where will it come from...More the point why now/or soon ?

We arent building a wine cellar despite being cellar dwellers. Theres no point having all these fine "players" on the shelf. We need capable if not so well pedigreed ( and thats a debate in itself in reality ) that will perform week in week out.

In other words its fine to have a Grange in your rack but you'll be drinking and requiring a lot more 'decently' priced bottles to get you through !!

His work rate and lack of effort should not be tolerated any longer.

What a joke of a thread. Was obviously playing hurt after the shin problem. Had 8 possesions until the shin issue and very few after it. Our best player over the past six weeks and he has one bad game and it's time to get rid of him?

You need some perspective mate.

There are so many that will leave the club before Sylv this year. Will get another year but would want to make it a bloody good one. Only way he gets traded is if we get a super good deal.

whats it matter..next year..year after..or whenever according to some.

The joke is not that many question his value or authenticity to the job, but that they dont.

I watch him really closely and he's a lazy [censored]. He plays the game on his terms. The difference between his best and worst is massive. With his experience it sickens me.

I know he's a great talent and I know he'll have games where he stars elsewhere and opposition supporters will say "how did they let this bloke go", but I don't care, because he's not a leader. Strong clubs can trade a Sylvia type and go on to win premierships.

I'm done with Col. Seriously that's it with him. I can't watch him float around the field any more. What we want from Col is a red hot effort as his skills can kill the opposition. What we get is half assed crap. Look at Spencer having a dip every week fighting for a new contract. You can see his desire for the footy. It's a shame that one of the best skilled players we have has no ticker and one of the least skilled players has a massive ticker.

Horse [censored]. Has been one of our best in the second half of the year, and although he was ordinary today, there are plenty in the gun before him. Saying that, if a club threw a first rounder at him you would take it, but it ain't going to happen.

Top 15 pick, consider. After that, No thanks.

Listening to neeld interview in triple m prematch was interesting. basically said that injury interupted preseason (calf) followed by the back fracture against port hirt his start to the year but is now pleased with how he's tracking.

Neeld identified the north game when he had a shite first half but turned it around in tbe second as a good sign.

"historically if col has a quiet first half his second wont improve but in that north game he was able to reinject himself into the game and hurt them with his disposal"

earlier in the year i thought he would go (tho i think he should stay) but neeld seems to be coming around and so does sylvia...unfortunately he is ine of maybe half a dozen that would get a run at another club which may mean we see the back of him.

Losing him would be a waste and i think the reason peoplewant him gone so bad is because they are frustrated at wasted potential.

I think the school teacher in neeld will be able to get him to realise this potential and he could well become our answer to daisy thomas

Hi CFH. Are you sure the problem was his ticker & not his back re-injured in Q1? The Heart beats trues' comments in post match discussion said (#37) "Go easy on Sylvia. I think he really hurt his back (again) early in the first quarter and I think the saints went after it at every opportunity from that point on." (& #59) "Very early he went for a mark and got hurt. Was on the southern stand side and he went off. He grabbed his back the minute he went down. When he came back on his opponent took every opportunity to get into his back and Col was less than impressed. Got into a few scuffles as a result."

Got injured in the first.

I don't care either way, I'd just like value in return.

Moloney can go for free though, effin' liability he is, never seen him lay a single tackle that didn't fall into his lap.

These blokes would be Kyle Reimers types at other clubs, for us they're first picked, sick of it.

If we trade him we better do something in FA because we just can't continue to get rid of the big bodies and experience.

I just wish he wasn't such a dunce, but what are you gonna do?

I agree, & think we will trade out a couple of older players & I think at least 2 will retire. one more to come?

So I agree we will have to trade in about 3 mature, to veteran types, who can bring us some special things we lack.

Theres no point trading Sylvia, we wont get a lot for him.

On top of that, we have more than enough kids coming through and add a draft on top of the lot we have now!

Sylvia is exactly what we need - he is potentially elite.

With the improvement of Jones, Grimes, Trenners next year, I'd expect Colin to lift his game.

I was discussing this very topic with my bros today and agreed to disagree he accepts Col on talent when he's hot & I don't cos simply said it's no often enuf, even the yrs where he's played consistently???? Then after a few brews I was trying to mount a case as to why would keep him, and the only thing I cold think of was the experience and leadership in bringing up young players. He simply does not appear to have these attributes on the big stage if his actions could speak words they would be 'me me me'. He or Pettard must go. But probably not both given similarities in their self destructive , enigmatic beauty when they put their [censored] together.

Value where value is due let's get quality or him now while the window is open... Anyone here think we kept TJ Trapper for too long, any similarities... They breed culture.

Seems some people are still not getting it.

We dont need 'potential" anything any more.. We need GOERS

WE need elite, not potential elite

We need midfielders, not potential midfielders

We need forwards , not potential forwards

weve had it up to our ears in potential for a decade and got absolutely NOWHERE.

Its time for players to DO, not be considered potential , or even triers, we need DOERS !!

Sylvia does not do, he exudes "might". Might isnt good enough anymore.

    MEANWHILE by Whispering Jack

… meanwhile, at about the same time that Narrm was putting its feet on the accelerator to obliterate the long-suffering Euro-Yroke combination, I heard someone mention in passing that Kuwarna was leading Waalitj Marawar by a whopping 46 to 1 halfway through the second quarter of their game over in Adelaide. “What is football coming to?” I asked myself.  In front of my eyes, the Demons were smashing it through the midfield, forcing turnovers and getting the footy to their forwards who w

HEAVEN OR HELL by The Oracle

Clashes between Melbourne and St Kilda are often described as battles between the forces of heaven and hell. However, based on recent performances, it’s hard to get excited about the forthcoming match between these two sides. It would be fair to say that, at the moment, both of these teams are in the doldrums. The Demons have become the competition’s slow starters while the Saints are not only slow to begin, they’re not doing much of a job finishing off their games either. About the only th

    THE BLOW by Whispering Jack

Narrm’s finals prospects took a crushing blow after the team’s insipid performance at Optus Stadium against a confident Waaljit Marawar in the first of its Doug Nicholls Round outings for 2024.  I use the description “crushing blow” advisedly because, although the season is not yet at it’s halfway mark, the Demons have now failed abysmally in two of their games against teams currently occupying bottom eight places on the ladder.  The manner in which these losing games were played out w

HALF FULL by KC from Casey

It was a case of the Casey Demons going into a game with a glass half full in their match up against the Brisbane Lions at Casey Fields on Saturday. As the list of injured and unavailable AFL and VFL listed players continues to grow and with Melbourne taking all three emergencies to Perth for the weekend on a “just in case” basis, its little brother was always destined to struggle. Casey was left with only eight AFL listed players from who to select their team but only two - an out-of-form
