Will Moloney be offered another contract at MFC?

If current form continues, I say no.

If he can find form for the rest of the season, and asks for a contract that we consider to be "overs" I think we could let him walk to GC/GWS- He can be replaced by a Couch, or a "moneyball" player (love that term)

Either way, I think Moloney is a problem, and I wouldn't be surprised if this was his last year with us. I have a feeling he will either not be offered another contract, or will walk to whoever wants him. Have to admit, I am a little ambivalent about this one.

I hope the club has learnt the obvious lessons from not offering Junior another contract.

Some players are important to a club in more ways than simply racking up possessions each week.

Moloney won the B&F last year. He can play well, even though he's not had a great season thus far.

He has also been a committed Demon. He should be re-signed.

Why the hate for Moloney? has given good service, I think a two year contract is still totally acceptable, this is way premature, and unreasonable.

Lets not bring Junior into this.

I don't know how important to the club Moloney is apart from the possessions he brings us. I know this sounds increadibly harsh, but it's time to toughen the [censored] up. He is slow and doesn't have a defensive bone in his body.

Viney will make him obsolete. Take the MFC glasses off and take a clinical approach to it. Bleeding red and blue is noble, but sentiments aren't going to win games.

No one gets a contract unless they deserve it based upon current ability , merit and application. NO ONE

This has been our problem in past years we get all soft and gushy.

Its not up to us...Its up to Brent to show cause to the club why he should be re-signed

Moloney is an absolute liability as soon as the ball is in anything other than a really congested contest.

I thought he lurched between good and very poor last year and was shocked that he won the B&F. I think he's been significantly worse this year.

Completely understand the "bleeds red and blue" argument, but this isn't the kind of player you can rest in a forward pocket or give a defensive job to. He can only play in the middle, and for me he is currently our fifth or sixth best midfielder. Jones, Grimes, McKenzie, Trengove and Sylvia are already well ahead of him. Gysberts and Blease soon will be.

I think that Moloney is at heart a simple footballer. A bit of a dinosaur perhaps who is being overtaken by the changes in the game. He's an old dog who only knows one way and just can't get his head around learning new tricks. We know he can play so maybe it's time for Neeld to let the old dog of his leash and let him fetch that ball. I still believe he has something to offer.

Maybe, but not tomorrow. I think that he should be offered another contract but if he feels it's unfair and he wants to walk then we don't try and stop him. That said I'd like to see what the rest of the year brings. Some of the players are only now getting up to speed with the new systems and maybe his understanding is not far away.

He needs to significantly lift his game in order to have a contract renewal. His current output does not warrant it and I'm not prepared to attribute it to Neelds game plan and Brent playing his role. He's struggling to adapt to it.

If he really loves this club and wants to see it succeed, he should sever ties and move on at years end if the status quo hasn't changed.

While I still hope he can regain form, I hold serious concerns that he just doesn't have the footy smarts to make it.

Neeld understands the importance of having some hard nuts in and around the contest. That's why we brought in Magner and Couch.

I don't reckon he'll be desperate to show Brent the door - he has more class than many of the other hard nuts on the list.

That said, it doesn't mean Neeld won't be knocking down the door to recruit a few speedy, elite level midfielders at the end of this year.

But all good lists require balance and depth, and I think Brent still has something to offer us.

Junior and Moloney are apples and oranges. Junior was still playing good footy up to the point of his delisting. He was dropped because they felt that he wouldn't be part of the next premiership team and was standing in the way of another youngster. Moloney is playing very ordinary football at the moment.

Nothing against Beamer, But IMO, all our players who enjoyed the high life under Danners reign, have all seemed to struggle with attitude recently.

I think the sooner we clear nearly all from that era, the better for us going forward.

Everyone else gets extensions and credit due to new game plans etc, but some of you 'Landers just can't be happy unless you're bagging out your favourite punching bag Beamer.

Should be locked in for a further two years asap, is important to our development despite what you loungeroom experts think (Neeld hasn't dropped him, what does that tell you?!).

Just ridiculous panic seeking and typical quick bashing.

Apart from missing half the season with a dodgy hammy. NOT that I'm saying Junior should have been shafted, but he was 34(?). Moloney might not be giving us much, but he is significantly younger than that, has plenty of footy left, and I think he will recover that form eventually. It is just too early in this phase of rebuild to turf big bodies out on their ear, especially given previous experience getting rid of players and especially given that we'd only be doing it to bring in a Couch or similar type who, let's face it, aren't exactly Chris Judd either.

He is a shoe in for a new contract, and, even if he isn't getting 30 touches a game, I think he brings something to the table.

ps- Jamar has been rubbish this year yet somehow scored an extension, should he be gone too? If all we're doing is going on current form, I hope everyone has a good game in the last round, otherwise they'll all be dumped....

As I said earlier, I hope he comes back into some great form. I just don't think he can and current form suggests as much.

Jamar was hardly rubbish but I raised my eyebrows at the extension.

Hope he and Brent can get back to the clearance duo they once were.

Current form....

One Win!!! Does not a Winter warmer.

We've got a long way to go to get this club into Real finals shape. The list still has a lot of work needed.

Thinking we've made it after beating GWS on a bad day is nothing.

UP IN LIGHTS by Whispering Jack

Those who watched the 2024 Marsh AFL National Championships closely this year would not be particularly surprised that Melbourne selected Victoria Country pair Harvey Langford and Xavier Lindsay on the first night of the AFL National Draft. The two left-footed midfielders are as different as chalk and cheese but they had similar impacts in their Coates Talent League teams and in the National Championships in 2024. Their interstate side was edged out at the very end of the tournament for tea
