Demonland has made the difficult decision to not permit this platform to be used to discuss & debate the off-field issues relating to the Melbourne Football Club including matters currently being litigated between the Club & former Board members, board elections, the issue of illicit drugs in footy, the culture at the club & the personal issues & allegations against some of our players & officials ...

We do not take these issues & this decision lightly & of course we believe that these serious matters affecting the club we love & are so passionate about are worthy of discussion & debate & I wish we could provide a place where these matters can be discussed in a civil & respectful manner.

However these discussions unfortunately invariably devolve into areas that may be defamatory, libelous, spread unsubstantiated rumours & can effect the mental health of those involved. Even discussion & debate of known facts or media reports can lead to finger pointing, blame & personal attacks.

The repercussion is that these discussions can open this website, it’s owners & it’s users to legal action & may result in this website being forced to shutdown.

hello all,

i am looking for some clarification, i wasn't at the game yesterday but was listening in my car on radio driving home, but i heard on SEN that when Cale Morton went off injured he was supposedly jeered or ironically clapped off the ground? is this true? i am in now way a Cale Morton fan but if that is true i think its an absolute bloody disgrace, this is the action of a worst fan you could be, i'd expect it from certain collingwood, carlton or richmond fans. if its true i wonder are these the same fans who failed to turn up last week for Greens 250th, another disgrace. i'll withdraw my statement if this is untrue, as i wasn't at the game. but we are in bad enough strife at the min, the last thing we need is fans acting like this. Support your team or stay at home i say.

Dees for life, through thick and thin.

I was there, I usually sit in the MCC but a mate wasnt a member so we sat in the southern stand.

If there was some cheering or jeering for Cale being subbed off it wasnt noticable from where I was sitting.

Although if it did happen it is disgraceful. I always get stuck into my essendon mates about the way they treated Stanton last year. It would be horrible for us to go down a similar path.

There has been comment on this on other threads

the gist seems to support you that Morton should not have been cheered as he was injured

Some have said didnt know he was injured

Others that it was not cheering an injury but that he had been taken off ablett who he was tagging ineffectually

Others that it was not cheering but moans of exasperation

Given that one poster indicated he had cheered and the response received for that was less than charitable Including being told that they were not a true supporter I doubt wether anyone else will acknowledge hwhat actaully happened

Not being there or even knowing about it it will be interesting to see how the couch people report it.

There were plenty of people around me beside themselves with glee when Cale went off. Not only do our "supporters" get excited about yesterday's abysmal performance, now they are glad to see our players get injured. I can't wait to the end of this season if this sort of rubbish is going to continue.

For what its worth, I thought Cale was okay early yesterday. Ablett had a million possessions in the first quarter, none of which was worth a dime. Ablett was far more effective after Cale went off.

I heard Cale get the ironical cheers when he got subbed off. It was very average of those who did it. I think he should be moved on at the end of the year but I don't like seeing anyone get injured. I will put my hand up and say I joined in the bronx cheers for Didak on Queens Birthday as I thought he had pinged a hammy; Garry Lyon style but regretted what I did when I realized he had actually reaggravated a groin injury.

Pinged a hammy or re-aggravated a groin injury. What's the difference? You still cheered an injury.

I think there is just a lot of frustration in a lot of Demons fans and Cale does tend to cop it more than others. The fact that he is a symbol of our "wasted picks" just draws it to him. It's not cool to jeer anyone off when their injured and clap ironically when they're given the red vest.

Any word on how bad the injury is? Is that his season done (not that there's much left of it)? Probably the end of him at Melbourne if we can facilitate a trade.

I sit in the MFC reserved seats near the bench and it happened in front of me to my right. I don't recall any jeering.

Let's not be too precious about our response to opposition players getting injured. While in almost all cases of injury, the player will be treated to silence or mild applause if they have averted decapitation, I recall Melbourne supporters booing Wayne Carey off the ground on a stretcher in round one, 1997. And let's face it, if Tom scully ever did his knee against us, he'd quite rightly be lucky to escape with a mere ACL tear instead of being speared through the heart with a fan's plastic trident as he left the ground.

People jeered. It was disgusting. Ignorant idiots who couldn't clearly see that he looked like he was in the world of pain. Smarten up supporters.

I was there and people did jeer but I didn't really mind it to be honest. I know it's not the right thing to do and I didn't jeer myself but Morton doesn't deserve to be pulling on the melbourne jumper and he should be delisted at the end of the year. If a simple jeer gets through to the melbourne footy club that we don't appreciate them botching up our draft picks then so be it. He is our whipping boy for a reason!

I agree with this.

I was surprised at 1/4 time that Ablet had it so much. None of his possessions were damaging.

I actaully watched Morton at a stoppage when it was close to where I was sitting, and he actually set up in a way that was going to allow Ablett to possibly win the ball, but if he did it was close to the boundary, and he was in board of that.

It may be that Morton was under instruction to no get caught up and blocked in congestion and have Gary run free, but to allow him possesion in areas that he can be contained and less damaging.

Not sure youll get much support from Freak with this analysis

but it sure shows some consideration

Thanks

I was there in the Members yesterday and I don't recall hearing any jeering when Cale went off. I would have been embarrassed if that was the case. I was however not in the reserved area.

I cheered Magner coming on, nothing to do with Cale, I like Magner, also didn't know Cale was injured, but as I said, my cheering had nothing to do with Cale. I thought we had brought on Magner as we were being smashed in the clearances at the time and I agreed with that descision so I cheered.

Cale is struggling with his demons at the moment. But I wish him well.

The all time champion for suffering jeers when injured would have to be Mathew Richardson at Richmond. Their fans were merciless on him. Usually happened when they were getting pummeled and he was ineffective. When the game was lost he would clutch his hammy or develop a limp and would cop heaps as he winced in agony leaving the ground. Happened many times.

Extremely poor form to knock any player who clearly is injured. I have been a critic of Morton and his game style but I draw the line at jeering a player who is injured.

This reflects very badly on the individual and says plenty about some supporters.

I hope Cale Morton recovers quickly but I still maintain I don't like and never have his game style and football approach.

Pinged a hammy would relate to a subpar level of fitness, something that he would be easily able to influence.

You are a disgrace and anyone else who thinks it's okay to jeer a Melbourne player in obvious pain should be banned from this site.

Give yourself an uppercut you tool.

I was in my usual spot on the outer of the southern stand and there was a bit of noise when it was announced Morts had been subbed off, but to be fair, no one in that area had any idea he was injured, most thought he had just been subbed off because Gazza was killing him, and the noise was more kind of groans and bemusement, not cheering or jeering.

LEADERS OF THE PACK by The Oracle

I was asked to write a preview of this week’s Round 8 match between Melbourne and Geelong. The two clubs have a history that goes right back to the time when the game was starting to become an organised sport but it’s the present that makes the task of previewing this contest so interesting. Both clubs recently reached the pinnacle of the competition winning premiership flags in 2021 and 2022 respectively, but before the start of this season, many good judges felt their time had passed - n

Demonland Trackwatcher Kev Martin was on hand at Gosch's Paddock for Monday's training session and made the following observations. About 38 to 40  players down at training.  BBB walking laps.  Charlie Spargo still in rehab, doing short run throughs.  Christian Salem has full kit on and doing individual work with a trainer. He is is starting to get into some sprints. I cannot see Andy Moniz-Wakefield out there. Jack Viney and Kade Chandler have broken away from the

    DISCO INFERNO by Whispering Jack

Two weeks ago, when the curtain came down on Melbourne’s game against the Brisbane Lions, the team trudged off the MCG looking tired and despondent at the end of a tough run of games played in quick succession. In the days that followed, the fans wanted answers about their team’s lamentable performance that night and foremost among their concerns was whether the loss was a one off result of fatigue or was it due to other factor(s) of far greater consequence.  As it turns out, the answer to

TIGERS PUNT CASEY by KC from Casey

The afternoon atmosphere at the Swinburne Centre was somewhat surreal as the game between Richmond VFL and the Casey Demons unfolded on what was really a normal work day for most Melburnians. The Yarra Park precinct marched to the rhythm of city life, the trains rolled by, pedestrians walked by with their dogs and the traffic on Punt Road and Brunton Avenue swirled past while inside the arena, a football battle ensued. And what a battle it was? The Tigers came in with a record of two wins f
