Posting unsubstantiated rumours on this website is strictly forbidden.

Demonland has made the difficult decision to not permit this platform to be used to discuss & debate the off-field issues relating to the Melbourne Football Club including matters currently being litigated between the Club & former Board members, board elections, the issue of illicit drugs in footy, the culture at the club & the personal issues & allegations against some of our players & officials ...

We do not take these issues & this decision lightly & of course we believe that these serious matters affecting the club we love & are so passionate about are worthy of discussion & debate & I wish we could provide a place where these matters can be discussed in a civil & respectful manner.

However these discussions unfortunately invariably devolve into areas that may be defamatory, libelous, spread unsubstantiated rumours & can effect the mental health of those involved. Even discussion & debate of known facts or media reports can lead to finger pointing, blame & personal attacks.

The repercussion is that these discussions can open this website, it’s owners & it’s users to legal action & may result in this website being forced to shutdown.

Our moderating team are all volunteers & cannot moderate the forum 24/7 & as a consequence problematic content that contravenes our rules & standards may go unnoticed for some time before it can be removed.

We reserve the right to delete posts that offend against our above policy & indeed, to ban posters who are repeat offenders or who breach our code of conduct.

WE HAVE BUILT A FANTASTIC ONLINE COMMUNITY AT DEMONLAND OVER THE PAST 23 YEARS & WE WOULD LIKE TO CONTINUE TO BE ABLE TO DISCUSS THE CLUB WE LOVE & ARE SO PASSIONATE ABOUT.

Thank you for your continued support & understanding. Go Dees.

Cam Bruce # 32 announces retirement from AFL.

You are one of the perennial whingers on this site about MFC performance. Now you want to complain that we did not gift 2 years to a player who was not up it. Talk about sucking both ends of the straw!

How stupid were MFC to offer Bruce over the odds money?? He shot through because he could not get the 2 years he wanted. He left for less money at HFC. Makes a lie of your fantasy.

If there is anything worse than MFC's on field performances its the mean small minded attitude of its supporters to former players who are life members (10+ years), Bluey winner and 15th most games at the Club. If he cant be welcomed back at the Club then Demetriou is right.

I cant wait for the snide comments that occur when Green finally retires in 8 weeks.

FWIW, Bruce had a stellar career at MFC for bloke who came off the 1999 draft at pick 64. Deserves greater regard for his efforts.

Will no doubt be welcomed back to the club

Just hope that an appropriate amount of water has gone under the bridge before it happens

Some supporters have very short memories

Some supporters have very short memories

I'd be hard-pressed to give Bruce stick for leaving the club 12 months after we knifed Junior out the door.

It was a sad end at the MFC followed by a sader end today. He deserves more in retirement and would have got it as a Demon. It makes me wonder and reflect how bad the Bailey years were. Modern (MFC) greats at other clubs and a complete rebulid (culture, fitness and game plan) after the promised rebulid. Damn the Careers section in the Age.

When Bailey came to the dees we were broke. He had no football department money to speak of and nothing like the support staff and coaches of the better clubs. The "culture rebuild" is on with Neeld because we're out of debt and the price of skimping on football department matters has never been so obvious. Players like Bruce got caught up in the free fall we were in. I hope he returns in some way , would love to have him back around the place. Just not teaching the kids how to kick!

Do not agree he was pushed out in not too dissimilar fashion to McDonald.

Treated poorly IMO.

cant agree with you OD. Cam did his usual trick of wanting a better deal than warranted and this time was called out for it. Previously he was paid overs in a big way.

Quite frankly whilst he will of course be welcomed back to the club as a past player I really couldnt give a fig. He rolled the dice a number of times. He can wear it.

A very over rated player in th emain , esp after his coming together with a certain other player.

Some may see this as harsh., I just dotn see all of MFC history through ultra rosey glasses.

Good luck Bruce, you deserve that at least

He should be welcomed back tomorrow. Its the peanut supporters with the short memories that shouldnt be welcomed at all.

I don't blame him for his stance, and I don't blame the club for its stance either. Both parties looked after their own interests, they didn't align, Cam went.

Best of luck Cam and thanks. It's a shame that you and the MFC parted ways in the manner you did, but I guess not all relationships break smoothly. I hope you look back at your time at the MFC positively; and I reckon you deserve much more respect than you get from some around here. It would've been good to see Greeny and co chair you off the field after one last game rather than decaying at Box Hill, but such is life.

It's interesting that a different opinion has got you all riled up and emotional.

It's a pity that we didn't get a few more so called emotional supporters along to Etihad on Saturday.

LOL.

Actually its very matter of fact view.

I would have those that cant accept a long term player at MFC back at the Club who left, are riled up and emotional.

Better not respond until you have let sufficient water go under the bridge.

'Landers reacting like it's a Gerard Healy level betrayal...it's embarrassing. The MFC and Cam pursued what they both considered beneficial policies, Cam got his knickers in a knot and Hawthorn provided a nice landing spot for a couple of years. In the scheme of things not a big deal.

Played 200+ games for the club, and while we may have a quibble here and there, he was one of the guys you'd mention when talking about a particular era at the Melbourne Footy Club. Welcome back brucey, glad i never need to see you kick again! but thanks for the memories.

In addition, wore the red and blue tie to Jimma's funeral, thought it was a nice touch, class act.

except for the actuality that Bruce had history of holding the club to ransom. Jnr never did and I respect him for it and feel for the nature he was released.

Cam got his ..... such is life, so be it etc

It actually annoys me that the handling of these two are often seen as deserving equal viewing.

Regardless of how things ended, he was a great servant to the club as the sats posted earlier suggest. Wishing nothing but good things for old 'Tracky Dacks'. had some sublime moments especially In the early 2000's was regularly compared to J Hird in the early days.

Hope anyone with a beef over how/why he left for Hawthorn gets over it and welcomes him around the club/MCG in years to come

I hope he can reconcile with the club and be welcomed back into the fold.

We need people like Bruce and Junior around our club.

He was a great player of the MFC maybe he could bring Yze with him.

Hawthorn has a very distinct MFC flavor about it Clarko, Yze, Bruce.

this guy came to us at pick 64, and in 11 seasons he finished in the top9 of the B+F 10 times (all except his first year). That includes finishes at 1st, 2nd twice and 3rd. If anyone currently on the list finishes their career having given us us service like that I will be happy.

pft. who doesn't? I thought it was well understood by anyone with a clue that loyalty is not expected of anyone, it is all about getting every cent you can. if you don't believe that I have three names for you: Ablett, Judd and Scully

loved it when he tagged Hird. Took him out of the game and racked up some good stats himself.

I will always remember him as a Demon. He ended upbhaving a [censored] fight with Chris Connelley didnt he?

All the best.

Best thing he did in years was decide to leave, saved us all a lot of frustration, some coin, and saved a few of our players from a visit to Epworth.

I'm thankful for his service in the earlier years, not so much the latter years.

More the exception than the often Bub.

I not sure you can make any knowledgeable assessment of contractual negotiations Bub on either player unless you were there.

McDonald was a better leader than Bruce.

    MELBOURNE BUSINESS by The Oracle

In days of old, this week’s Thursday night AFL match up between the Demons and the Blues would be framed on the basis of the need to redress the fact that Carlton “stole” last year’s semi final away from Melbourne and with it, their hopes for the premiership.  A hot gospelling coach might point out to his charges that they were the better team on the night in all facets and that poor kicking for goal and a couple of lapses at the death cost them what was rightfully theirs. Moreover, now was

UNDER THE PUMP by KC from Casey

The Casey Demons have been left languishing near the bottom of the VFL table after suffering a 32-point defeat at the hands of stand alone club Williamstown at Casey Fields on Sunday. The Demons suffered a major setback before the game even started when AFL listed players Ben Brown, Marty Hore and Josh Schache were withdrawn from the selected side. Only Schache was confirmed as an injury replacement, the other two held over as possible injury replacements for Melbourne’s Thursday night fixt

THE MEANING OF FOOTY by Whispering Jack

Throughout history various philosophers have grappled with the meaning of life. Aristotle, Aquinas, Kant, Nietzsche, Schopenhauer and a multitude of authors of diverse religious texts all tried. As society became more complex, the question became attached to specific endeavours in life even including sporting pursuits where such questions arose among our game’s commentariat as, “what is the meaning of football”? Melbourne coach Simon Goodwin must be tired of dealing with such a dilemma but,
