olisik made a good point in the Under 18 carnival thread about Toumpas, Stringer and Wines.

I don't watch the under 18s very often but looking at today's game I would go with:-

■ Toumpas;

■ Stringer; or

■ Wines

and our inside players are not there yet either.. lets just maintain we get tough players inside or outside, they should LUV a physical contest first, before the other non-negotiables.

you can always find a spot for a player who wants to compete hard. our depth, still has room for more hard players

Toumpas seems to have fallen out of favour badly with coaches. He was doing OK for a while there mid year.

I think his trajectory is solid enough to hold onto hope. Those decision making errors are frustrating but often the creative thinkers get caught in ugly positions early in career. He was tackling better this year and working inside more. I think another year could see a solid inside creative goal kicking mid emerge. Will never be fast but could make up for it with other attributes.

We did well with Kent and Viney in that draft. Considering where both were taken, I think we did well with those 2. In regards to Toumpas, I'd be keen to cut him loose for a second round pick. I think we could cash him in for a second round pick, use it on Lovell or Gresham, that would be the way to go.

All I would say is this. Wines wanted to come to the MFC. Prayed, pleaded, everything. To make matters worse, Port Adelaide have annointed him as next captain in his first year, ala Selwood at Geelong.

For a club that had no inside contested youth. For a club that has difficulty being a destination club. For a club that has been bereft of leadership. For a club that has difficulty retaining players. Surely, this was a no brainer.

Yes, we need to move on. But we also need to applaud those Demonlander's who picked it before the fact. Read my thread on brotherhood, Wines & Viney before the draft.

If this was another era, we would have blamed Toumpas's slow rise on our "development" inadequacy at the club. That is another debate for another day.

That was an up and down trade and draft period - I remember being emotionally invested in Wines and then turning on a dime to support Toumpas - I think we all hope we can salvage a player there...

But getting Hogan for ND3 (and a slide from ND13 to ND20) and Viney at ND26 are huge wins.

Those two competitive blokes will drive the club for a decade.

*Those that immediately thought "if we can keep Hogan" - that is the negative mindset that irritates Roos.

It doesn't make sense - unless you grew up a Melbourne supporter it would be the absolute last place you would want to end up, you are diving into a career of losses, small crowds in bad timeslots and stilted development

I've always thought Stringer could be the best of his draft year, there was so much upside for him.

I hope we can identify someone with upside this year but as 'Macca' says, the draft is a bit of a raffle.

191cm 95gk who who like Stringers kicks goals when he plays the key forward role but also can be thrown in the midfield and play as that big bodied midfielder like Josh Kennedy.

Yep, I wasn't overly impressed by any of the players tipped to go in the top few but admittedly that's on limited viewing. Given that, to me it's players with some real upside that I would be looking at. Curnow is one and I think Balic is another.

Weiderman could be a good get from all reports, I don't know much about him. Can anyone tell me bit more, is he mobile? can he play the 2nd ruck role?
