I think we will definitely give up a first round pick for an experienced player.

I have mentioned targeting Sidebottom & Beams and passing on Cloke in another topic.

But Beams should be a priority for the Dee's with Sidebottom close to signing with the Pies. Especially having already worked closely with Neeld.

I'm thinking $500K a year for 4 years should do it and Pick 13 & a player for the Pies.

I also rate Wellingham highly and would target Koby Stevens also.

If nothing else we would be the most illustrated team in the comp.

$500K wouldnt go near.

i think he would be around $350-$400 at the Pies - why would he leave for $500K ? we snared mitch becuase we offered buckets more than the Lions.

If we want Beams or Sidebottom we will have to fork out big time

Nut bean given the choice of $300 at the pies and the chance to play in multipule GF or $500 at the Dees and get beaten most of the time over the next couple of years with little chance of playing in a GF in life of your contract, which would you take?

I agree it will take a lot more than $500 to get it done.

according to todays Hun they reckon Collingwood would be offering (affording) only 250k (each) for Beams and Sidebottom

beams is good but he certainly is not worth $500k per year, He has been doing the pre seasons for 4 or 5 years now that our boys have only done for the first time. i would sound him out but not for thee amount some here are quoting

there is a limited amount of quality mids (possibly) available. if you are going to [censored] around trying to save a few bucks you'll end of with nothing or more of the same

beams/sidebottom are quality with plenty of mileage left. the correct price is whatever it takes

even if we offer in the range of $750 we still have the room IIRC, with the front-loading of Mitch's deal and Davey qualifying for vets next year we're going to have room to move.

Wouldn't be surprising.

If thats the case we can't double cloke's wage but we could double beams and sidebottom's.

Don't agree Sidebottom is the better of the two by a fair way IMO and BEAMS is not better than Jones, would you pay that for Jones, if you paid these 2 Pies $5-600K each you could get a Caddy, Koby Stevens and another mid whilst keeping money the following season to target another kid maybe GWS who may want to come home maybe Toby Greene (who will be very good IMO) Dylan Shiel.

The Tigers actually did the right thing targetting fringe players they needed to fill the holes in their list whilst having in Cotchin, Martin, Grimes, Rance and other young players coming good . The players they targetted were not getting regular games at their own clubs They needed a running half back - Houli, a solid mid - Grigg and a Ruckman - Maric.

Whilst I am happy to target a quality mid lets not target someone who plays in a very good side and pay overs. We need a quality mid, a half back to break the lines and press by foot and a small forward thats were the money needs to go

I agree with you about the tigers but we are different as our midfield isn't set in stone for years to come. If Gysberts,Strauss and Blease were all firing then we could go after gap fillers as we would know who our main Mids would be for plenty of years. Bu we need some main men and they are not easy to come by so I say throw the cash at them.

I'd personally take 2 quality mids + Viney first

then a running half back

then a crumbing forward

So we sorta agree but I'd go the 2 mids first. We currently have the worst midfield in the league and it needs major major quality injection

Happy to pay upto approx 450k for right midfielders esp if they have lots of mileage

If we're going to make a trade, I'd rather go after Luke Shuey, Travis Boak or an unsigned Suns player.....

Trading For Beams or Sidebottom, we would have to give up to much. collingwood won't just give them to us, because we're going to pay more..... There's no go home factor when you live next door, it would be all about money.......

If we could get a good trading price from collingwood(win win), then I'd love to have Sidebottom.... But I don't think that would happen.... They will find away....

Would pay $450 for Sidey not sold on Beams but not saying he's a dud just think he is not worth big money would not be against Sidey, Caddy & Viney and seeing a fit Trenners and Gysberts in there and Jack Grimes given a lengthy run injury free in the middle will only improve

I'd rather contract gonorrhea than have the club recruit Dayne Beams.

Lets get Billy Slater from Melbourne Storm, he would dominate our sport, and he is the juice !

Perhaps we don't have to pay 'overs' to get Beams to the club - just add a full-time tattooist to the football department team.

In fact, at Queen's Birthday next year, you could line him up on Swan, and ink him up even further in the sheds at half time. That'd be sure to do Swan's head in - he wouldn't know what's going on.

Generally you only get a player to leave the club if he wants to go. To get a player that is in the clubs top 22 you need to pay well over and that doesn't always guarentee that they will leave. Mitch Clark wanted to go home to WA and had decided that he was going to leave Brisbane, we only snaffled him because he felt like he had already left Brisbane and the dollars made sense.

Houli and Maric left the bomber for Richmond because they were fringe players at the previous clubs adn wanted to be in the starting 18. Kennedy and McGlynn couldn't get games at the hawks so the swans offered them deals and said they would be in their 22.

So more likely to get a Swift or Koby Stevens, Kyle Remiers or a player who is struggling to get senior AFL action at his club to jump ship. Otherwise you haev to pay well over which is dangerous for team harmony. Plus would Beams be as good in Melbournes midfield as he is at the pies were he is shielded by Swan, Thomas, Pendulbury etc

UP IN LIGHTS by Whispering Jack

Those who watched the 2024 Marsh AFL National Championships closely this year would not be particularly surprised that Melbourne selected Victoria Country pair Harvey Langford and Xavier Lindsay on the first night of the AFL National Draft. The two left-footed midfielders are as different as chalk and cheese but they had similar impacts in their Coates Talent League teams and in the National Championships in 2024. Their interstate side was edged out at the very end of the tournament for tea
