This wasn't a trial. It was a committal hearing. Proceeding to trial is not the best result for Liam but it's important for people to understand the Magistrate has not formed a view as to Liam's guilt or otherwise. All the Magistrate has determined is that there is sufficient evidence for a trial to proceed. That evidence will be tested in a proper trial at a later date.

That's how I interpreted it, it wasn't a trial to determin guilt, it was to determin whether the evidence was worth being heard by a jury. Fact is we have heard the evidence through the papers, there may have more said than reported or put into better context. From the outside it sounds like he has a good chance to cast reasonable doubt on the evidence, but we don't know enough.

No agenda here. The case is based on a person called Basil who sustained a gaping hole in his head and several deep slices to his face claiming dear cousin Liam and his mates did it. A very serious allegation. More than enough base evidence to go to trial when the victim of the assault identifies his assailants. Trial is a very different matter and there has been enough confusion, contradiction, boozy recollections and legal gobbledygook thrown in that it may well be impossible to prove without doubt cousin Liam actually did it. The law seeks proof without doubt and nothing less especially in such a high profile case with nationwide scrutiny. I think Liam may end up being our very own OJ Simpson.

Selecting an acceptable but fair minded and impartial jury will be a monumental task and I doubt any one group will be satisfied

I don't even know if it has to be a jury trial

It might be one of those case where a trial by judge would be better (for Liam that is)

Its gone to trail because there is enough evidence. It doesn't mean that we don't have a massive chance of winning.

On an appointed day the court will instruct a date for the actual trial.

i.e on one day they announce the date ( another day ) when it will actually start.

I noticed the cut to basil's head (top rear) was described by the prosecution and media as a very deep cut all the way to the bone.

Given the scalp is about 1/4" or less in this area it seems a bit of hyperbole to call this a very deep cut

Although the Simpson verdict was not guilty it is widely believed that he was in fact guilty. Thus your reference suggests that you believe Liam will get off despite being guilty. That's at least how I read it.

Civil cases weight in favor of balance of probability rather than undeniable proof which is required in criminal trials to obtain a conviction. Hope that clears your confusion. Liam is lucky that he does not have to be judged on balance of probability for this matter.

PS. I am sure you would have a different opinion of him if he still played for the filth.
