Demonland has made the difficult decision to not permit this platform to be used to discuss & debate the off-field issues relating to the Melbourne Football Club including matters currently being litigated between the Club & former Board members, board elections, the issue of illicit drugs in footy, the culture at the club & the personal issues & allegations against some of our players & officials ...

We do not take these issues & this decision lightly & of course we believe that these serious matters affecting the club we love & are so passionate about are worthy of discussion & debate & I wish we could provide a place where these matters can be discussed in a civil & respectful manner.

However these discussions unfortunately invariably devolve into areas that may be defamatory, libelous, spread unsubstantiated rumours & can effect the mental health of those involved. Even discussion & debate of known facts or media reports can lead to finger pointing, blame & personal attacks.

The repercussion is that these discussions can open this website, it’s owners & it’s users to legal action & may result in this website being forced to shutdown.

WE HAVE BUILT A FANTASTIC ONLINE COMMUNITY AT DEMONLAND OVER THE PAST 23 YEARS & WE WOULD LIKE TO CONTINUE TO BE ABLE TO DISCUSS THE CLUB WE LOVE & ARE SO PASSIONATE ABOUT.

James Sellar - good pickup

I canned this bloke in the first two months!

However he has showed a bit over the last three weeks.

The next 10 weeks will be interesting.

I might have to eat humble pie.

As did I. You might have to save me a seat at the humble pie stop. Apple and rhubarb for me. It's sweet and has some bite to it.

Be prepared to share it.

I'm sure Slooniewhateveritis will choke on it.

Don't know where that came from. He was crap then and I called a spade a spade. Always happy to eat humble pie. You know the saying "happy to be proven wrong?" well I never say it because obviously it is always implied.

But lets not get too far ahead of ourselves- let's see him more, and against top teams. He might squeeze my boy Martin out of a gig. Just to clarify I am happy for whatever serves the team best. Slooniewhateveritis is for MFC, not Slooniewhateveritis..

what are peoples thought on jimmy sellar this year? i thought he has had a pretty good year filling in ruck and playing up forward and also in the backline. i hope they give him 2 years because he is still only 23 and you can see he is starting to get confidence in him to relise he can play AFL, something he didn't have at adelaide. i still think his best position is in the backline.

just on a side note i caught up with a very close friend of mine from adelaide from sanfl days and we watched the game against gws and he knows sellar really well. james battled depression in his days at the crows and it didn't help that he didn't get much of a support from his father who apperently gave him a spray for not pcking volleyball ( captained australia under 19s) wanted to quit and do his apprenticeship. reckons the best thing he ever did was come to the dees and get out of adelaide. told me for the first time since his jnr days james is enjoing his footy and wants to really make the most of his chances. loves the club and the players and even though he has been at the club for a year he is forever greatful for the second chance loves the club more then he ever did at adelaide during those years at the club.

I have to say I enjoyed seeing Sellar link up with Howe for the first goal of the game against the GWS. Moves pretty well for a big man (quick in a straight line at least)

Certainly not the worst player this year, and I think he should get another contract. I doubt we would have to pay a huge amount for his services.

I would be very surprised if we didn't offer him a new contract. The reality is that we don't have many KPP who can play at both ends and pinch hit in the ruck, also apart from the fact that he's actualy improved quite a bit over the season. IMO crazy to delist him now.

Sellar has heaps of upside and the struggle at, then being dropped by AFC, means he has the critical ingredient, Hunger. A couple of Neeld's pickups from last year have that ingredient i.e. Magner, and Couch.

He drops some marks he should hold, yet rarely gets beaten. Is versatile with a big body, able to play ruck which means Clake should rarely have to pitch hit in the ruck.

Another preseason, confidence and a bigger engine and we may have a regular 22 player.

I am a fan.

All kings were once Jacks...

I'd also see him as a plan B Big forward, if the Cloke trade falls through.

He is now doing what is asked of him.....not the best on the list but to me a definite keeper for versatility and depth if not more.

I think that Neeld will be very happy with his "roles" and discipline.

Well, you can't keep hoarding too much spare stock, unusual to lose all of Gawn, Jamar and Clark, and there is Fitzpatrick as well, ... ok I'm convinced keep Sellar.

We would be stupid to let him go. We don't have an abundance of talls and he is playing his role really well at the moment. At 23 he is only going to get better.

Not that I'm saying we should let him go, but I'm sure I've heard (anecdotally) that we have one of the tallest lists in the league.

Although, to be fair, we do have 5-6 players who are 192cm tall, and therefore will clearly never make it.

I'm not easily impressed by footballers, but there's just something about this bloke. He's a heart and soul type - do anything for his team mates, particularly the dirty work that the layman doesn't notice or understand. Now that will only get an individual so far and a club can only have a small amount of that type.

But I think he's a beauty. He's like a pure bred dog thats been unloved and untrained. Give him a new owner who puts the time in and watch him flourish.

I'll be gutted for the kid if he gets the flick, and filthy on the club. Surely there's enough lazy, unaccountable deadwood in front of him. Surely.

Sellar has a 100% crack at it. He will be even better when he holds those 90% marks he almost takes.

At the game on Sunday, I commented to one of my sons that I was surprised at how hard Sellar attacks the ball in the air. As you say, he needs to start clunking some but as a potential pack splitter or deep gorilla forward, I think there is something there to work with.

I'd certainly give him another year. And to Bluey's point - I'd trade Martin now while he retains trade value.

Earlier in the year I said he only needed some confidence and to grab a few marks and he would be ok, which he did; now he needs to step up to the next level.

I reckon he's got it in him and he is, in reality, only in his second year of AFL, he had 8 games with the Crows and has had less than a season with us, give him another pre season and some direction where to play, I reckon he is better in the backline, and he could be very valuable for us.

I also think Neeld likes him and I would be very surprised if he doesn't get a contract.

OVER YET? by KC from Casey

The Friday evening rush hour clash of two of the VFL’s 2024 minnows, Carlton and the Casey Demons was excruciatingly painful to watch, even if it was for the most part a close encounter. I suppose that since the game had to produce a result (a tie would have done the game some justice), the four points that went to Casey with the win, were fully justified because they went to the best team. In that respect, my opinion is based on the fact that the Blues were a lopsided combination that had

Our game is one where the result is often decided by centimetres; the touch of a fingernail, a split-second decision made by a player or official, the angle of vision or the random movement of an oblong ball in flight or in its bounce and trajectory. There is one habit that Melbourne seems to have developed of late in its games against Carlton which is that the Demons keep finding themselves on the wrong end of the stick in terms of the fine line in close games at times when centimetres mak

    MELBOURNE BUSINESS by The Oracle

In days of old, this week’s Thursday night AFL match up between the Demons and the Blues would be framed on the basis of the need to redress the fact that Carlton “stole” last year’s semi final away from Melbourne and with it, their hopes for the premiership.  A hot gospelling coach might point out to his charges that they were the better team on the night in all facets and that poor kicking for goal and a couple of lapses at the death cost them what was rightfully theirs. Moreover, now was

UNDER THE PUMP by KC from Casey

The Casey Demons have been left languishing near the bottom of the VFL table after suffering a 32-point defeat at the hands of stand alone club Williamstown at Casey Fields on Sunday. The Demons suffered a major setback before the game even started when AFL listed players Ben Brown, Marty Hore and Josh Schache were withdrawn from the selected side. Only Schache was confirmed as an injury replacement, the other two held over as possible injury replacements for Melbourne’s Thursday night fixt
